Kildunne to face France in final World Cup warm-up

Rangers boss Russell Martin won't let dressing-room 'mole' stop him from naming his line-ups early in future
Russell Martin insists he's 'not overly stressed' about the mole in his dressing room after the Rangers team was leaked before their Champions League qualifying win over Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday night. Unhappy with his players after a 1-1 draw at Motherwell last weekend, the Ibrox boss made the bold decision to drop skipper James Tavernier and star midfielder Nicolas Raskin for the visit of the Czech side, along with striker Danilo and attacker Kieran Dowell. His team selection, which saw new signing Oliver Antman join Jefte, Lyall Cameron and Cyriel Dessers in the starting XI, was widely known hours before kick-off. It had no bearing on the result or performance, with Rangers winning 3-0 to take a commanding lead into the second leg next Tuesday. But, asked about the supposed leak, Martin said: 'I was told when I turned up to the stadium because I'm not on any social media. I can't really control any of that. It has become more common in the modern game. 'I don't think anyone would do it from inside this building to intentionally hurt us. 'I always name the team really early as a coach or manager. It means people don't waste time or energy wondering if they're in the team and we can work on certain things. 'But it's the modern game. People are left out, they tell their agents, friends and family — then somehow it gets to the media quickly. 'I trust that no one does it to try and hurt us intentionally. I've said to the guys, it's not ideal. But I'm also not going to lose sleep over it. 'I'm not sure it changes the opposition's plan eight hours before a game as they'll have done pretty much all of their work by then, I presume. 'There's enough stuff in this job to be concerned about and to focus on all the time. 'So I'm not going to overly stress about the team being leaked.' Martin will again be without Mikey Moore, Thelo Aasgaard and Hamza Igamane for tomorrow's visit of Dundee in the Premiership. Moore — a 17-year-old loanee from Tottenham — is still waiting on international clearance, while Aasgaard and Igamane are working their way back to full fitness. Martin is hoping to have Moore available for the trip to the Czech Republic on Tuesday, adding: 'We're still not quite there with Mikey. which is frustrating for him and for us. 'Because he's deemed a minor by FIFA (he turns 18 on Monday) there's a lot of protocol to go through and we aren't there yet. 'It can take a while. He's 18 soon, so he'd be available then for us. We might have to wait until then. But hopefully we'll get him ready for Tuesday.' On Aasgaard and Igamane, the former Southampton boss said: 'They've both made good steps in the last few days. They're working hard with the rehab guys, but not ready to be involved with the squad. 'Hamza missed two weeks because of the Visa thing (problem) so was behind the group. We've tried to speed up the process so that he's ready to train. 'But he played his first minutes and picked up an injury because the intensity was different. So now we have to get him really ready to perform and not risk being injured again. 'In terms of the speculation, we've not had any bids for Hamza and he's a really good lad. 'He's got on with it and is working hard with his English and everything else. He just needs to get fully fit.'

Chelsea ratings: Estevao a Stamford Bridge star in the making but Tyrique George struggles to make an impact
ESTEVAO WILLIAN stole the show as Chelsea cruised to a win over Erik ten Hag's Bayer Leverkusen at Stamford Bridge. The Blues didn't look much like a team that had merely a few weeks off after winning the Club World Cup this summer, and were led to the win by a mighty impressive teenage sensation. 8 8 8 The scoreline perhaps didn't reflect the level of dominance in the Blues' display, as they held on to an early lead given to them by 18-year-old Estevao in the 18th minute, before fellow Brazilian boy Joao Pedro doubled their lead with a fine finish at the death. The home fans got a good look at SIX new stars making their Stamford Bridge bow, and the returning Andrey Santos, who are all expected to have a big part to play this season in the form of Liam Delap, Estevao, Jamie Gittens, Dario Essugo, Joao Pedro and Jorrell Hato. FILIP JORGENSEN - 8 A few fine saves to deny Leverkusen a first-half goal, in what was a pretty impressive all-around performance. Wasn't troubled often, if at all in the second half by Leverkusen, but was alert at all times and showed good distribution too. No complaints. MALO GUSTO - 6 Built on an impressive Club World Cup campaign with another good showing here, he seems to be really improving going forwards with some dangerous shots causing trouble for ex-Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken. Notably looks a much better player when he's