PTI
Last Updated:
Portrush (Northern Ireland), Jul 20 (PTI) Indian American golfer Akshay Bhatia shot a 1-under 70 in the third round to be Tied 34th at the British Open here.
Bhatia had two birdies on the seventh and the ninth and seemed to be ready to get more before two bogeys on the back nine.
Indo-British Aaron Rai, who had shown a lot of promise in the first eight holes on the first day, seemed to have lost that momentum. He shot even par 71 and was 18 places down on his second round to be T-44.
Sahith Theegala had missed the cut.
Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler continued his dominant performance with a bogey-free 4-under 67 that included an eagle and two birdies as he moved to 14-under and four clear of the field. PTI COR APA APA

Brook says on-field tensions with India have worked in England's favour
Manchester, Jul 21 (PTI) England batter Harry Brook believes that the on-field tensions with the Indian players in the ongoing Test series has helped his team more than the opposition. The Indian players were all over England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett towards close of play on day three at Lord's. The bowler in operation at that time, Jasprit Bumrah sarcastically clapped at Crawley who employed the delaying tactic just before stumps. Will there be more tension in the remaining two games? 'I've had a lot of compliments. Everybody said it was awesome to watch and it looked like there was 11 versus two when we were fielding. It was good fun, I have to admit, it was tiring but it made fielding a lot more enjoyable," said Brook on Monday ahead of the Manchester Test. Brook, however, insisted that the lines won't be crossed. 'Yeah, absolutely. We try to play in the spirit of the game as much as possible. Those lads went hard at Creeps and Ducky on that night when Bumrah bowled that single over. We watched that, we reassessed and we thought it was the right time to go back at them." That specific needling by India in the third Test at Lord's worked in England's favour, said Brook. 'Yeah, I think it put them under a little bit more pressure. Chasing a low score but on a tough pitch, it might have given them a little bit of added pressure and thankfully they ended up crumbling and we won the game," he said referring to the 22-run win at Lord's as India failed to chase 193 on a tricky pitch. Brook said he has been receiving messages on the highly competitive nature of the series which England lead 2-1 after three games which lasted five days. 'Every game we've played so far has gone into the last hour of the game, which you do not see very often. I've had a lot of people come up to me saying 'it's been an amazing series, thank you'. 'Everybody said that the Lord's game was one of the best games that they've watched, so it's been an amazing series and I'm looking forward to the rest of it. 11 v two on the pitch, that's how you get brought up to try and play cricket is work as a team, try and figure out how we're going to get them out. 'You don't always have to be nice. As we saw last week, we tried to create a bit of niggle. Who knows, that might have played into our favour or we just bowled well," said Brook. The destructive batter said it has been satisfying to win matches in different circumstances. 'We saw them set a ridiculous total for us at Edgbaston. They obviously were a little bit scared of setting us a total that we could potentially get. That played into our favour and gave us a lot of confidence as well going into other games going forward," he said. 'Chasing that total at Headingley was an unbelievable win as well. And then obviously the fight, the determination we showed to get that last wicket and the skills and patience that Stokesy showed as well throughout that period, where we couldn't quite find the wicket, was awesome to watch. I'm sure it kept everybody on the edge of their seats," Brook added. Will India Play Kuldeep Yadav In Manchester? Siraj Answers: 'I Literally...'
Last Updated: Mohammed Siraj addressed a pre-match press conference in Manchester where he was asked about the team combination for the upcoming Test. India are gearing up for the all-important fourth Test against England, set to begin on Wednesday at Old Trafford in Manchester. Trailing 1-2 in the five-match series, the visitors are desperate to bounce back and avoid yet another series defeat on English soil. However, their task has been made tougher by a string of injuries. On Monday, the BCCI confirmed that all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the remainder of the tour after sustaining a knee injury during a gym session. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has been sidelined for the fourth Test due to a cut on his bowling arm. Fast bowler Akash Deep continues to nurse a groin niggle, and his availability remains uncertain. To reinforce the pace attack, the team has called up uncapped Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj as a backup. Despite the addition, India still face a selection conundrum as they search for the right balance in the bowling unit. Meanwhile, on Monday, Mohammed Siraj addressed a pre-match press conference in Manchester. When asked about the team combination for the upcoming Test, Siraj remained tight-lipped, stating that he was unaware of the final decision. The pacer was asked if the team is looking to bring in Kuldeep Yadav or would try the combination it tried in the first game in Leeds. In reply, Siraj said, Siraj is the only Indian fast bowler to have played all three Tests so far in the series. If his form and fitness permit, he looks set to continue that streak and potentially feature in all five matches. The 31-year-old has shouldered a significant workload, bowling 109 overs so far — the most by any Indian pacer in the series. By comparison, Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the second Test as part of workload management, has bowled 86.4 overs. Prasidh Krishna has delivered 62 overs in his two appearances, while Akash Deep has bowled 72.1 overs across two matches. 'Thank God, I have been fit and healthy so far. Yes, there is workload to be considered as per science, and if you go by the book, the number of overs I've bowled would be right there," said Siraj, who has claimed 13 wickets in the series, including a six-wicket haul at Edgbaston. 'Having said that, my mindset is to make the best use of the opportunity and win games for India," he concluded. view comments First Published: July 21, 2025, 21:15 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Toss-up between Kamboj and Prasidh as Akash Deep all but ruled out
Manchester, Jul 21 (PTI) Soon after gently rolling his arm over in the field of play, Akash Deep cut a forlorn figure as uncapped Anshul Kamboj and Prasidh Krishna bowled full tilt at India's first outdoor training session ahead of the fourth Test. Akash Deep, who has been nursing a groin injury since the Lord's Test, did not get the green light from the team physio to have a go at the nets soon after undergoing a bowling fitness evaluation in the middle under the watchful eyes of coach Morne Morkel. Minutes later, he was a spectator to the net session standing alongside Arshdeep Singh who has been ruled out of the game due to a hand injury. If Akash Deep too is deemed unfit, the team management will need to choose between Prasidh Krishna or Anshul Kamboj for the third pacer's slot alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Kamboj, who joined the team over the weekend as a cover for the injured Arshdeep, was on Monday added to the main squad, raising the possibility of a surprise debut. The pacer from Haryana bowled for close to an hour in the nets with high intensity alongside Siraj, Bumrah, Prasidh and Shardul Thakur. Kamboj was also seen padded up for a brief batting session alongside Thakur, who could be a direct replacement for injured all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. Siraj had the highest intensity bowling against the likes of Shubman Gill, K L Rahul and Rishabh Pant while Bumrah moved to the field of play for more bowling after finding the practice surface slippery. Rishabh Pant bats and keeps pain free ======================= All eyes were also glued to Rishabh Pant, who had not kept wickets at the Lord's after getting on his fingers while keeping wickets on the opening day of the second Test. While batting on day five, Pant was grimacing every time he defended against a seriously quick Jofra Archer. Considering he performed keeping drills and batted pain free for an hour, Pant looks fit enough to start the fourth Test. Pant is always up for some banter even with his own teammates and that was evident when he shared the nets with skipper Shubman Gill. There was no apparent discomfort while batting against Mohammed Siraj, Kamboj and Krishna. There is also speculation over Karun Nair's slot in the playing eleven but he batted with plenty of purpose. So was the case with Sai Sudharsan, who could replace Nair in the playing eleven. The southpaw was also seen taking catching practice in the slip cordon. With Nitish Reddy on his way back to India, Yashasvi Jaiswal was back doing catching drills in the slip cordon.
