Zhang Zhehan Releases Third Physical Album Scavenger and Graces the Cover of Harper's Bazaar Vietnam for the First Time
Scavenger: A Bold Exploration of Diverse Musical Styles
As Zhang Zhehan's third solo album, Scavenger features eight carefully crafted tracks, five of which he co-wrote. Explaining the meaning behind the album's title, Zhang says, 'A scavenger is like someone quietly exploring on a lonely planet—bending down, head lowered, always remaining humble while searching for the unknown.' Musically, the album embodies a spirit of exploration and artistic ambition. From operatic vocals filled with theatrical intensity, sharp and rhythmic rap, to melodies inspired by travel and emotionally charged rock, Zhang continues to push his creative boundaries—offering a rich and varied listening experience.
Final Track WU: A Three-Part Philosophical Journey
The final track on the album, WU, was composed by Zhang Zhehan and written in a single night. The song is structured in three parts: the first, WU (fog), expresses a state of confusion and mystery; the second, WU (enlightenment), symbolizes an intense period of growth and self-realization; and the final part, WU (restraint), returns to calm, conveying a higher state of reason—one where discipline and tolerance lead to true inner freedom. Rather than just a song, WU feels like a meditative journey of introspection and philosophical insight.
First International Big-Five Fashion Cover: A Milestone in Cross-Cultural Appeal
Alongside his musical accomplishments, Zhang Zhehan is also making strides in the fashion world. His recent cover shoot for the Vietnamese edition of Harper ' s Bazaar Vietnam marks his first appearance on an international edition of one of the 'Big Five' fashion magazines—a milestone with special significance. The dual-cover spread showcases his distinctive fashion sensibility and expanding global influence. Upon release, the issue received enthusiastic praise and quickly surpassed 100,000 copies in sales, highlighting his strong appeal in the Southeast Asian market.
With the release of Scavenger, the success of the namesake concert, and his historic Harper ' s Bazaar Vietnam cover, Zhang Zhehan continues to chart new territory in both music and fashion—solidifying his status as a multifaceted artist with growing international influence.

I remember Gary Karr
For several years in the mid-2000s, I worked at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, where I managed a program for keen young musicians. I had met the virtuoso bassist Gary Karr earlier in my career. I doubted he would remember me, but knowing his dedication to music education I contacted him to ask if he and his partner, the pianist and harpsichordist Harmon Lewis, would host a musical evening for some of our students. Their generosity was beyond what I could have hoped for. The visit to Gary and Harmon's home in Saanich, B.C., became an annual event, eagerly anticipated by the students, and also their parents who competed for the opportunity to attend along with their kids. We brought the pizza, and we were given the run of the house: We were free to try out the harp that stood in the living room, admire the works of art on the walls, and discover their many academic certificates and awards that were given pride of place – hanging in the bathroom, above the toilet. I can vividly picture the grin on Gary's face when he invited us into the basement, donned his trainman's cap and treated us to a demonstration of his model railroad, complete with sound effects. And, of course, there was music, the highlight of the visit. Seated in their recording studio, we listened and watched as these two consummate artists showed us what the joy of making music was all about. I would venture that I am not the only one of those many visitors over the years to remember Gary Karr, and Harmon Lewis, with great fondness, admiration and gratitude. Jamie Syer, Bergen, Alta. ‘They're just true music fans': Red Farm Field Trip to bring the party to Cape Breton
The Red Farm Field Trip is bringing the party to Cape Breton this weekend. The Red Farm – a 400-acre property in Howie Centre, just outside of Sydney – is hosting its first major outdoor concert on Sunday, with a goal of channeling the feeling of Cape Breton field parties. The who's who of Maritime music will be on hand, including Gordie Sampson, Jody and Dylan Guthro, Morgan Toney, and an adopted East Coaster. 'Oh, I'm honoured. I'm honoured that you would even call me a, you know, a Maritimer or in any respect. I've been here six years now and, and love it,' said Bahamas. Bahamas, who now calls Nova Scotia home, is excited to share the stage with local friends like Sloane. 'Always love hanging out with them and just hearing them play and we kind of couldn't be more different musically, you know?' he said. 'I'm playing solo and, just playing my tender little love songs on my acoustic guitar, and then those guys can come out and really rock out and finish the show in a big way.' For Bahamas, playing for an East Coast crowd, especially in a setting like the Red Farm, is something special. 'Well, I feel like they're just true music fans, you know, in a place like Cape Breton,' he said. 'So, in my experience… what a nice place to be as a performer.' Bahamas is ready to bring his acoustic solo set to the field and is looking forward to connecting with the crowd in a big way. 'Just something about playing in that format really just sort of promotes like, campfire vibe, singalong vibe and also just like, it's a nice challenge for me as a performer to try and sort of present the material in this way and really feel like it kind of connects with people,' he said.

Justin Trudeau was all smiles at Katy Perry's Montreal concert
It was quite the second date. Just 48 hours after they had dinner at Montreal restaurant Le Violon, Justin Trudeau attended Katy Perry's triumphant Lifetimes Tour stop at the Bell Centre Wednesday night. And he appeared to be thoroughly enjoying himself. Article content Sporting a black Standfield's 'Strong & Free' T-shirt, Canada's former prime minister stood next to his daughter, Ella-Grace, as he took in the razzle-dazzle show, bopping his head and tapping the railing in front of him from a special section of the stands near the stage. Article content Article content Perry, for her part, gushed about Montreal — 'one of my favourite cities in all of Canada' — and the country Trudeau led for nearly a decade. Perhaps it was her way of flirting: She called our country 'super progressive,' adding that Canadians 'seem to be leading a change for humanity.' Article content The pop star was doing her part in that department, spreading messages of equality and women's empowerment throughout the evening. Article content 'I like her songs and her style; she's not exotic but extravagant, with a lot of energy,' said Ana, 14, who was there with her mother but was too shy to give her real name. Article content Sara-Maude, 31, called Perry 'a female icon.' The Mirabel native said she felt nostalgic coming out to see her idol from her teen years. Article content 'It brings up memories of our youth,' added her friend Lysanne, 33. Article content Encountered before the show, the pair was intrigued by Perry and Trudeau's potential romance. Article content ' Justin Trudeau has taste,' Sara-Maude said. Article content The women looked forward to hearing favourite songs including I Kissed a Girl, Roar, Fireworks and Dark Horse. They got all of the above and more as Perry powered through a two-hour, hit-filled set featuring songs from throughout her career. Article content It was a high-concept show with two dozen screens of various sizes cluttered above the stage. They projected an animated, sci-fi fantasy narrative staggered throughout the night that placed Perry at the centre of a hero quest to save the butterflies — and humanity — from devastation and the forces of evil. Article content The concert was divided into five acts, each bearing a title matching a song from her 2024 album 143 (the number is contemporary shorthand for 'I love you'). During the first segment, Artificial, she emerged from beneath the infinity-symbol-shaped catwalk in the middle of the arena, floating into the air as she sang. Article content 'Are you ready to dance tonight?' Perry asked the crowd, skipping about the stage in an outfit that could best be described as sexy cyborg. The song, Chained To the Rhythm off her 2017 album Witness, sparked a heartfelt singalong. She was backed by a four-piece band and a dynamic troupe of 10 male dancers, who were impressive from start to finish.
