Parliamentary Tourism Committee Condemns Freezing of Patriarchate Accounts in Jerusalem - Jordan News

Jordan News9 hours ago
The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Tourism and Antiquities, MP Wasfi Haddad, who is also a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the coordinating member of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO), strongly condemned the Israeli occupation authorities' actions in freezing the bank accounts of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in occupied Jerusalem, describing the measures as dangerous and arbitrary. اضافة اعلان In a statement issued by the Committee on Sunday, Haddad said that this move is part of a systematic policy targeting the Palestinian people as a whole, and particularly the Christian community and the indigenous people of Jerusalem. He emphasized that these actions represent a blatant violation of religious freedom and an attack on church institutions, undermining their spiritual, humanitarian, and charitable roles, in clear violation of international norms and conventions. Haddad revealed his intention to address the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, which includes 25 member parliaments from around the world, to inform them about these violations and mobilize international parliamentary support to halt them. He called on the international community, including parliaments, churches, and human rights organizations, to take urgent action to protect Christian and Islamic holy sites and to preserve the historic and spiritual identity of Jerusalem.
He also reaffirmed his support for the official Jordanian position, as expressed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and government decisions, in confronting these violations. He noted that this reflects Jordan's unwavering commitment under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II to protect holy sites, preserve Jerusalem's identity, and support the Palestinian people's right to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

NBA star Kyrie Irving memorializes Gaza's youngest activist as his profile picture

NBA star Kyrie Irving drew attention to the ongoing violence in Gaza by changing his Instagram profile photo to honor Yaqeen Hammad, an 11-year-old Palestinian child who was killed in an 'Israeli' airstrike. Yaqeen, recognized as Gaza's youngest media activist, was killed on May 24, 2025, during an airstrike in the besieged enclave. Her work documenting daily life under the aggression had gained her recognition for raising awareness of the situation facing children in Gaza. Irving's advocacy for Palestine is not new. The NBA star has consistently used his visibility to address the conflict, often at the cost of facing criticism. Throughout his career, he has made symbolic gestures, such as wearing a keffiyeh, during games and post-game press conferences, as well as donning jewelry featuring the map of Palestine and a key, symbolizing the right of return for Palestinian refugees.

Netanyahu claims success in preventing Palestinian state "despite pressure"

During a visit to the West Bank settlement of Ofra to mark its 50th anniversary, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted that he has fulfilled his long-standing promise to block the establishment of a Palestinian state. Recalling a visit to the settlement 25 years ago, Netanyahu said, 'We would do everything to ensure our continued hold on the Land of Israel, to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state, to thwart the attempts that existed then, and unfortunately still exist, to try to uproot us from here. Thank God, what I promised, we kept.' Netanyahu emphasized the pressures 'Israel' faced over the years, noting, 'Pressures from home, pressures from abroad, a series of American presidents who wanted to uproot us and to establish a Palestinian state here. We stood firm together. We upheld the promise of the generations.'

Netanyahu: Ending the War Without Eliminating Hamas Strengthens Its Position - Jordan News

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that calls to end the war without eliminating Hamas only serve to strengthen the group's position, delay the release of hostages, and guarantee a repeat of the October 7 attacks. اضافة اعلان He emphasized that continued Israeli security control over the Gaza Strip remains one of Israel's key conditions for ending the war — a condition Hamas rejects. Netanyahu asserted that Israel is determined to disarm Hamas, and that it will achieve long-term disarmament of the Gaza Strip by acting against any attempts at rearmament. Netanyahu further noted that Hamas is demanding the opposite of Israel's conditions, calling for a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, including from the Philadelphi Corridor and the buffer zone.
