Huma Bhabha's 'Distant Star' Lands at David Zwirner Paris
David Zwirner's Paris gallery is presentingDistant Star, a new solo exhibition by Pakistani American artistHuma Bhabha. Known for her eerie, hybrid forms, Bhabha debuts six sculptures and a group of large-scale drawings that explore themes of time, decay and transformation.
At the front of the gallery stands the centerpiece sculpture, 'Distant Star' (2025). Cast in iron, the rust-toned figure resembles a watchful guardian. Its surface will continue to oxidize over time, reinforcing Bhabha's idea of time as a sculptural force.
Inside the gallery, five sculptures made from cork, clay, Styrofoam and found materials stand on black plinths like unearthed relics. Bhabha carves and layers these forms, adding wet clay to enhance their rough, scarred surfaces. Some figures feature skeletal heads made from animal skulls and wire, evoking ruins both ancient and futuristic.
Surrounding the sculptures are large drawings composed of ink and collage. Each features a hooded figure with cut-out eyes, referencing both medieval religious portraits and contemporary streetwear. These portraits, stripped of facial features, appear haunting yet human.
Distant Staris Bhabha's first solo show in Paris since 2009. It runs alongsideEncounters: Giacomettiat London's Barbican Centre, where her work is on view in dialogue with the sculptures of Alberto Giacometti.

Khloe Kardashian ‘Feels Pressure' to Match ‘Filtered' Image, Spends ‘Hours' Setting Up Perfect Photos: Source
Khloé Kardashian is a perfectionist when it comes to her social media appearance, according to a source. While the Good American co-founder, 41, claimed on the July 16 episode of her Khloé in Wonder Land podcast that she doesn't photoshop her pictures anymore, a source tells Star, she still 'feels this pressure to live up to this filtered version of herself.' 'She spends hours setting up the perfect shot, between the lighting and the glam session, it's a full production every single time just to take a selfie,' the source reveals. 'And she won't stop at one. She'll take hundreds of nearly identical photos, then obsess over which one to post.' The source explains that after The Kardashians star gets opinions from her team, she 'still goes back and forth over which one to post.' 'It's never just snap and go,' the source shares. 'It takes hours to get something she feels is worthy of posting.' The source adds that the reality TV personality has her phone on her at all times, 'because she's built this image that's so curated.' On the July 16 podcast episode, the Keeping up with the Kardashians alum admitted that she doesn't consider herself very 'photogenic' and copped to taking hundreds of photos to find one that she likes. However, Kardashian also said her Photoshopping days were behind her — a claim that fans didn't buy. 'I don't [Photoshop photos], but there was a time that I definitely did,' she told listeners. 'There was a time that I was around some people that would make me feel like I needed to. I also think it was the era, too. I felt like a lot of people were Photoshopping or heavily Photoshopping more than they do now.' 'I do feel like there was a time that we all just got consumed in this filter lifestyle, and we couldn't see ourselves without a filter,' Kardashian recounted. 'And there's definitely days that I'm like, 'Ugh, I need a filter, I don't feel good about myself.' But I'm on video. And I do like myself better in video than stills.' The media personality noted that she didn't even know what she looked like in real life because people in her circle would retouch her photos before showing them to her. 'If they took my photo, they would make me look that way before giving it to me. And then I would think that's how I looked,' she admitted. 'And if I got paparazzied, I'd be like, 'I don't look like that. I look like this photo.'' 'I really had to reprogram my mind to think, 'Okay, we have to lay off the filters. This isn't real,'' she shared. ''That's not how I look. And I don't want to look like that.'' Solve the daily Crossword

Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson Enjoying ‘Happy Reunion' Amid Romance Rumors: ‘The Spark Is Obvious' (Exclusive)
Joshua Jackson and Katie Holmes brought on the nostalgia when they reconnected for a film project in the Big Apple last week. 'The spark between them is very obvious and very natural, it's been a blissfully happy reunion for them,' an insider exclusively tells Star of the former Dawson's Creek costars. 'They're spending a lot of time together off set, apparently they've been dressing in disguise so they can enjoy the city together without getting mobbed,' added the source. Holmes, 46, and Jackson, 47, were photographed on the set of her new movie in New York City on July 21, more than two decades after captivating viewers as the beloved characters Pacey and Joey in the WB show which spanned for six seasons from 1998 to 2003. The mom of one has been utilizing many of her talents as she is set to direct and star in her new feature film trilogy, Happy Hours, which will also star Jackson, Deadline reported. Happy Hours — which Holmes also helped write — follows their relationship as the duo navigates 'the challenges of careers, family responsibilities and the pursuit of love, despite life's inevitable obstacles.' When they're on set, an eyewitness tells Star that Holmes and Jackson's strong bond is evident. 'They stick to themselves mostly and are always deep in conversation,' says the source. Holmes and Jackson notably dated for around a year after Dawson's Creek debuted and ultimately went their separate ways after the hit series wrapped. She went on to date Chris Klein from 2000 to 2005, and then tied the knot with Tom Cruise in 2006. Their divorce was finalized six years later in 2012. Holmes was also romantically involved with Jamie Foxx from 2013 to 2019, and more recently, chef Emilio Vitolo Jr. from 2020 to 2021 and musician Bobby Wooten III for roughly nine months in 2022. As for Jackson, he dated Diane Kruger for around 10 years from 2006 to 2016, later exchanging vows with Jodie Turner-Smith in 2019 before calling it quits in 2023. He was also romantically linked with actress Lupita Nyong'o — although it was reported they split in 2024. With Holmes and Jackson working together again, fans are stirring with hopes of a rekindled romance. 'Clearly all the feelings are buzzing again but they're not going to go public with it anytime soon,' the source says of Holmes and Jackson. 'They're in the midst of filming and are very professional, not until they're done working would they ever cop to this.' 'Not to mention the hysteria that will happen when they do, it's going to create a frenzy, which they'll both want to avoid as long as possible,' adds the source. 'Josh is very discreet, but most of his friends assume things have moved past the just friends stage for them.' Solve the daily Crossword

