
Nurse dies by suicide in hostel in Cuttack
CUTTACK: A 25-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide in a private working women's hostel at Charigharia in Jobra on Thursday night. The deceased, identified as Kalpana Das of Balasore, was working as a nurse at a private hospital in Jobra since the last two months. She was found hanging inside the bathroom of her hostel.
According to the police, Kalpana was with her roommates till around 9.45 pm, following which she went inside the bathroom. However, when she didn't return for over an hour and didn't respond to knocks and calls, the inmates broke open the bathroom door and found her hanging. After checking her pulse, they found that she had died.
Upon being informed, Malgodown police arrived at the scene, seized the body, and sent it to SCB medical college and hospital for postmortem. 'According to her inmates, Kalpana was neither mentally distressed nor overburdened with work. She also didn't have any enmity. Further investigation is on,' police said.

UP man kills himself on Bakrid as an offering to God
LUCKNOW: In a tragic incident, a Muslim man from Udhopur village in Deoria district of eastern UP allegedly died by suicide claiming he was offering himself as a sacrifice to the Almighty. The victim identified as Ish Mohammad, 60, reportedly slit his throat with a knife on the occasion of Bakrid on Saturday. He also mentioned the exact location where he wished to be buried. Ish Mohammad is survived by his wife and three sons. While two of his sons live with the family in Udhopur, the youngest is employed at a hotel in Mumbai. Ex-bank manager among 4 convicted for giving loans to fake SHGs
1 2 Madurai: The second additional district court (CBI cases) in Madurai on Thursday convicted four people including a former senior manager of Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) in Trichy district for sanctioning loans to fictitious self help groups (SHGs) without following proper procedures. It caused a loss of 3.38 crore to the bank. The first accused, B Ravichandran, was working as a senior manager in IOB, Chinthamani branch in Trichy district. Rajaram and Usha were office-bearers, and Kalpana and Lavanya were workers at an NGO called Kurinji Social Welfare Society in Trichy. The prosecution said Ravichandran conspired with the other accused and created fictitious SHGs with fictitious people as members and opened savings bank accounts in the name of groups. The SHGs availed loans ranging from 4.25 lakh to 5 lakh between June 2012 and March 2013. Ravichandran, without verifing the genuineness of the papers, and granted loans to 73 'SHGs' sponsored by Kurinji Social Welfare Society through Rajaram and Kalpana, thereby causing a wrongful loss of 3.38 crore for the bank.
