East India Dock flies home for Chester Cup honours
It was Ryan Moore who set the fractions aboard Joseph O'Brien's Leinster and when the leading jockey allowed his mount to stride on passing the five-furlong marker on the second circuit, the four-year-old appeared full of running.
The field swarmed rounding the home turn with George Scott's progressive Caballo De Mar laying down a stern challenge and hitting the front a furlong out, but East India Dock was staying on with every stride as the 9-4 favourite turned Cheltenham Festival disappointment into Roodee delight.

Owen's charge returned a length verdict over Caballo De Mar, with defending champion and Davies' old favourite Zoffee an honourable third, and the winning trainer was delighted to see a plan come together for his owners.
He said: 'He travelled lovely and hit his flat spot like he usually does but he stayed on well.
'Tim and Mr (Bill) Gredley had this plan and it's great that we have pulled it off. There are some big pots on the Flat and he's a lovely dual-purpose horse now.
'To win the Chester Cup is fantastic, we've hit the crossbar a few times coming here, but it's nice to have a winner here and we've won the big one.'
Davies told Sky Sports Racing: 'I'm very lucky to get the rides in this race I have and every time I have ridden in it I don't think I've had a bad ride.

'He got a good draw which always helps round here and he jumped good, I was able to hold my pitch and then he was gutsy. He stays well and had the perfect profile coming into the race.
'He loved that dead ground and while everything else was sort of half struggling, he just cruised on through – what a tough horse and I'm delighted for connections.
'He's a strong traveller and when horses have run over hurdles they learn how to relax better and in a race like this where you have to really rev them to hold their pitch, if they can then relax and drop the bridle there is nothing better.
'James has been very supportive of me and the Gredley Family have also been happy for me to ride their horses and I was delighted when I got the ride on this fella.'

