"Op Sindoor primarily an anti-terrorist strike; had very little to do with Pakistan," Former Dy NSA
New Delhi [India], June 15 (ANI): Former Deputy National Security Advisor Pankaj Saran emphasised India's firm stance against terrorism, highlighting Pakistan as the epicentre of the issue.
Speaking to ANI on the sidelines of a event here, Saran clarified that Operation Sindoor was an anti-terrorist strike, not aimed at Pakistan itself but targeting terrorist infrastructure.
'The message was simple that we have a problem on our hands, which is terrorism and the epicentre of that problem is next door to us, which is Pakistan. The Operation Sindoor had very little to do with Pakistan. It was primarily an anti-terrorist strike. If the terrorist infrastructure is located in Pakistan, that is too bad. We've been telling the Pakistani authorities that either you deal with it or someone else will. The operation that was conducted was only against terrorist infrastructure. It's important to keep this distinction,' he said.
He underscored the nexus between terror groups and Pakistan's military, describing it as an instrument of state policy.
'The second message was that the epicentre is Pakistan. There is a direct nexus between terror groups and the army. It is part and parcel of their instruments of state policy,' he said.
Saran also stressed that India's fight against terrorism aligns with global concerns, noting, 'India is not alone; the entire world has been a victim of terrorism.'
On India's growing global stature, Saran highlighted the country's consistent inclusion in G7 discussions, even predating Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tenure.
'India has been a regular invitee, even before he (PM Modi) became a Prime Minister, even in the pre-Modi era, India was an invitee. I think the invitation is a recognition of a reality that everyone accepts today, which is that you cannot discuss the state and the future of the global economy without India...Because you cannot have a solution to any global problem without India...India must always be a part of the solution, never a part of the problem. Which is why we have been invited despite all the bilateral problems with Canada, because the G7 feels that they need to have India on their side,' he said.
On Sunday morning, Prime Minister Modi departed from New Delhi for Cyprus. His visit to Cyprus will take place from June 15 to 16. Following that, he will participate in the G-7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, on June 16 and 17, and will conclude his trip with an official visit to Croatia on June 18. (ANI)

New Delhi [India], June 15 (ANI): Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal expressed his 'deepest condolences' over the unfortunate bridge collapse incident near Talegaon of Maharashtra's Pune. 'This accident in Pune is very sad. My deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this accident. I wish for the speedy recovery of those injured in the accident,' Kejriwal posted on X. An old iron bridge over the Indrayani River near Kundamala village in Maharashtra's Pune district collapsed on Sunday afternoon, leaving at least four people dead and dozens injured, officials said. The incident prompted authorities to launch immediate search and rescue operations. According to the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), 39 people were rescued and four bodies recovered. 'A narrow bridge over the Indrayani River in Kundmala, Pune, collapsed. 35 people were rescued initially by local efforts. NDRF, in joint ops with civil administration, rescued 4 more alive & recovered 4 bodies. Rescue operations are ongoing,' the NDRF said in a post on X. The Maharashtra government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the families of those killed in the incident. 'CM Devendra Fadnavis has announced that the state government will provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in the bridge collapse incident on the Indrayani river near Talegaon in Pune district. Additionally, the state government will also bear the cost for the medical treatment of the injured,' the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said in a post on X. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently in Cyprus, spoke to CM Fadnavis to take stock of the ongoing rescue and relief operations. Maharashtra Minister Girish Mahajan, also at the scene, stated that the bridge collapsed due to excessive load as nearly 300 tourists stood on it despite prior warnings. 'The rescue operation is going on war footing. There is a possibility of the presence of a body under the debris... NDRF and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are all working to remove the debris... This narrow bridge was meant for the movement of the farmers, but 250-300 tourists stood on it, and the bridge collapsed due to excessive load... Entry was denied over here with boards erected, even police and locals warned about it,' Mahajan told ANI. Maharashtra Minister Makarand Patil also expressed these concerns and said several injured have been admitted to the civil hospital. 'Till now, injured people have been admitted to the (Civil) hospital... The rescue operation is going on in full swing. NDRF and SDRF have come here for the same, along with volunteering organisations and locals... This bridge was restricted for people and two-wheelers; however, due to excitement around monsoon tourism, many tourists gathered on despite restrictions,' Patil told ANI. J-K: LG lays foundation stone for auditorium, upgradation work for govt school in Samba
Samba (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 15 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha laid the foundation stone of an Auditorium and upgradation work for the Government Higher Secondary School in Gurha Slathia, Samba, a release said on Sunday. According to the release, sunds for the new Auditorium having capacity of 500 persons and upgradation of Government Higher Secondary School have been arranged through Charity after Local representatives and youth had raised this demand during Lieutenant Governor's previous visit to Gurha Slathia in February 2025. 'When I visited Gurha Slathia in February this year, the youth here requested a big auditorium of 500 persons capacity. I assured them we would move forward with the project, with me securing 50% of the funds and the local MLA providing the remaining half. But I realised that it will require a huge amount of money and such arrangement may not work because the budget has gone to the government and wasn't sure whether it will be approved in the budget session. So, I needed to find another way to fulfil this promise. I asked revered Babaji to help me in getting a big auditorium and upgradation of the school. He assured me that it will be done. I am happy and grateful. I am hopeful that the work on Auditorium will be completed in one year. The Government Higher Secondary School will also be made technologically advanced,' the Lieutenant Governor said. The Lieutenant Governor also announced a sports facility at Gurha Slathia to be financed through charity. He congratulated the people of Gurha Slathia and dedicated the new projects to the local youth. 'I am happy to see a big dream is being realised today. We must remember that education shapes a region's destiny and drives inclusive development and stability. Therefore, we must focus on educational infrastructure for economic growth and entrepreneurial ventures,' the Lieutenant Governor said. The Lieutenant Governor highlighted major transformative initiatives aligned with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, that have brought a new revolution in school and higher education across Jammu Kashmir. He said 'There are numerous examples in the world which show that a particular region was transformed from resource-scarce area into economic powers within a matter of years and decades, largely due to massive investment in education and skill development of its young population. We have also ensured equitable access to quality education in rural areas and thousands of out of school students were brought back to the classrooms,' the Lieutenant Governor said. He called upon the youth to take advantage of the new education and skilling initiatives to transform this Union Territory into a hub of innovation, equity and ensure a brighter future for the society. The Lieutenant Governor, in his address, also spoke on the revolutionary changes taking place across the sectors in Samba and reiterated his commitment to the inclusive development of the border areas of the district. 'Strong border areas protect the country's core and act as a first line of defence. In the past five years, border areas of Samba witnessed massive infrastructure upgradation. Fast-paced industrialization also fostered economic growth and integrated the local population into national mainstream,' he said.