This San Ramon Mall Might Be a New Destination for Indian Cuisine in the East Bay
An East Bay mall is about to be a hot spot for phenomenal, laid-back Indian food. The teams behind tremendously popular mini empire Curry Up Now and Michelin Guide-approved Tiya will open a new restaurant together at City Center Bishop Ranch. Khaki will debut for dinner on Thursday, July 31, at 6000 Bollinger Canyon Road in San Ramon, a former Curry Up Now location. This new restaurant will be much more upscale than the typical Indian burrito outlet, though, says Akash Kapoor, founder of Curry Up Now and co-owner at Khaki. Chefs and brothers Sujan and Pujan Sarkar — the former of whom took Chicago's Indienne to one-Michelin-star status — worked with Kapoor to get a comfort food menu with fine dining approaches ready, while Tiya's Eater Award-winning bartender Izler Thomas came in for drinks. Broadly, the menu and approach reflect all three's memories of eating and living in India. 'The menu isn't just food,' Kapoor says, 'it's a lived experience that I've been through and they've been through.' The Bishop Ranch restaurant — referred to as an Indian bar and canteen by the team — will cover all of the regions of India in various ways. As the country is enormous, that survey will take time, convenient as the restaurant's menu will rotate seasonally. A jackfruit cutlet on the debut menu is a play on the common Calcutta street food, Kapoor says, the home region to both Sujan and Pujan. A dry-aged beef dish nods to coastal Karnataka while a Champaran mutton, cooked in an Indian clay pot, showcases the Bihari region of Kapoor's childhood. Bengali fish paturi stars, too, a lighter affair steamed in banana leaf with heavy mustard flavors. Chaat and all kinds of street snacks will dot the scene, too. Across the board, the idea is to plant a big flag for Indian cuisine; the name is a reclamation of the term given to British colonists and their infamous footmen, but khaki itself — a derivative of the Urdu word for soil — is a color brought to the world from India. Neetu Laddha Neetu Laddha Therefore the menu and ambiance pay homage to the era in which India separated itself from colonial rule, the '60s and '70s. Bright, zany colors and tastes that took charge during that time are center stage. Drinks follow suit, showcased with pride at a 14-seater bar. There'll be a Negroni incorporating truffle and goat cheese, which arrives with a cracker, perhaps topping Thomas's Parmesan and sourdough-infused drink at Tiya. Bengal's panch phoron spice, made for pickling, will star in a grapefruit tequila cocktail, riffing on a paloma. Another drink relies on clarified vanilla ice cream, basil, yuzu, and elderflower. Thomas's brother, Roger Thomas, is joining the team here, while Kapoor pitched in thanks to his experience at Curry Up Now's Mortar & Pestle cocktail curation. Kapoor says this former Curry Up Now outpost did decent, but not the numbers he wanted to hit. COVID cratered Bishop Ranch, the workers in the area drying up. He and Sujan were already pals, and he broached the idea of collaborating in 2024. Indian design firm Curry Fwd, the same team behind Tiya's build out, handled the aesthetic which includes three different kinds of hand-drawn wallpapers. They hope the restaurant will be a familiar member of the community, not a place just for anniversaries. Kapoor says while he loves many of the upscale Indian restaurants in town, his favorite San Francisco restaurant is Ernest. He feels it is a restaurant well worth the price, pointing to the reliable $95 tasting menu; Besharam and Heena Patel's cooking shine as well-made and affordable, too. 'We are not in the education business. We're not trying to educate people on how to eat Indian food,' Kapoor says. 'But it's very important to look back and say, 'Okay, this is what we set out to do.' The food's not just for people who make $200,000. The food's got to be honest, man.' Khaki (6000 Bollinger Canyon Road) will open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and until 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with lunch hours to follow.
