Mail thief found sleeping in car next to community mailboxes: Hemet police
The officers were sent to the 1300 block of Division Court around 4:45 a.m. on Thursday to follow up on a report of a suspicious vehicle parked near the mailboxes and located a tan and gold 1993 Jeep Cherokee.
'The vehicle was occupied by an adult male, later identified as 42-year-old Naythan Story, who appeared to be unconscious in the driver's seat while the vehicle was running,' the Hemet Police Department posted on Facebook.
Officers then learned that Story was on probation and observed a lock-picking tool on the ground near the driver's side door. Additional suspicious items, including a socket wrench, several access cards and a brass key marked 'USPS Property,' were visible inside the vehicle, police said.
Upon searching the suspect and the SUV police came up with the following list of items:
A clear baggie containing approximately 1.88 grams of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.
Multiple debit and credit cards belonging to individuals other than Story, some of whom confirmed they were victims of recent fraudulent activity.
A total of 36 access cards (including EBT, debit, credit, and insurance cards) linked to at least 25 different individuals.
Several hundred pieces of mail, including sensitive financial and government documents, originating from addresses across Hemet, Temecula, Murrieta, Winchester, Menifee, South Gate, Compton, and other areas.
Four USPS master keys and a modified socket tool believed to be used in mail thefts.
Story was arrested and booked for alleged possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of access cards of 10 or more victims and possession of access cards with intent to defraud.
Residents were reminded to report any suspicious activity around mailboxes or vehicles parked in unusual locations. Anyone with further information regarding this case was asked to contact Detective Aguila at 951-765-2423 or email paguila@hemetpd.gov.

Man accused of endangering child after firing gun inside home
WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police are charging a man after they say he fired a gunshot into the ceiling of a home where a 4-year-old was present upstairs. According to the Williamsport Bureau of Police, officers were called to a home in the 800 block of Packer Street for a gunshot fired inside. Once on the scene, officers said they encountered the suspect, 65-year-old John Joseph Holohan, exiting the home from the back. Search for missing man in Moosic Investigators stated that Holohan was part of an argument when he took out a .357 Magnum revolver and fired it into the first-floor ceiling of the residence. When Holohan fired the gun into the ceiling, a 4-year-old was in a second-floor bedroom above where Holohan was positioned, police say. However, no persons suffered any injuries. The mail carrier backed away from the tortoiseshell cat, who was standing next to the pathway that leads up to the front door, and said, 'Get the f--- out of here,' the footage, obtained by The Sacramento Bee, shows. Then, despite no reaction from Xena, who was completely motionless, the carrier grabbed a spray bottle from his bag and proceeded to spray liquid at the cat. Xena then scurried across the pathway and away from the carrier, as he repeated, 'Get the f--- out of here,' and began to approach the door. As the incident unfolded around 7 p.m. local time, Commander — an owner of two dogs and four cats — was sitting in his living room when he heard one of his dogs barking near his front door, he recalled to The Sacramento Bee. Curious, he decided to look at his Ring doorbell camera livestream, and proceeded to witness the mail carrier spray his oldest cat, seemingly unprovoked. The Rancho Cordova resident told the newspaper that he immediately got up to confront the USPS carrier, who was already in his vehicle. Despite evidence to the contrary, he denied spraying the cat. 'I asked him directly, 'Did you spray my cat?' He denied it. And then he said something about he's a cat lover himself,' Commander told The Sacramento Bee. Upon returning home, the proud pet owner found Xena covered in what he described to the newspaper as an oily, strong-smelling substance. He was worried that the spraying may have left the elderly cat with respiratory problems, particularly given her age, but she appeared unscathed and 'in good spirits,' he said.
