Jude Bellingham could be sidelined until October following shoulder surgery

Real Madrid and England midfielder Jude Bellingham has undergone shoulder surgery.
It was reported in May that Bellingham would have surgery following this summer's Club World Cup and on Wednesday, Real confirmed the procedure had taken place to treat a recurring dislocation of his left shoulder.
The surgery is reportedly set to sideline him until October, but the Spanish club did not confirm any length of absence, saying only that Bellingham would now 'begin a period of rehabilitation prior to his return to recovery work'.

Real said the surgery had been performed by Drs Manuel Leyes and Andrew Wallace, under the supervision of Real Madrid Medical Services.
Bellingham is now set to miss the start of Real's LaLiga campaign and also England's World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia in September.
The 22-year-old and his Real team-mates came home empty-handed from the Club World Cup to round off a disappointing campaign where they finished runners-up to Barcelona in the league and fell to Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Carlo Ancelotti, who stood down as Real coach at the end of the regular season but before the Club World Cup, highlighted the issue with Bellingham's shoulder back in December 2023 and said at the time: 'The shoulder is very particular.
'If it happens again or keeps happening, maybe (he will need surgery), but we will see.'

Gregor Townsend hails Scotland for showing ‘true identity' in victory over Samoa

Seven different Scotland players scored tries as the tourists won 41-12 at Eden Park in Auckland. Scotland opened their tour with victory over the Maori All Blacks in New Zealand but were on the end of an ill-disciplined 29-14 defeat by Fiji in Suva last weekend. Rounding off the Skyscanner Pacific Tour with a win 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿#AsOne — Scottish Rugby (@Scotlandteam) July 18, 2025 That result was a major blow for Scotland's aspirations of breaking into the top seeds ahead of the World Cup draw in December, but Townsend's side reacted in the best way possible to finish the season on a high. 'It was hugely important,' Townsend said. 'You rise to a challenge and you show your true identity when you've got that challenge of backing up a defeat and the players showed that. 'The way they came together during the week with just a six-day turnaround and one training session, they were really aligned and focused on delivering a better performance and they did that.' Scotland quickly got on top through tries from Lions-bound Ewan Ashman and Rory Hutchinson in the opening 13 minutes and were always in control of the game. Arron Reed, Kyle Steyn, Grant Gilchrist, Kyle Rowe and George Turner all crossed with the Samoans grabbing two second-half tries of their own. Townsend said: 'We had to defend really well at the beginning of the game. I thought Samoa brought a lot from their attack. They were direct, they were physical and they moved the ball well to the wide channels. 'So that set us up really well for us to move the ball when we had it. I thought we were really clinical in the 22, through our forwards mainly, with the mall, but also the direct carrying. 'And then just some really good skills to score tries and give us that cushion going into half-time. 'That would be close to how well the team played against the Maori. This game was more physical. 'It's been a really enjoyable tour, so it's important we finish with a top performance.' Townsend hailed scrum-half Jamie Dobie, who was involved in the build-up to several tries, but was stopped just short of the line himself and delivered some important defensive interventions. Introducing Scotland cap #1236, Fin Richardson 🧢#AsOne — Scottish Rugby (@Scotlandteam) July 18, 2025 'Jamie was great,' he added. 'He was battling with cramp near the end, but for him to go from nine to wing and play equally as well…. 'I thought Gregor Brown was outstanding, came back from injury and then getting another injury in our first game on tour. Grant Gilchrist going 80 minutes again and Fin Richardson in his first cap, showing real energy. 'And it was really pleasing to see our scrum and our line-up maul being dominant. It's something we've spent a lot of time working on. The players have really worked hard and we have had our rewards in that area on this tour.'

Rangers get Champions League TV double billing for crunch Panathinaikos qualifier as broadcast details revealed

Russell Martin will take charge of Gers for the first time in a competitive sense for the first time next Tuesday Both legs of Rangers ' crucial Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos have been given a top TV billing. ‌ On Tuesday, July 22, Russell Martin will lead his team out at Ibrox in a competitive fixture for the first time when the Greeks are in town for the first leg of the second round clash. ‌ Eight days later, Gers will then travel to Athens for the return fixture at the Athens Olympic Stadium on Wednesday, July 30. ‌ The two teams will square off for the first time since the 2007/08 campaign, where Rangers edged out Panathinaikos over two legs in the round of 32 in the UEFA Cup on route to their final defeat to Zenit St Petersburg. Martin has strengthened his squad with seven new faces ahead of the game as he looks to guide the club into the revamped group stages of the Champions League for the first time since the 2021/22 season. And fans hoping to watch his new-look team in action will get the chance to see both games on TV. ‌ The first leg showdown has been picked up by Premier Sports, who will begin their coverage at 7.15pm on Tuesday, July 22 ahead of the 7.45pm kick-off. And eight days later, the second leg clash in the Greek capital will be broadcast on BBC Scotland, with the game kicking off at 7pm. ‌ Earlier on Friday, Rangers' squad for the two-legged tie was locked in, as per UEFA regulations. All of the new summer recruits have made the cut, including Norway international Thelo Aasgaard, despite the former Luton Town star picking up an injury in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Dunfermline earlier this week. Returning midfielder Kieran Dowell is included following his loan spell at Birmingham City in the second half of last season but fringe players Ben Davies, Rabbi Matondo, Jose Cifuentes, Ross McCausland and Robin Propper have all been left out with their immediate futures at Ibrox in serious doubt. ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers and Celtic pages, and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season. Newcastle and Tottenham left with major transfer dilemma as £71m deal struck

Brentford are set to lose Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United but their other top attacker Yoane Wissa has also attracted interest from Newcastle and Tottenham this summer Newcastle and Tottenham may have to abandon any plans to sign Yoane Wissa this summer now that Brentford and Manchester United have finally agreed terms for the transfer of Bryan Mbeumo. ‌ The Cameroon star, 25, has been the subject of interest from United, Newcastle and Spurs this summer after breaking the 20-goal barrier in the Premier League for the first time last season, though the player's preference has always been a move to Old Trafford. ‌ Talks over a transfer have dragged on for weeks with Brentford rebuffing two different bids for their star attacker. ‌ During that same period, both Newcastle and Tottenham have set their sights on prising Wissa away from the Bees instead of Mbeumo. But with Mbeumo now on his way to Manchester United in a deal which could reach £71m with add-ons, the chances of Wissa moving this summer would appear to be slim. Wissa chalked up 20 goals in all competitions last season for Brentford alongside Mbeumo to put the likes of Newcastle and Spurs on alert. ‌ But it's understood that Brentford will not entertain the idea of selling both of their top attackers in the same transfer window, meaning Wissa is now highly likely to stay put. That will come as a big blow to both of his suitors; Spurs are now managed by Thomas Frank, who had been keen to reunite with Mbeumo and then Wissa in north London. ‌ Join the debate! Will Mbeumo be a good signing for Man Utd? Let us know here Newcastle, on the other hand, have been exploring a deal for Wissa after walking away from negotiations with Eintracht Frankfurt over Hugo Ekitike, who is now expected to join Liverpool after agreeing personal terms with the newly minted Premier League champions. The Magpies, like Spurs, are in the market for attacking reinforcements after qualifying for the Champions League. They have bolstered their forward options with the capture of Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest: another club who have been courting Wissa. Brentford have already identified Omari Hutchinson of Ipswich Town as their primary target to replace Mbeumo. The Bees had a £35m offer for the former Arsenal and Chelsea attacker turned down earlier this week but are expected to return with a new offer.
