Maoist leader with ₹15 lakh bounty killed in Jharkhand's Gumla
The gunfight between PLFI members and security forces broke out around 9.30 pm on Tuesday in the Changabadi Upartoli area under the Kamdara Police Station limits when forces were carrying out a search operation, a senior officer said.
"As security forces reached Changabadi Upartoli, Maoists started firing at them. Security personnel also retaliated, in which PLFI area commander Martin Kerketta was killed. A weapon was also recovered from his possession," Gumla superintendent of police (SP) Haris Bin Zaman told PTI.
The Gumla SP said he had received a tip-off about the presence of some Maoists in the area, and accordingly, a special team was set up to carry out the operation.
The search operation is still going on, the SP added.

Federal law enforcement will be in marked units, the White House further said. Thursday's order comes after the executive order in March, which established the Making D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force, which aims 'to ensure effective federal participation' in enforcing immigration laws. Trump's latest order comes after Edward Coristine, known as 'Big Balls', was attacked earlier this week, and cops have said two 15-year-olds were apprehended in the matter for attempted carjacking. Despite Trump's claims about crime in DC, numbers show crime was down 35 per cent in 2024 in DC, from the previous year. This marked a 30-year-low, The Hill reported, adding that data from the district shows the downward trend continuing. Amid Trump's order, several posts on X have called for DC to be fully federalized. 'I support Trump 100% to federalize Washington DC!,' one user noted. Others, sharing the news of Trump's latest edict, said 'NEXT STEP, WE FEDERALIZE DC. TIME FOR LAW AND ORDER'.

Maoist with 8L bounty nabbed in Madanwada post encounter
Raipur: A top Maoist commander carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakh was nabbed by security forces in the insurgency-hit Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district of Chhattisgarh, following a fierce encounter in the dense forests of Khursekhurd-Khursekhala in Madanwada region. The Maoist was caught on Wednesday and police revealed the arrest on Thursday. The cadre was identified as Shrikant Punem alias Sukhnam Punem, DVC (Divisional Committee) rank Maoist of outlawed CPI (Maoist) and was serving as commander of the Aundhi-Mohla joint area committee. According to the police, the joint team of DRG and ITBP had launched a coordinated anti-Naxal operation based on credible intelligence inputs about the Maoist's presence in the forested stretch near the twin villages. The search team comprised 27 DRG personnel from Manpur, 30 ITBP jawans from Madanwada led by assistant commandant Balveer Singh (27th Battalion, D Company), and additional forces from ITBP's 44th battalion, stationed at Baseli camp. During interrogation, the captured Maoist revealed his identity as Shrikant Punem of Sawanar village of Gangaloor region in Bijapur district. Inspector general of police (IGP), Rajnandgaon range, Abhishek Shandilya and SP Y P Singh said that Punem was booked under sections of Arms Act, and unlawful activities (prevention) Act. Forces also seized arms from his possession including a nine mm ordnance factory-made pistol with magazine and four live cartridges, two empty nine mm shells and three AK-47 empty cartridges, Rs 11,080 cash and Maoist literature. UAE Refutes Sudan's Claim About Destroying Emirati Plane Carrying Mercenaries
The United Arab Emirates rejected on Thursday an announcement from Sudan's armed forces saying they had destroyed an Emirati plane carrying Colombian mercenaries. Sudan has been locked in a war between its army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April of 2023, with the military long accusing Abu Dhabi of supporting its rival. On Wednesday, army-aligned state TV said at least 40 people were killed when Sudan's air force struck an Emirati aircraft transporting mercenaries as it landed at a paramilitary-controlled airport in the war-torn Darfur region. "These unfounded allegations... are entirely false, lack any evidentiary basis, and represent a continuation of (Sudan's) ongoing campaign of disinformation and deflection," a UAE official told AFP. A Sudanese military source, speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity, had said the UAE plane "was bombed and destroyed" at Darfur's Nyala airport. State TV said the aircraft had taken off from an airbase in the Gulf, carrying dozens of foreign fighters and military equipment intended for the RSF, which controls nearly all of Darfur. Nyala airport has recently come under repeated air strikes by the Sudanese army. The army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has accused the UAE of supplying advanced weaponry, including drones, to the RSF via the airport. Abu Dhabi denies the accusations, despite numerous reports from UN experts, US political officials and international organisations. "It is particularly significant that it is one of the warring parties making these allegations as it is directly involved in the hostilities and has every incentive to manipulate the narrative," the UAE official said Thursday.
