Aditi logs best finish of 2025, 6th in Portland

Portland (Oregon), Aug 18 (PTI) Aditi Ashok fired a final round of 5-under 67 to finish sixth in The Standard Portland Classic held at Columbia Edgewater Country Club on the LPGA.
The sixth place finish is Aditi's best finish of the season on the LPGA and only the second Top-10 finish this season.
Aditi shot 69-70-65-67 to finish the week with a score of 17 under par. She had seven birdies and two bogeys in her final round.
Indian-American Gurleen Kaur shot 7-under 65 on the final day for her career best result of second with a total score of 20-under par.
Kaur shot rounds of 65-68-70-65 to end the week four strokes behind the winner Akie Iwai.
Indian-Canadian Savannah Grewal finished tied 38 with a total score of seven under par (69-67-72-73).
Akie Iwai shot a final round of 6-under 66 to secure her maiden title by a comfortable margin of four strokes.
The Japanese player finished the week with a total score of 24 under par (67-67-64-66). Her final round included five birdies and was devoid of bogeys.
She also joins a small list of golfers who are part of a sibling duo to have won a title on the tour.
Chisato Iwai, Akie's twin sister, also won her maiden title earlier this year at the Mexico Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba. The Iwai sisters are the fourth set of siblings to have won a title on the LPGA.

Top Indian archers to compete in inaugural Archery Premier League
India's top archers, including Deepika Kumari, Dhiraj Bommadevara, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Abhishek Verma, will compete in the inaugural Archery Premier League (APL), the national federation said on Monday. As reported by PTI earlier, the six franchise-based competition, billed as a first-of-its-kind global initiative, will bring together leading recurve and compound archers from across the world for an 11-day event in October at the Yamuna Sports Complex in New Delhi. Apart from the Indian archers, the inaugural APL, which has got the backing from World Archery and the Asian federation, will also see participation from the top-ranked international archers, who will be divided among the six franchises, but their names are yet to be announced. The inaugural season is likely to follow a draft system instead of an auction, with each squad comprising eight members—four men and four women. Teams can include up to two foreign archers, with at least one of them required to be part of the playing four. The recurve and compound archers will shoot 70m and 50m, respectively, in a unique team format under floodlights. The Indian archers were picked based on world rankings as well as Archery Association of India's (AAI) recent selection trials. In recurve, world No. 3 Deepika and world No. 14 Dhiraj headline the field, alongside veterans Tarundeep Rai and Atanu Das. Other women recurve archers include Ankita Bhakat and Bhajan Kaur, while the men's line-up features Neeraj Chauhan, Rahul, Rohit Kumar, Mrinal Chauhan, Sachin Gupta and Krish Kumar. In compound, world record-holder Jyothi Surekha (No. 3) and world No. 9 Rishabh Yadav lead the charge. They are joined by veteran Abhishek (No. 10), Prathamesh Bhalchandra Fuge (No. 11), Priyansh (No. 16) and Parneet Kaur (No. 17). Vishal in hunt for freestyle bronze in U20 World Wrestling Championships
Freestyle wrestler Vishal will fight for the bronze medal after losing his 97kg freestyle semifinal bout to UWW grappler Magomedgadzhi Magomedov on the opening day of the U20 World Championships, here on Sunday. The 20-year-old Indian lost the closely-fought semifinal 9-11 and will now take on a yet-to-be-confirmed grappler in the bronze-medal bout. Vishal gave his opponent a tough fight and had the grappler, who was fighting under the United World Wrestling (UWW) flag, in all sorts of trouble before Magomedov managed to eke out a narrow win.
