Woman's decapitated, burnt body found from her backyard
The victim, identified as Piyali Malakar, was the daughter of Shankar and Trishna Malakar. According to her grieving parents, Piyali had gone missing from their home on July 21 while they were away. Despite attempts to locate her, the family had no leads and finally lodged a missing persons report at Bazaricherra police station.
Nearly six days later, a foul stench began emanating from their backyard. Shankar Malakar went to inspect and reportedly noticed footprints in the area.
He immediately alerted the police.
A team, accompanied by a magistrate, arrived at the scene and recovered the partially buried, decapitated body. The remains were sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for autopsy. The family identified the body based on the clothes on it.
Speaking to the media, Shankar accused local miscreants of being involved, calling his daughter's murder a cold-blooded and premeditated crime.

Killer warned ex-fiancee: ‘Shankar won't see sunset'
Jaipur: Hours before gunning down labour inspector Shankar Lal Balai in cold blood, RAC constable Ajay Katariya called his former fiancée with a chilling message that he was leaving Delhi with 50 cartridges and one mission — to ensure Balai is dead. Police sources told TOI that the fiancée, a woman constable posted in Jaipur, dismissed the threat as just another of Katariya's rants. She did not warn Balai, her distant cousin. She did not know Katariya meant it. After surrendering to police, Katariya, a constable with the 12th Battalion of Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) in New Delhi, narrated how he went off the radar after his duty shift on Monday. Instead of depositing his service-issued self loading rifle (SLR), he dismantled it, packed it in a bag and boarded a bus to Jaipur. He arrived at Sindhi Camp bus stand early Tuesday, booked an offline cab, and headed straight to Vatika Infotech City township in Bagru, around 47 km from Jaipur, where Balai lived. Near the house, Katariya unzipped the bag inside the cab, assembled the SLR and pointed it at the stunned driver. "Hand over the keys and run," he said. The driver obeyed. He sprinted to the township gate and alerted a guard. The two then began running back toward the villa. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search Ads Get Info Around 6:30am, Balai stepped outside his home with neem twigs in hand, brushing his teeth by the gate. His two children were asleep inside. His wife, Saroj, had stepped out to buy milk from a nearby house. Katariya was waiting. He parked the cab outside the house. As Balai walked out the gate, an argument broke out between the two. Suddenly, Katariya pulled the rifle and aimed at his victim. Balai bolted, trying to escape through an empty plot. He chased Balai for nearly 20 metres, shooting as he ran. Bullets struck Balai in the back, neck and thigh. He collapsed, bleeding on the road — just moments before the guard and driver returned. Hearing the gunshots, they froze about 100 metres away. Local resident Sita Ram Gora recalled how Balai's wife came running, horrified. "She saw him lying in a pool of blood," Gora said.

Abstinence from duty by presiding officer on strike call by bar assn illegal: HC
Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court has said abstinence from professional duty by presiding officers on a call given by the bar association was illegal and those officials who comply with such strike resolutions could face misconduct charges. While making these observations, Justice JJ Munir issued a show cause notice to the sub divisional magistrate (SDM), Koil, Aligarh for adjourning a case in pursuance of a resolution of the local bar association of Aligarh calling upon the lawyers to abstain from judicial work. "Accepting such a strike resolution may amount to misconduct on the part of the presiding officer and could invite a recommendation for disciplinary action, including removal from office," the court said in its order dated July 28. The case pertains to a restoration application filed by one Satyapal Singh before the SDM under section 38(2) of the UP Revenue Code, 2006. The case was adjourned on July 25, 2025, since the advocates were abstaining from work on that day and the matter was fixed for July 28. Coming down heavily on the conduct of the SDM, the court observed: "It is well settled that any kind of abstinence from professional duty on a call by the bar association is absolutely illegal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 11 Foods That Help In Healing Knee Pain Naturally | Zen Life Mag Undo If no one appeared to press the restoration application and there was a resolution by the Bar, the court could not have sided with the resolution and fallen foul of the law laid down by the Supreme Court." The court also referred to certain Supreme Court decisions in the cases of Ex-Capt Harish Uppal v. Union of India and another 2003 and many others. The court also sought full particulars of the bar association, its president and secretary in the affidavit on whose call the advocates abstained from their duties. The matter will now be heard on August 6.
