Saudi charity drives support for mosque projects, Umrah trips and Zakat Al-Fitr
RIYADH: The fifth National Campaign for Charitable Work, hosted on the Ehsan platform during Ramadan, continues to attract significant donations, focusing on mosque enhancements and worship services.
The campaign has funded more than 3,000 Umrah trips, built five mosques, maintained 46, and provided essential resources to 12, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Sunday.
Donations can be made via ehsan.sa or the donor service center at 8001247000, the SPA added.
Ehsan has also begun accepting Zakat Al-Fitr donations digitally to ensure prompt distribution to eligible recipients across the Kingdom.
This follows the approved charitable methods of Ehsan's Shariah Committee, chaired by Royal Court Adviser Sheikh Abdullah Al-Mutlaq, a member of the Council of Senior Scholars.
Donors can pay Zakat Al-Fitr via the Ehsan app or website, specifying the administrative region and the number of recipients. This is done in coordination with relevant authorities across all regions.
As part of the fifth National Campaign for Charitable Work, Zakat Al-Fitr distribution aims to empower the community during this season of giving and fulfill religious obligations, according to the SPA.
Supporting charitable initiatives, King Salman donated SR40 million ($10.6 million), while Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman contributed SR30 million for the fifth campaign. So far, total donations have exceeded SR1 billion.
This achievement reflects Saudi society's commitment to unity, solidarity, and compassion during Ramadan. Contributions have come from individuals, companies, institutions, and philanthropists.
The 2024 campaign has raised more than SR1.8 billion through 15 million transactions, reinforcing the Kingdom's leadership in charitable work and sustainable development.

GASTAT Announces 1,673,230 Pilgrims for Hajj
The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) announced on Thursday that a total of 1,673,230 pilgrims are performing Hajj. Of these, 1,506,576 arrived from abroad, while 166,654 are from within the Kingdom, including both citizens and residents. According to a GASTAT press release, male pilgrims, both internal and external, totaled 877,841, while female pilgrims numbered 795,389. GASTAT also revealed that 1,435,017 pilgrims arrived in the Kingdom via airports, 66,465 through land border crossings, and 5,094 via seaports. GASTAT's methodology for these statistics relies primarily on administrative records from the Ministry of Interior. This approach, which has been consistently adopted over the past five years, aims to provide high-accuracy and reliable register-based data for Hajj statistics, utilizing a standardized model with several key components. As the Kingdom's official statistical authority, GASTAT is the exclusive provider of official statistics in Saudi Arabia and is entrusted with overseeing all national statistical activities, including technical supervision, conducting field surveys and research, data analysis, and managing the documentation, preservation, and tabulation of statistical information across all sectors of life in the Kingdom. On this occasion, GASTAT President Dr. Fahad Aldossari extended his sincere appreciation to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for their unwavering support and comprehensive care provided to the pilgrims.

Saudi Press Agency launches Saudi Photo Platform to expand global access to visual archive
MAKKAH: Saudi Arabia's minister of media and chairman of the Saudi Press Agency, Salman bin Yousef Al-Dosari, on Wednesday launched the Saudi Photo Platform, a new digital initiative designed to offer free access to SPA's vast archive of authenticated images. Unveiled during the second edition of the Hajj Media Forum at the Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Exhibition and Events Center, the platform will allow users worldwide to browse, use, and share images under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License. The forum was attended by local and international media representatives. Acting SPA President Ali bin Abdullah Al-Zaid said the platform reflected its strategy to make its visual archive more widely available to content creators around the globe, while preserving intellectual property rights and promoting creativity in a regulated digital environment. He added that launching the platform from Makkah held symbolic significance, reinforcing the city's historic role in conveying Saudi Arabia's message to the world, and said it marked an important step toward enhancing the Kingdom's visual presence in the digital space. The Saudi Photo Platform, which can be reached on features high-resolution images, sorted by category and accompanied by detailed metadata, including event descriptions and publication dates. The archive is continuously updated to document key national and international events, and the site is fully supported in both Arabic and English. The initiative is part of SPA's broader digital transformation agenda, aimed at modernizing publishing tools and fostering new partnerships with media outlets and online users worldwide, it said.

Saudi Arabia, Syria Explore Investment Cooperation
Saudi Arabia and Syria have explored avenues for investment cooperation in both countries, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). On Wednesday, the Saudi Minister of Investment, Khalid Al-Falih, held a virtual meeting with the Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry, Mohammad Nidal al-Shaar, to discuss avenues for joint investment cooperation and explore the promising economic opportunities in the Syrian market. During the meeting, the two ministers discussed potential areas for public-private partnership and ways to strengthen targeted investments in the productive and service sectors, with the aim of supporting economic development and opening new channels for integration between Saudi Arabia and Syria. On his part, Al-Falih emphasized the importance of fostering an enabling environment for expanding regional investment partnerships. He also reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's commitment to supporting the stability and growth of Syria's economy in a way that benefits the mutual interests of both countries and promotes regional economic prosperity. Most recently, the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, headed a high-level economic delegation to Syria, where he met with the Syrian Transitional President, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, in Damascus. The discussions yielded in the announcement of a Saudi-Qatari joint financial support package for Syrian public sector employees for three months.
