Espionage case: Naumen Elahi sent to judicial custody

Chandigarh: Investigations revealed that Naumen Elahi, a native of Kairana from Uttar Pradesh, was in touch with Indian-origin Pakistan-based ISI operative Iqbal Kana and used to share secret information with him during
Operation Sindoor
.
Naumen was the first to be arrested by Haryana police from Panipat on May 13, and he was lodged in the custody of the CIA staff and special cell of Panipat. On Saturday, he was produced before the duty magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody.
In his mid-20s, Naumen worked as a security guard in a private factory in Panipat. He travelled to Pakistan in 2017. Since then, he was under the lens of central intelligence agencies.
Referring to the investigation and interrogations, sources in the police revealed that Naumen was one of the recruits of Iqbal Kana, who also had roots in Kairana, a bordering district of Pakistan.
Kana escaped from India to Pakistan nearly three decades ago after his name cropped up in the supply of weapons to antisocial and anti-national elements in a case that was being probed by the special cell of Delhi police. Delhi Police recovered over 290 firearms from their group.
Police said Naumen admitted to being in touch with Iqbal Kana and shared vital information related to vital installations and the position of various agencies.
Agencies claimed to have recovered six passports from his possession in Kairana. Besides this, police also seized incriminating documents confirming his links with handlers across the border. Three of the seized passports were his own, his mother's, and his sister's, and the remaining three were of a Panipat-based family.
"As police and central agencies have completed the questioning and recoveries have been made, he was no longer required for interrogation. So, the investigating officer opted for his judicial custody," an official privy to the development said.
Notably, now only two accused, including a woman YouTuber, are in the custody of Haryana police. Since May 13, Haryana police arrested five persons, including YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, on charges of spying and espionage during Operation Sindoor. Besides Jyoti, Tareef of Nuh is the second accused who is in police custody in Mewat. Tareef will be produced in court on Sunday as his period of police custody ends on the day.

Punjab: Projectile linked to Op Sindoor found in Jalandhar village
A piece of a foreign projectile was discovered abandoned in the agricultural fields of Jamalpur village in Jalandhar. The piece believed to be part of a missile fired by Pakistan during the recent tensions between India and its neighbouring country in May, was found by a farmer after harvesting his maize crop on Sunday evening. Local police, along with army personnel, rushed to the site and seized the broken projectile. Bhogpur station house officer Ravinder Pal said that the remnant appears to be from a missile neutralised by the Indian armed forces during Operation Sindoor in May. The army has taken the projectile piece for further investigation.

After landing on Tuesday, he posted on his X handle that during his meetings with leaders, he will emphasise the Global South priorities. 'Landed in Calgary, Canada, to take part in the G7 Summit. Will be meeting various leaders at the Summit and sharing my thoughts on important global issues. Will also be emphasising the priorities of the Global South,' PM Modi posted on his X handle. He arrived in Calgary to participate in the G7 Summit at the invitation of Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney. On arrival, he was received by Acting Indian High Commissioner Chinmoy Naik, Canadian officials, and leaders of Canada's First Nation, the native people of the country. He will go to the picturesque resort town of Kananaskis, where the summit started earlier on Monday under tight security, and will feature him and other invitees at Tuesday's session. PM Modi arrived in Canada after a successful visit to Cyprus, where he had "wide-ranging talks, covering the full range of India-Cyprus relations" with President Nikos Christodoulides. Before leaving India, PM Modi posted on X that the G7 summit "will give a great platform to exchange perspectives on various global issues and elaborate on the priorities of the Global South". He will be interacting with G7 leaders, President Emmanuel Macron of France, Prime Ministers Keir Starmer of Britain, Giorgia Meloni of Italy, Shigeru Ishiba of Japan, Chancellor Friedrich Merz of Germany, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa along with host Carney, who is also the President of G7. PM Modi will not be meeting US President Donald Trump, who was cutting short his presence at the summit to return home to deal with the Iran-Israel crisis. Other invitees to the G7 meeting are Presidents Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine, Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil, and Lee Jae-Myung of South Korea, and Prime Ministers Anthony Albanese of Australia and Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa. This will be an opportunity for PM Modi to have face-to-face meetings with these powerful leaders of industrialised countries after the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack and Operation Sindoor targeting terrorist outfits operating in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. PM Modi's visit also comes at a pivotal moment for India-Canada relations, which Carney is trying to reset after it had been marred by former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who was influenced by Khalistan supporters.
