KEITH ROSSITER will return as Wexford senior hurling manager at the next county board meeting. The Oulart-the-Ballagh clubman will be afforded a third season in charge, but has yet to name his management team. While Rossiter had an impressive start during his first year, his second in charge ended in bitter disappointment as the team nosedived both in league and championship. Wexford were relegated from Division 1A of the Allianz National Hurling League, but their championship exploits were even more disappointing, with the side failing to qualify for the provincial final, while also missing out on the All-Ireland series. Rossiter will no doubt be tasked with returning the side to Division 1A hurling, but it's not yet known if any further players will follow Matthew O'Hanlon, Dee O'Keeffe and Liam Óg McGovern into retirement. A boost for Rossiter is that the injury-hit Liam Ryan has returned to club hurling, figuring prominently with Rapparees in the senior hurling championship, having missed this year's inter-county campaign through injury and health reasons, while also missing out on much of the 2024 campaign. Meanwhile, John Hegarty is returning for a fourth year in charge of the county's senior footballers. Wexford achieved their long-sought-after promotion to Division 3 of the Allianz League, with the Kilanerin clubman hoping to build on that progress and improve their championship showing. Both managers' nominations were approved at Monday night's meeting of the county management committee and will be brought before the county board for ratification. Ronan Joyce (Shelmaliers) and Dylan Gregan (Castletown) have both been returned as Under-20 hurling and U20 football managers.

Meanwhile in other hurling news, Tommy Walsh's involvement with Kilkenny in 2026 is in doubt after he suffered a suspected anterior cruciate knee ligament injury. The Tullaroan man, 27, was forced off in the first half of last weekend's win over Clara. Walsh, who made his senior debut for the Cats in 2019, started in four of their seven Championship matches this year. The six-time Leinster SHC winner now looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, though the defender can take inspiration from Nickie Quaid. Limerick keeper Quaid sustained a similar injury last November, only to return in time for their Munster opener in April.

Hurling for Cancer Research star studded line ups unveiled for charity game
The star-studded teams for Jim Bolger and Davy Russell's annual 'Hurling for Cancer Research' game have been unveiled. Top hurlers, including TJ Reid, Patrick Horgan, Lee Chin, Noel McGrath, Jake Morris and Darragh McCarthy, will take part in the fundraiser, which has raised €1.66 million to date over 14 years. The charity game, which takes place at Netwatch Cullen Park next Monday, August 18 (7.30pm), will be aired live on TG4 and is sponsored by Centra. An array of stars from the world of racing and other sports will also take part, including Niall Quinn and Rachel Blackmore. Jim Bolger's All Stars will be managed by John Kiely and Liam Griffin, assisted by Larry O'Gorman with Davy Russell's Best coached by Brian Cody and All-Ireland winner Tipperary boss, Liam Cahill. Among the glittering list of stars stepping up to act as selectors, commentators, side-line officials, umpires and maor uisce are Paudie Clifford, Marty Morrissey, Anthony Daly, Willie Mullins, Bernard Dunne and Paul Townend. Also featuring on the night are Ursula Jacob, David Gough, Barry Geraghty, Danny Mullins, Michael Duignan, Paul Nolan, Willie McCreery, Jarlath Regan, Cyril Farrell, Jimmy Barry Murphy, Dickie Murphy, Colm O'Rourke, Kevin Manning and Colin Keane. Gates open at 5pm with pre-match entertainment and refreshments before throw-in at 7:30pm. Free car parking is available at Netwatch Cullen Park. Tickets are available from selected Centra and SuperValu GAA ticket agent stores, as well as online at (€10 for adults, €5 for children). Hurling for Cancer Research kits are available from Cúl Sliotars for just €50 with 10percent going to the charity.
