Android phones are set to get this Apple-inspired feature, finally
Think of it like this: you're editing a document or browsing photos on your Galaxy or Pixel phone, then switch over to your Chromebook, and everything's just there. Files, notifications, even apps. It's the kind of ecosystem that's been missing from the Android world, and it could finally be on the way.
This isn't totally out of the blue. Samsung already offers some neat cross-device tricks, like sharing your keyboard, trackpad and earbuds between a phone and tablet. Google, too, has dabbled, letting you move video calls between Android and ChromeOS and share mobile data with a Chromebook. But this new Handoff feature goes further. Buried inside Android's Cross-Device Services, recently spotted by Android Authority, it hints at file syncing, app continuity and notification sharing – the trifecta of multitasking magic.
It's not live yet, but the clues are there. A newly added toggle in the beta build describes how users will be able to 'access files across your devices,' as long as they're signed in with the same Google account. Pair that with the recently spotted notification mirroring tool, and it's not hard to imagine a future where Galaxy devices talk to each other as smoothly as an iPhone and Mac.
Of course, Apple's approach benefits from total ecosystem control. Google has a tougher job juggling dozens of manufacturers and devices.
When it launches, Handoff will likely work best across Google's Pixel phones, Pixel tablets and Chromebooks. But Samsung's Galaxy ecosystem is also well-placed to take advantage, especially with the upcoming Galaxy S25 and Tab S10 likely to be first in line.
It could finally give Android users the kind of joined-up experience they've been missing. It's early days, but if Google and Samsung get this right, Apple's continuity bragging rights might not last much longer.

Are some of Google's new Pixel devices set to be delayed?
The next devices to launch from this year's upcoming phones is the Google Pixel 10 lineup. A launch event is scheduled for 20 August. It looks very much like we're getting four Pixel models this time around; the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pro XL and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Yes, we're nearing the stage where a foldable option may be coming to your favourite smartphone ranges rather than being a separate product shown off at a separate date as Samsung do. But we might not get all the Pixel 10 models at the same time. A new report from WinFuture [in German] puts forward the suggestion that Google is experiencing 'supply chain problems' that could push back the release of three new products. This includes the most premium of the new devices, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. It also says that the same will apply for the Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Buds 2a, giving the very precise launch date of 9 October 2025 for their debut in stores. If that's true, the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL will most likely have a more standard release date, perhaps on 28/29 August. And it would also be rather ironic considering Google just poked fun at Apple for the AI-infused version of Siri being AWOL – it was announced over a year ago. One thing's for sure, this year's Pixel models aren't going to look a whole lot different from their predecessors, as per a 23 July leak spotted by Android Authority. As has been the case in recent years, Google seemingly decided to short-circuit leakers by showing off the phones, via an official teaser from the Google Play Store. The Pixel 10 Pro, for example, looks almost identical to last year's Pixel 9 Pro. It has the same shape, same camera bar and same triple-lens setup.

iPhone 17 colours: here are all the options you can expect
The latest smartphones pack all manner of changes to get you to buy them. But one unsung feature upgrade is new colours. Each new phone line-up sports a new range of colours for you to pick from. It might sound like a subtle change, but it can be enough for some to upgrade their handset. I'm guilty of it, with the iPhone 14 Pro Max's purple and 15 Pro Max's Natural Titanium catching my eye. And the iPhone 17 is no different. Apple's next iPhone is set to come in a slew of different colours. Before slipping one of the flagships in your pocket, it's best to work out which colour you want to go for. Thanks to some early leaks of the iPhone 17's new colours, you'll be able to work out your Sky Blue from your Orange. iPhone 17 and 17 Air colour rumours The standard iPhone model always has more colourful options to pick from, offering a range of different designs to pick from. This has never been more true than on the iPhone 16 series, with Ultramarine and Teal standing out as particularly vibrant options. And the same is set to be true for the new iPhone 17 and 17 Air. Thanks to some leaks, it seems that Apple's upcoming iPhones will be available in some extra colours. iPhone 17 will allegedly be available in six colours: Black, White, Steel Grey, Green, Purple, and Light Blue. The new Steel Grey feels like a modern twist on Space Grey, while Purple and Green return for those who prefer a pop of colour. iPhone 17 Air, on the other hand, will allegedly come in Black, White, Light Blue, and Light Gold. According to Macworld, the Light Blue shade is said to be even softer than on the regular 17, resembling the Sky Blue finish of the M4 MacBook Air. I particularly like this Sky Blue option, and I can see it looking gorgeous on the next iPhone. iPhone 17 and 17 Air colour rumours Apple switched its Pro devices to titanium with the iPhone 15 series, and it's stuck around ever since. So it's no surprise to hear that you can expect a similar finish again – but allegedly with an added pop of colour. The iPhone 15 Pro line-up offered Natural Titanium, White Titanium, and Blue Titanium, and the 16 Pro switched out Blue Titanium for a goldish Desert Titanium. This year, Apple is reportedly going with a fresh palette. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will allegedly be available in Black Titanium, White Titanium, Natural Titanium, Blue Titanium, and an Orange option (it's titanium name is unclear for now). That new Orange would be the highlight of the set, reportedly the same International Orange shade as the Apple Watch Ultra's Action Button. Macworld, along with leakers Majin Bu and Sonny Dickson, have all corroborated this list of colours. So unless Apple throws in a surprise last minute, this is likely what we'll get.

Apple finally launched something AI – but it's not what you think
Last year, at WWDC 2024, Apple made a lot of noise about Siri finally getting a brain as part of Apple Intelligence. The smart assistant was due to get Personal Context capabilities to better understand you, your life, and your device. But, much to my disappointment, these features have been delayed until 2026. In the meantime, Apple is launching a different AI-powered tool. You'll find this feature in the Apple Support app, of all places. There's a new AI-powered chatbot coming soon, with the ability to answer any product related queries you may have. First spotted by MacRumors, the new AI tool is quietly tucked inside the Apple Support app. It's available to answer questions about why your iPad won't update or where the Bluetooth settings have gone. It's called the Support Assistant, and it's currently being tested with a small group of iPhone users who've found a new Chat button in the bottom navigation bar. Once tapped, this AI-powered assistant pops up with a splash screen that tells you how to use it. The screen makes it clear that there's no human interaction involved. It'll then happily help you troubleshoot problems, explain how your device works, and generally do the job of someone at the Genius Bar. Minus the lanyard and questionable small talk. But you won't be able to grill it about when the next MacBook Pro is arriving or whether it can fix your router. It's been trained with a very tight leash. The AI only deals with Apple support topics. Anything outside that bubble and you're out of luck. It's unclear if Apple is using one of its own AI models, or if it's piggybacking off a partner, like OpenAI's ChatGPT. To cover bases against any fumbles, Apple makes it clear that the feature is still 'experimental' and 'may make mistakes.' That's not exactly confidence-inspiring, but at least there's an option to bump the conversation to a human if the bot goes off the rails. I think that's the most important aspect, as you're not forced to talk to AI. Rather, you can pick to do so before attempting to contact the support team for faster help. There's no word on how long this preview will stick around, or when everyone else will get a go. Right now, it's just a limited rollout to select iPhone users through the Apple Support app.
