Man splurges £600 on National Lottery Scratchcards and winnings floor him
Many punters occasionally dabble with a Scratchcard in hopes of a quick fortune, fully aware that the odds of winning big - or at all - are down to pure chance. One TikTok user, jax4154, recently took a gamble by splurging £600 on National Lottery Scratchcards to test his luck.
After an intense session of scratching, he shared the outcome of his venture, and it's safe to say the results left him utterly astonished. In his video, he confessed to having conducted similar experiments before, but decided to give it another go to check for any possible differences.
This kind of challenge isn't new. Previously, one person even purchased every Scratchcard available during a Ryanair flight to see what fortunes might unfold.
He explained his process in the video, stating: "I'm about to scratch 120 Millionaire Maker Scratchards. Why do I do this? So you don't have to.
"This particular Scratchcard I've bought, once I've scratched all of these, this will be number 700 in this series of Scratchcards I've bought, and the biggest win has been £100."
While acknowledging that there are stories of people landing hefty prizes, he expressed scepticism about the likelihood of such wins. His "scratch off" was intended as a demonstration to show the harsh reality behind the allure of Scratchcards.
After revealing the results of his Scratchcard experiment, he highlighted the stark contrast between his "loser pile" and "winner pile". He ended up with a total return of £385 from an initial outlay of £600, with his largest single win being £50.
His aim was to demonstrate the potential losses involved in playing Scratchcards. He firmly believes that people should "keep away" from Scratchcards due to the high risk of losing significant sums of money.
This is the reason he conducts these experiments periodically. Since uploading the video, it has attracted dozens of views and prompted comments from viewers.
One viewer commented: "Well done. It's a mug's game."
Another added their insight, adding: "Scratchcards win ratio is about one in four. If you take away wins where you just get the Scratchcard cost back (like £5 win on £5 card), it drops to one in 20."
It's estimated that the chances of winning on a £5 Scratchcard are roughly one in four, which includes cards that simply earn back their purchase price.

Magdala, @magdalanyc2, shared a video on TikTok about her experience taking her camera through airport security. Sadly, it ended up with the 39 photos she captured ruined by the machine. She captioned the clip: 'PSA airport security x-rays destroy film even in little s**t disposable cameras and you lose everything (39 grained moments but ones you can't get back).' The TikToker revealed in a comment that her carry-on luggage went through the security machine three times. Others commented to share their experiences, while some shared advice. One TikTok user shared a tip to help others avoid getting their film ruined. They said: 'You can ask them to check it manually!! (They know the drill so they agree most of the time).' 'Oh, guess I shouldn't even bother developing my pictures from my last trip then,' one dismayed viewer said, followed by a crying emoji. But Magdala replied with some positive news. It comes as someone else revealed passengers should look out for a 'growing' luggage tag scam as they make their way through airports. An airport worker, who claimed to be a baggage claims manager for American airline company Delta, warned about the new trick on Reddit. 'I just wanted to let everyone know to please start discarding your bag tags at home,' they urged in a post on the forum website. They alleged people were using tags thrown away in the airport to make 'fraudulent claims' with the information on them.