allowed to overlap the right-winger, rather than inverting into midfield as Marc Cucurella does so well. Was let down on a few occasions by his final delivery into the box, when the ball was played to him on the edge, with Maresca looking frustrated with that at times. JOSH ACHAEMPONG - 7 Everyone associated with Chelsea knows that Josh Acheampong is the next up in a long line of successful Cobham graduates. Chelsea star Levi Colwill to miss almost entire season as he undergoes emergency ACL surgery in huge blow to Maresca After sporadic minutes last season, it remains to be seen how he will grow at Chelsea, but looked comfortable at centre-back today with some good tackles and interceptions, winning most of his aerial duels too. He might not be the answer to the Levi Colwill injury dilemma just yet, but he will be a big player for this club in the future when he does blossom. TREVOH CHALOBAH - 6 Trevoh Chalobah looked comfortable throughout the first 45 minutes, leading the team from the back and helping out the young Josh Acheampong next to him. He wasn't challenged a huge amount by a relatively unthreatening Leverkusen frontline, but did what he had to do well. MARC CUCURELLA - 8 8 Pre-season? What's that? You have to wonder if Marc Cucurella knows the definition, because he played this match as well as any other, at the top of his game. In fine form defensively and a real threat going forward when inverting into midfield before being subbed at half-time for Jorrell Hato. ANDREY SANTOS - 7 It was a brilliant bit of deep-lying playmaking from Andrey Santos that set up the move that saw Chelsea open the scoring early in the first half. He looked sharp in midfield, spraying balls from left to right and showing a desire to win everything in midfield next to Caicedo. His chemistry with Estevao was also evident, and he is a really impressive player in transition. MOISES CAICEDO (C) - 7 Captaining the side on their return to Stamford Bridge, it was business as usual for Moises Caicedo against Leverkusen. A heap of crunching tackles and interceptions, and a comfortable performance on the ball too before being swapped for new-boy Dario Essugo at half-time. ESTEVAO - 9 8 Estevao? More like Este-wow. Chelsea fans are already in love with their latest Brazilian star, after he scored from close range to get his first goal for the club on his debut before kissing the badge in front of the supporters. The synergy between him and Cole Palmer seemed as if the pair had been playing for the entirety of their very short careers, as the pair rotated between the right-hand side and the number ten role to inflict maximum damage on Leverkusen. His dribbling, passing range, pace and flexibility to play across the frontline with an exquisite final ball will make him a superstar at Stamford Bridge. COLE PALMER - 7 Cole Palmer wearing the number 10 shirt at Stamford Bridge just looks right, the kind of seamless transition that Eden Hazard also undertook when he went from 17 to 10. It was Palmer's effort on the half-volley rattling the crossbar that allowed Estevao to tap home from close range. He and Estevao seemed to have a great understanding from the jump, as he displayed some of the passing ability and creative talents that make him such a special player. Palmer was replaced by Pedro Neto at half-time and took a slight knock in the first half after a heavy tackle by Jarell Quansah, but played on and looked okay. TYRIQUE GEORGE - 4 It was a mixed bag of a performance from the young Tyrique George, who is rumoured to be moving away from Stamford Bridge in some form this summer. A great early cross perhaps should have rewarded him with an assist, but aside from that he failed to really get into the game or deliver any real end product - one memorable shot was lashed well over the bar. A loan move would be good for the youngster who helped save the Blues' season against Fulham last year. LIAM DELAP - 6 8 Perhaps should have opened the scoring moments before new teammate Estevao did so, after being set up to score by Marc Cucurella, but his effort was saved. His desire, physicality and work ethic were evident from the get-go, with the former Ipswich striker chasing down every lost cause and linking up well with the players behind him. SUBS: JORRELL HATO (MARC CUCURELLA, 46) - 4 Perhaps the least impressive of Chelsea's new signings, Hato looked a little rusty on first impressions at Stamford Bridge. Enzo Maresca said in the week that he would need time to adapt, and that may well be the case, as he misplaced a few passes and didn't offer what Marc Cucurella could when going forward. An extremely talented young defender, though, who will certainly improve as life goes on for him at Chelsea. DARIO ESSUGO (MOISES CAICEDO, 46) - 6 A solid showing from Moises Caicedo's new understudy as he made his Stamford Bridge debut. Looks like a classy player on the ball with a few neat passes in midfield, and was always an option at