Over $30-million in fines and a three-game suspension for head coach Sherrone Moore were the main highlights from the ruling. Andy Staples and Steven Godfrey join Ross in recapping the reaction to the ruling and discussing where Michigan goes from here. Expanding the College Football Playoff has been a talking point since the format's inception. It has grown from four to twelve teams, but that does not seem to be enough to some in college football. While sixteen seems to be a natural progression, a much larger number was suggested recently. Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti threw out the idea of a 28-team playoff and sent the college football world into an uproar. Was this suggestion just a ruse for a more preferable plan? Why was this the only playoff idea that was reported on? How realistic is a 28-team playoff? The guys answer all of these questions and more as they look toward the future of the College Football Playoff. Later in the show, they discuss Virginia Tech's athletic director, Whit Babcock, and his presentation to the university's Board explaining where college football is headed and his pressing need for more funding. What might a super league look like in the college football landscape and how close are we to its arrival? Is the constant desire for change and money ruining the sport for the fans? Andy, Ross and Steven explain the crossroads college football is at after Babcock's comments. Finally, there was a recent change in the FPI over the weekend. Broncos predicted to get off to hot start but who gives them their first loss? originally appeared on The Sporting News The Denver Broncos are a team many see as one of the better teams in the AFC this coming season, and the schedule set up nicely for them in the first month, with the Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts to start the season. Ali Bhanpuri and Adam Rank, two analysts over at recently made game-by-game picks for each team in the league. Broncos Country will love the thoughts of each of them. Bhanpuri has the Broncos finishing 11-6 on the season and becoming the AFC's top wild card. Rank does him one better, putting the Broncos at 12-5, winning the AFC West, and becoming the No. 2 seed in the AFC. Looking at things from a different perspective, John Breech of CBS Sports decided to predict when each team would lose its first game of the season. Breech has the Broncos getting off to a 3-0 start with wins over the Titans, Colts and on the road over the Los Angeles Chargers. But he suggests that the team will come back home in Week 4 and suffer its first loss at the hands of the Cincinnati Bengals. "This might end up being the best game of Week 4. These two teams gave us a shootout last season and it won't be surprising if we get another one with the Bengals pulling off the road upset", wrote Breech. The Broncos and Bengals played in one of the best games of the 2024 season, going shot for shot with major playoff implications on the line. The Bengals won the game 30-24 in overtime, dealing a blow to the Broncos' playoff hopes while significantly helping their own. While the Broncos were the team that took the last playoff spot, many fans felt that the Bengals should have been there instead. The Broncos will still have that loss fresh in their minds for this one and will be seeking a measure of revenge. The Broncos improved on both sides of the ball and could have one of the league's best defenses, so they should have the advantage in this game. Betts staying at shortstop despite Dodgers' outfield struggles
DENVER (AP) — Mookie Betts has played strong defense in his first full season as a shortstop, but the recent outfield play for the Los Angeles Dodgers has manager Dave Roberts fielding questions about whether the 2018 AL MVP would be more valuable to the team in right field. Outfield defense has been a problem for Los Angeles, and Roberts called out Teoscar Hernández's play in right after Monday night's 4-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies. Hernández failed to catch Ezequiel Tovar's high popup that landed for a double in the ninth inning, and Tovar scored the winning run two pitches later. But Roberts isn't ready to move Betts from shortstop, where he has played all but one inning this season. Betts entered Tuesday night with a .984 fielding percentage and has committed just six errors in 376 chances. 'There's got to be an alternative, right?' Roberts said before Tuesday night's game against Colorado. 'And I think right now, the way Mookie's playing at short, not bouncing him around, I think we feel very good about it.' Betts met with Roberts after Monday night's loss but the manager said it was just to check in. 'Mookie pops in my office all the time and we were just talking about his swing,' Roberts said. 'I wanted him to check in with me about where he's at, certain checkpoints as we go through the season, and that was a check-in.' The Dodgers have options in the outfield, but Michael Conforto has struggled at the plate and Tommy Edman, Kiké Hernández and Hyeseong Kim are on the injured list. Edman and Hernández can play infield and outfield, which would strengthen the defense. Teoscar Hernández, despite his recent offensive struggles, is a stronger option with the bat than Conforto. The slugger had an RBI double in the first inning Tuesday night that gave the Dodgers a 2-0 lead. 'Given everything that we were going through, we've gone through, we're still finding ways to win a lot of ballgames,' Roberts said. 'Just in totality, we can all do a better job, all of us.
