Son Heung-min bids emotional farewell to Spurs fans after record MLS transfer
"Well, to all the Spurs fans. I mean, it's such a hard decision that I will leave the Spurs family," the forward said. "It was one of the hardest decisions I've ever made.
"And, as I said, there'll be no forever. And I gave [my] all. I know it sounds very surprising. I know it sounds very hard. And, because I gave my all, I feel like I need a new chapter."
He continued: "It was probably one of the hardest decisions I ever made so please don't be disappointed. I will be disappointed, not seeing you on the pitch," he continued. I will always be in your history books. And Spurs will always be in my heart and Spurs will always be in my family."
"And as a kid, you welcomed me and as I grew up I'm leaving you but there's always good timing. I always wanted to leave in a perfect way, [so] that people can think about me in very proud moments and very happy moments. This is the right time to say goodbye."
During Spurs' pre-season tour of his native South Korea, Son confirmed his time in North London was coming to an end. He had spent the last decade with the team, helping them win the Europa League at the end of last season.
His move to LAFC will see him reunited with former Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. The French international joined the MLS side in 2024 and has been their regular No.1 since moving across the Atlantic.
Son had just turned 23 when he joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015. He took a bit of time to establish himself, blowing hot and cold in his first season, but then hit 10 or more goals in the league for each of the following eight campaigns as he linked up with the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli.
He replaced Lloris as Spurs' captain in 2023, when Ange Postecoglou took over as manager. Those two seasons as skipper saw the team finish fifth to qualify for the Europa League and then win a European trophy, beating Manchester United in the final in May.
Son's Spurs exit comes as the club prepares for a first season under new manager Thomas Frank. They have already spent big in an effort to make up for the loss of a popular figure, with £55m Ghana star Mohammed Kudus among the new arrivals.

Drogheda and Waterford play out dreary scoreless draw
Drogheda United and Waterford played out a forgettable scoreless draw at Sullivan & Lambe Park, in one leg of a barren Premier Division evening. A point apiece does nothing to further both teams objectives in any meaningful way. United at least have extended their unbeaten league sequence to three games as they chase European qualification with just nine matches to play now. John Coleman's team are eight points clear of Sligo Rovers in ninth, having played a game more. But they are adrift of the teams hoping to maintain a top four push. This result changes little for them. After his goalscoring appearance off the bench at Dalymount Park last week, Josh Thomas was handed a first Drogheda start since February in attack while Shane Farrell replaced Luke Heeney in midfield. In attempting to end a run of four games without victory against the Drogs, Coleman made two changes for the Blues, with Kyle White and James Olayinka replacing the absent Darragh Leahy and Finlay Armstrong. Waterford's run of three straight victories was ended at Richmond Park last weekend and Drogheda were likely to provide another stern test for them, themselves on a three-match winning streak in all competitions. Back-to-back one-nil wins in the league had already re-energised their bid for European qualification in 2026 and this result keeps them very much in the conversation. They are level on point with second placed Derry City, in fact. At the 27-match mark, that is quite an achievement for this Drogheda team. They have improved to such an extent this season that this is a result that they will have expected to win. To take only a point will be disappointing. They might have shaded it and certainly had the better opportunities throughout the 90 minutes. Thomas Oluwa turned out for the Blues two years ago and almost proved had them beaten by the Boyne. In he first half, the pacy attacker left Jordan Rossiter floored in midfield before darting into the penalty area, only to see his shot deflected over by White. Oluwa went closer again in the second half, when he turned quickly to latch onto Conor Keeley's flick on. His shot hit the side netting on the near post side. Owen Lambe and Thomas also had sighters on goal while Waterford could count only tame enough long range efforts from Rossiter and Conan Noonan for their efforts. The latter at least forced a save from Luke Dennison, but it was simple really. Coleman did not make a change until the 86th minute and the Blues simply did not look likely to win it. A flurry of late corners gave Drogheda a chance, but the visitors saw it out. Cork City hold frustrated Derry City to scoreless draw
Derry City 0 Cork City 0 Derry City's recent Premier League shortcomings were laid bare at Brandywell Stadium on Friday evening as the Candy Stripes laboured to a point against relegation threatened Cork City. The Leesiders were good value for the draw, Ger Nash's men producing a superb defensive display which limited Tiernan Lynch's team to only a handful of half chances on a night which could cost Derry in the race for European football. You had to go back to November 2024, when Shelbourne's 1-0 victory secured the Premier Division title, for the last time Derry failed to score in a league match at the Brandywell. Indeed the Candy Stripes had beaten Cork in their last eight meetings between the teams but there was little sign of that superiority this time. Boos from the home support at the full-time whistle summed up the mood after a result which means Derry have taken only two points from the last 12, a run which has put a league challenge out of sight and left the Candy Stripes looking over their shoulder anxiously in the race for Europe. The Candy Stripes made two changes from the side who lost out to Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght, Gavin White and Hayden Cann coming in for recently signing Dip Akinyemi and the suspended Alex Bannon. Ger Nash, meanwhile, made one alteration to the Cork City side who defeated Galway to claim a massive three points last time out, Freddie Anderson named in place of Rio Shipston. Derry's previous home fixture against Bohemians was marred by trouble off the field but their hosts' trouble this was time on the pitch as they struggled to create a chance of note against the bottom of the table Leesiders. The home side saw plenty of the ball but neither keeper was stretched in a first half of little goalmouth action. Seani Maguire sent a shot well over with one of Cork's few foray's into the home half while Sadou Diallo and Michael Duffy were similarly wayward for Europe chasing Derry. Derry did have half hearted penalty appeals waved away 20 minutes in when Adam O'Reilly went down as he tried to go past Cork's Matthew Kiernan, while a Liam Boyce header and Duffy's low shot did eventually bring Conor Brann in action but few inside Brandywell were surprised when the half-time whistle sounded with both clean sheets still intact. A delightful piece of Duffy skill out under the Southend Park stand did briefly rouse the home support upon the restart but there was no immediate second half improvement from either side, though Cork's threat on the break was growing. Lynch's response was the 54th minute introduction of summer signing Dip Akinyemi, with Danny Mullen and Ben Doherty, making only his 11th appearance of an injury ravaged season, following from the bench soon after. But little changed in terms of the home side's frustrations. Doherty fired one effort over the bar but, if anything Cork, with only three league wins to their credit all season prior to kick-off, were looking the more likely on the counter as Derry struggled to make any inroads against a well organised, disciplined visiting rearguard. More than six minutes of injury time offered brief hope but the home fans reaction on the whistle told you everything about a match that won't live long in the memory.
