Audi TT likely to come back in electric avatar, concept to debut in September 2025

Hindustan Times5 days ago
The Audi TT went out of production in 2023. Considered as one of the most popular sports cars, the Audi TT seems to be gearing up for a comeback, but this time in an all-electric guise. Audi CEO Gernot Döllner has revealed that the German luxury car manufacturer is readying a concept model for debut in September this year.
Interestingly, the Volkswagen AG-owned car manufacturer is testing a prototype that has been spotted wearing camouflage. The test mule spotted was based on the upcoming Porsche 718 EV.

German publication Bild has reported that the upcoming Audi concept model that is expected to preview the electric version of the TT will be christened as TT Moment 2.0. Audi CEO has said that this electric concept car will debut this fall and will be unveiled during the Munich Motor Show.
The report claims that the Audi TT Moment 2.0 will be larger than the TT that has been discontinued. The report also claims that it would come as a shrunk-down iteration of the Audi A5 Coupe/Convertible. In that case, it would be positioned between a TT and R8 when it enters production. The report stated that the production version of the concept model would enter manufacturing in the next two years. The report further stated that the TT successor could come considerably sportier and be offered with an available dual motor setup, which means each motor will be powering one axle and sending power to all four wheels.
Audi has not revealed any details about the electric sports car yet. However, with the Porsche 718 Electric's launch pushed back to 2027 due to battery issues, the Audi model too would come around that time only. We can expect that more details about the Audi TT electric sports car to be revealed in the coming months, before the Munich Motor Show.

US copper stabilises, retains premium over global benchmark

LONDON, Aug 1 (Reuters) - U.S. copper prices stabilised on Friday after the biggest one-day decline on record the previous day as the market continued to assess a surprise move by U.S. President Donald Trump to exclude refined metal from 50% import tariffs. U.S. September Comex copper futures were last up 1.6% at $4.423 per lb, or $9,751 a metric ton, after plunging by 22% on Thursday. Benchmark three-month copper on the London Metal Exchange rose 0.4% to $9,645 a ton by 1607 GMT as the dollar fell after U.S. job growth slowed more than expected in July and traders ramped up bets on how many times the Federal Reserve was likely to cut rates this year. A weaker U.S. currency makes dollar-priced metals more attractive for buyers using other currencies, while lower rates improve prospects for growth-dependent copper. Price pressure was applied by rising copper stocks in LME-registered warehouses and the risk of more inflows from massive inventories in the U.S. after Washington excluded refined copper from its import tariffs. Copper stocks in Comex-owned warehouses are at a 21-year high of 233,977 tons after 176% growth over the March-July period. Available LME stocks , meanwhile, more than doubled in July and are at a three-month high of 127,475 tons. Limiting the prospect of massive outflows from U.S. stocks in the short term is the Comex copper futures premium over the LME price, even with this week's price falls. "Comex copper's premium is now only a few hundred dollars, which is still huge historically but nothing compared to the recent $3,000 premium," one metals trader said. Trump imposed steep tariffs on exports from dozens of trading partners, including Canada, Brazil, India and Taiwan, ahead of Friday's trade deal deadline. China, the world's top metals consumer, is facing an August 12 deadline to reach a durable agreement with Washington. On the supply side, Chilean copper giant Codelco said five workers were trapped at the new Andesita unit of its flagship El Teniente mine after a 4.2 magnitude tremor on Thursday. Andesita was due to begin production in the second quarter. Among other LME metals, aluminium rose 0.2% to $2,570 a ton, lead gained 0.2% to $1,974, tin jumped 1.8% to $33,300 and nickel added 0.5% to $15,005. Zinc fell 1.1% to $2,729. Elon Musk's X Accuses UK Of ‘Censorship' Over Online Safety Laws: 'Free Speech Will Suffer'

Elon Musk's social media platform X criticized the UK's new online safety rules, warning they suppress free expression. Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) criticised UK's new online safety regulations, warning that the laws risk suppressing free expression and amount to state-sponsored censorship. The Elon Musk-owned company said, 'Free speech will suffer. The Act's laudable intentions are at risk of being overshadowed by the breadth of its regulatory reach. Without a more balanced, collaborative approach, free speech will suffer." The criticism comes days after new provisions under the UK's Online Safety Act came into force. Among them is a requirement for websites- including adult and social media platforms- to verify users' ages to prevent children from accessing explicit or violent material. X said it had worked to comply with the new rules, including introducing age verification mechanisms but warned that the threat of significant financial penalties could lead platforms to over-censor. The company said, 'Many are now concerned that a plan ostensibly intended to keep children safe is at risk of seriously infringing on the public's right to free expression." The UK government has defended the legislation as per which companies that fail to comply could face fines of up to £18 million or 10% of global turnover- a figure that could amount to £200 million in X's case. Earlier this week, the UK's media regulator Ofcom said it had begun investigations into dozens of websites that had not introduced required safeguards. It confirmed it had written to US-based firms to remind them of their obligations. X also criticised measures that would enable police to monitor social media for content deemed anti-immigrant, arguing this 'oversteps the intended mission" of child protection. X's criticism echoes comments made by Elon Musk in which he described the Online Safety Act as a 'suppression of the people." He also endorsed a public petition calling for the law's repeal, which has gathered over 450,000 signatures. However, Ofcom insisted the rules do not require platforms to restrict legal content for adults as a spokesperson said, 'They must carefully consider how they protect users' rights to freedom of expression while keeping people safe." Tesla To Launch First Supercharging Station In Mumbai

The Superchargers will offer a peak charging speed of up to 250 kW, with prices starting at Rs 24 per kWh Elon Musk-owned Tesla on Friday announced that it will launch its first Supercharging station in India next week, starting with Mumbai. The new Tesla Charging Station in Mumbai will be the first in the country and will include four V4 Supercharging Stalls (DC fast chargers) and four Destination Charging Stalls (AC chargers). According to Tesla, the Superchargers will offer a peak charging speed of up to 250 kW, with prices starting at Rs 24 per kWh. The Destination chargers will provide up to 11 kW of power at Rs 14 per kWh. 'This will be the first of the eight Supercharging sites that were announced during the launch in Mumbai, with more planned across the country, to provide the optimal cross-country experience," the company said in a statement, adding that more locations are planned across India to support cross-country travel and improve EV convenience. Tesla opened its first Indian showroom on July 15 at the Maker Maxity Commercial Complex in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). This was also the day it officially launched the Model Y in the Indian market. The Model Y, a mid-size electric SUV, is the first car Tesla is offering in India. It starts at Rs 59.89 lakh for the rear-wheel drive version, with the long-range variant priced at Rs 67.89 lakh. Tesla claims the Model Y can add up to 267 kilometres of range in just 15 minutes using the new Superchargers. That, the company says, is enough for five return trips between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and the Gateway of India in Mumbai. Additionally, Tesla will provide a free wall connector with every new car purchase, which can be installed at customers' homes for convenient charging. The company had paused its India entry plans in 2022 but resumed efforts last year, searching for showroom space in key cities. Its launch in India comes at a time when Tesla is facing falling global sales and increased competition in the EV market.