The former Ospreys and Dragons back has been tearing it up for Grenoble in the second tier of French rugby for the last two seasons, playing what he admits has been the best rugby of his career to date, and leading his team them to successive Pro D2 play-off finals. However, while his fine form has seen him win the adoration of fans and be crowned the league's best player in his first season at the club, it has not earned Davies an international recall, with the 30-year-old yet to add to his tally of eight Wales caps, the last of which he won in 2017. But with the starting fly-half position yet to be nailed down within the Wales squad, Davies has made his intentions clear to Tandy with a one-word message on social media. Article continues below While he falls short of the required 25 caps, Davies has previously claimed that he is still eligible to represent Wales due to a loophole in the controversial law. "I think I am allowed really because the rule around whether you get an offer from a region or a fair one is related to the cap rule," he told the RosbifsRugby podcast. "There's an argument to say I never got a fair offer and before this contract I've just signed, a couple of Welsh clubs were trying to talk to me but I didn't even entertain it so there were no offers." Speaking to The Times earlier this year, the playmaker again admitted that he didn't know why he wouldn't be eligible to play for Wales and, while he claimed the "time has gone now", he refused to rule out a return to the international stage. 'It's difficult because representing your country is something that, as a kid, is your dream — that's your ultimate goal," he said. "I achieved that and it wasn't to the level I wanted to get to. I thought I could have, and maybe should have, played for Wales more. But that time has gone now. 'It's not to say that it may never happen again because I don't know what the rules are. I don't think anyone knows what the rules are. I haven't been offered a contract in Wales so I don't know why I'm not eligible to play for Wales." Springboks hit by new hammer blow Things have gone from bad to worse for the Springboks after their shock Rugby Championship defeat to Australia, with talismanic captain Siya Kolisi ruled out for the next four weeks with injury. The 34-year-old got on the scoresheet for his side in their 22-38 loss to the Wallabies on Saturday, before leaving the field in the 45th minute. It has now been confirmed that he suffered a knee injury which will keep him out of action for the next month. As a result, Kolisi will miss this weekend's second clash with Australia in Cape Town, while he is also a major doubt for the double header against New Zealand in September. Confirming the news in a press conference on Monday, South Africa head coach Rassie Erasmus revealed that Jesse Kriel would take over the captaincy from Kolisi this weekend. 'It's a grade two knee," said Erasmus as he gave an update on the back rower's injury status. "Some guys recover in four weeks, and some in six weeks. Coach lands new job after Wales links Former Northampton Saints scrum coach Matt Ferguson has joined Harlequins as their new lead rugby transition coach, months after being linked with taking a role in the Wales set-up. In January, Ferguson announced he would be leaving Northampton at the start of the season, having won the Premiership title and reached the European Champions Cup final with the club in his final two seasons at Franklin Gardens. It was a pleasure to take part in the Mic Morris Torfaen 10k again
It was a pleasure to run alongside a thousand other runners again this year, despite a rather warm day adding to the physical challenge! So many of my fellow runners told me how much they enjoyed the beautiful route down our valley, starting in my hometown of Blaenavon and finishing in wonderful Pontypool Park. A huge thank you to the organisers, volunteers and everyone who lined the route and cheered us on. The encouragement always gives runners some extra determination to keep going. It's been good to see other events in Pontypool Park this summer too, and I look forward to the cycling Tour of Britain starting in the park and finishing above Blaenavon on September 6. It's a huge honour to have the premier professional cycling race in Britain come to Torfaen. I look forward to welcoming cycling fans and to helping promote our area. It's also a chance for us to say a local thank you to Welsh legend Geraint Thomas, who'll be riding his last race before retiring after a long and hugely successful career. In an earlier Argus column, I committed to organising an apprenticeship fair in Torfaen, and was delighted to deliver this alongside employers, schools and training providers. Thank you to Coleg Gwent for hosting the fair, to the organisations who attended and to the local high schools who turned up with pupils. Pupils spoke to more than 20 employers and training providers about opportunities, including Torfaen companies like Pro Steel Engineering and GOS Tool and Engineering Services. Apprenticeships provide valuable skills and build the foundations of successful careers, yet sometimes young people don't know what the options are for them. I hope I can repeat and build on this successful event next year. I was delighted to hear from Huw Irranca-Davies that Welsh Government are putting aside £5 million to help safeguard our historic canal. I want to pay tribute to local groups like Bridge 46 to Five Locks, who've campaigned so hard alongside the Canal and River Trust, Lynne Neagle MS, Torfaen councillors and myself to try to resolve the water supply issues. Hopefully now we can secure a sustainable future for the canal. Local groups like Bridge 46 to Five Locks are taking massive strides to help improve the Mon and Brec, volunteering and lobbying to promote the importance of the canal. What strikes me is how many different people use the canal and towpath for so many activities, from boating to paddleboarding to walking dogs, keeping fit by running or walking or just getting outside to enjoy their local environment. Long may it continue. I was pleased to visit local business Wiltan this week. It is a leading manufacturer and supplier of strip wound cores in electrical steels and cut laminations, and sells its products across international markets. Like many Torfaen businesses, it has a great reputation for what it does. It was good to talk with the business about how we can support it to export. As local MP I'm always keen to help Torfaen firms unlock their potential to bring jobs and investment to our community, so if you would like to explore the export support services provided by the UK government, please do get in touch. Wales rugby icon Jonathan "Jiffy" Davies was accompanied by hundreds of cyclists all coming together to raise money for charity as part of Jiffy's Cancer 50 Challenge 2025. Today - Sunday, August 17 - over 300 riders joined to cycle 50 miles from Cardiff City Stadium in Cardiff to Bracelet Bay in Swansea, raising over £40,000 for Velindre Cancer Charity and Swansea Bay Health Charity. Jiffy has been raising money for Velindre since 2007. He was named president of the charity two years later. The annual charity ride took place for the fifth time this year, led by the famous Welsh sportsman. This year the challenge was harder for the pundit after he had two operations over the past year. Leading up to the challenge he said: "I've had two operations leading up to it but I'm back on the bike now. I had a knee replacement last September and I had a cage put in my back last December. "The operations went well. "I want to help everyone that's had cancer and I want to help their families who are going through it. "It's a horrible place to be in but hopefully one day all the cancer charities all over the country and the world really if we can find a cure for it that would be the most amazing thing.
