Fox tests positive for rabies in Wimberley community, HCSO says
AUSTIN (KXAN) — A fox tested positive for rabies in Wimberley on Friday, according to the Hays County Sheriff's Office.
HCSO said in a social media post that a fox 'was found exhibiting abnormal behavior' in the Palo Pinto Path in Wimberley, which is near Cypress Creek.
The agency said the fox was tested by the Department of State Health Services (DSHS), and that was when the test confirmed to be positive for the virus.
'We are asking all people to please be careful. If you come in contact with a fox please do not touch it. There has been no known human contact with this fox,' HCSO said.
If anyone in the community may have come into physical contact with the fox can call HCSO, Animal Control Unit at (512) 393-7896, the Hays County Health Department Epidemiology Department at (512) 393-5520 option 3, or DSHS Zoonosis Control at (254) 778-6744, the agency said.

Border Officials Told Not to Attend Events Tied to Diversity in Law Enforcement
The Trump administration this year ordered federal border agents and customs officers not to attend events hosted by organizations that support women or minority groups in law enforcement, according to a senior border official. Customs and Border Protection, the largest law enforcement agency in the federal government, issued a little-noticed internal memo in late March telling its officials not to attend events or conferences hosted by organizations like Women in Federal Law Enforcement and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, or NOBLE, said the senior official, Timothy Quinn. Mr. Quinn worked at the agency for nearly 12 years until he retired on Friday as a result of the policy. In an interview on Monday, Mr. Quinn said the directive was included in a broader travel advisory issued on March 28 to senior officials at the agency, who were then expected to pass along the instruction to the rank and file. The memo, which invoked President Trump's executive order banning diversity practices across the federal government, barred attendance at events or conferences 'that have a gender basis, race basis or a culture basis,' Mr. Quinn said. 'I think that's discrimination,' said Mr. Quinn, the former head of Customs and Border Protection's Office of Intergovernmental Public Liaison. 'I don't understand why we wouldn't engage with these organizations to share this kind of information.' In a statement, Tricia McLaughlin, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees Customs and Border Protection, said the agency's 'personnel are free to participate in outside groups on their own time.' 'However, C.B.P. will not use taxpayer dollars and official duty hours to fund identity-based events or programs,' Ms. McLaughlin said. Former US midfielder Benny Feilhaber hired as coach of 2nd-tier Oakland Roots
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Former U.S. national team midfielder Benny Feilhaber was hired Monday as coach of the Oakland Roots of the United Soccer League's second-tier Championship. Coach Gavin Glinton was fired earlier Monday after the team opened its league schedule with three wins, seven losses and one tie. The Roots also lost their opening match in the U.S. Open Cup to Tacoma in the third round. The 40-year-old Feilhaber scored two goals in 44 international appearances from 2007-17 and was part of the American team at the 2010 World Cup, appearing in three matches as a substitute. His tiebreaking goal on a 22-yard volley broke a 73rd-minute tie and lifted the U.S. over Mexico 2-1 in the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup final. Born in Brazil and a graduate of UCLA, Feilhaber played for Hamburg, Derby, Aarhus, New England, Kansas City and Los Angeles FC during a club career from 2006-19. Since retiring as a player, he has been an assistant coach at UCLA, Kansas City under-17 coach and head coach of Sporting KC II in third-tier MLS Next Pro.
