President Sisi, Eritrean FM discuss African issues, Red Sea crisis
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Sunday with Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh
CAIRO - 23 March 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Sunday with Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh to discuss the Horn of Africa issues, as well as the crises of Red Sea and Sudan.
The meeting was held in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty, and Director of the General Intelligence Service Hassan Rashad.
The Official Spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency Mohamed El-Shenawy stated that the Eritrean foreign minister conveyed greetings from Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, which President El-Sisi valued.
The president underlined the strong relations between the two countries, and reiterated Egypt's commitment to further strengthen these ties across all sectors.
The official spokesperson added that the discussions focused on the situation in the Horn of Africa and strategies for promoting stability in the region. This includes both the joint efforts of Egypt and Eritrea, as well as the tripartite coordination with Somalia. In this context, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Somalia in its fight against terrorism and in safeguarding the unity and territorial integrity of the country.
The official spokesperson further explained that the meeting tackled the efforts to restore peace and stability in Sudan, protect the Red Sea, and enhance the governance and security cooperation among coastal states. Both sides rejected any involvement from non-coastal states in these matters.
In their meeting on March 22, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration Badr Abdelatty and his Eritrean counterpart Osman Saleh also expressed their rejection of any involvement of non-bordering countries in Red Sea security and governance.

'Without resolving the Palestinian cause, cycles of war will continue to hinder cooperation, scare away investment, and destabilize the region.' Egypt's Leadership and a Call for EU Action Highlighting Egypt's historic role in peacemaking and mediation, Abou El Enein praised Cairo's continuous efforts to restore calm in Gaza and support a long-term solution. He urged the European Union to translate its supportive statements into real, strategic action on the ground, starting with a clearer commitment to the two-state solution and the economic future of the South. 'While China arrives in Cairo with investment proposals and a clear plan, we need the same level of practical engagement from the EU,' he said, calling on Brussels to develop a roadmap that matches ambition with implementation. Economic Stability Requires Political Resolution Abou El Enein noted that political peace and economic prosperity go hand in hand. 'You cannot talk about energy projects, agriculture, or industry while bombs are falling in Gaza,' he said. 'Let us be honest—development is not possible in an environment dominated by conflict.' He emphasized that Egypt and its southern partners are ready for joint development, but international frameworks must prioritize justice and human dignity first. PAM's Role in Mediterranean Dialogue As President Emeritus of PAM, Abou El Enein reaffirmed the organization's full support for the new EU Pact for the Mediterranean and its active contribution to shaping the political and human rights dimensions of that framework. 'Our Charter for the Mediterranean, adopted in 2008, anticipated the same values being discussed today,' he said. He emphasized PAM's unique position as a non-governmental parliamentary platform with unmatched reach and trust across member states, committed to dialogue, peacebuilding, and concrete cooperation. Conclusion: From Words to Action In closing, Abou El Enein urged all stakeholders to move from consultation to commitment and to put the two-state solution back at the center of the Mediterranean partnership agenda. CAIRO, June 5 (MENA) – President Abdel Fattah El Sisi exchanged Eid al-Adha greetings with kings, presidents, and emirs of Arab and Islamic nations, the presidency said on Thursday. In his messages, Sisi extended heartfelt felicitations and warm wishes to his counterparts and their peoples, expressing hope that God would accept their prayers and grant continued stability, progress, and prosperity to their countries and to the Arab and Islamic nations. Sisi also sent his greetings to Egyptian Muslims abroad, conveyed through Egypt's embassies and consulates worldwide, wishing them a blessed and joyful Eid.