the base of midfield for the players around him. Perhaps didn't have the intensity in his game and Kante-like ability to win every ball that Moises Caicedo offers, but not many players in world football do. PEDRO NETO (COLE PALMER, 46) - 5 Showed everything you'd expect from Pedro Neto after being introduced in the second half. Lots of running and intensity, but his final ball was slightly off it as he returned to action after a very impressive Club World Cup run. Outshone by Estevao in this one, and those two look set to battle it out for a spot on the right-hand side here next season. TOSIN ADARABIOYO (TREVOH CHALOBAH, 46) - 6 Pretty much the same as Trevoh Chalobah in the first half. Didn't have a lot to do, but when called upon did his job well as he marshalled the defence and guided Josh Acheampong and Aaron Anselmino next to him. JOAO PEDRO (LIAM DELAP, 64) - 8 8 With almost half the time to make an impact on the game as what Delap had, it was Joao Pedro who won in this game in the battle to start as the number nine vs Crystal Palace on the opening day of the Premier League season. The Brazilian executed a fine finish into the bottom left corner with the final kick of the game to double Chelsea's lead, and continued the fine form he showed at the Club World Cup. JAMIE GITTENS (TYRIQUE GEORGE, 64) - 6 Chelsea fans have got another lad to be excited about here. Always ready to take on his man, he showed bursts of electric pace within moments of making his Stamford Bridge bow. It would be good to get a better look at him when the Blues take on AC Milan here on Sunday, as it just felt he didn't quite have long enough to make a real impact in terms of end product. REECE JAMES (MALO GUSTO, 65) - 7 8 Chelsea's captain continued a run of fine form with today's performance. Solid defensively, and lead the team from the back, showing composure on the ball whenever called upon. SAMUEL RAK-SAKYI (ANDREY SANTOS, 76) - 5 Looked solid in midfield, but didn't get much time on the ball with limited minutes. AARON ANSELMINO (JOSH ACHEAMPONG, 76) - 5 Didn't have much time to make an impact, and wasn't really challenged at the back. GENESIS ANTWI (ESTEVAO, 77) - 7 Chelsea's young and exciting winner will claim the assist for Joao Pedro's goal, with a good cut-back from the byline. Considering he played for such a short amount of time, was able to make the most of little minutes with a goal contribution to his name.

Chelsea finally played their first pre-season friendly as they beat Erik ten Hag 's Bayer Leverkusen with their brand new wonderkid Estevao Willian starting and scoring. Their first Premier League opponents will be Crystal Palace, for example, and Oliver Glasner 's side played their first behind-closed-doors friendly against Millwall on July 12. That was a day before Chelsea played Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup in the United States on July 13 followed by a three-week break. Here, Daily Mail Sport's Chelsea correspondent Kieran Gill reveals five things he learned from this Friday night fixture at Stamford Bridge. ESTE-WOW IS WORTH THE WAIT Chelsea's supporters had to wait a long while for Estevao Willian. Fourteen months to be exact, as it was in May 2024 when the club confirmed they had signed a Brazilian wonderkid who would arrive from Palmeiras once 18 years old. In that time, they had seen so many clips of his mercurial brilliance, including at the Club World Cup when he scored against Chelsea from what looked like an impossible angle. Here, he took 17 minutes to score for them. He spent the first half on the right wing, the second half at No 10, and for all the mocking of Chelsea's transfer strategy, this boy from Brazil seems that special type of talent for whom you would happily pay the admission fee to watch. MAD MARC IS A SCRAPPER Brighton chief executive Paul Barber held a fan Q&A session this week and when asked on Chelsea, he jokingly described them as 'my best customer' after so many sales. Marc Cucurella is no longer the £63million waste of money he was once considered, however. He is Chelsea's cult hero who does not appear to know the meaning of the word 'friendly'. Cucurella was getting stuck into Leverkusen here and when Jarell Quansah left a naughty tackle in on Palmer, who was there to give the former Liverpool defender a piece of his mind? Cucurella, of course. Rumour has it Chelsea may reward him with an updated contract soon. NO NICO, BUT CHELSEA HAVE STRIKER OPTIONS Liam Delap started as Chelsea's striker while Joao Pedro scored after coming on as a substitute. Nicolas Jackson was nowhere to be seen after Daily Mail Sport revealed he had been excluded from the squad for this friendly while the club work on selling him. If Jackson does leave as expected, Chelsea may not need to search for a emergency third-choice striker, even if Marc Guiu has been loaned to Sunderland. Maresca believes Estevao could be used as a false nine along with Palmer and Pedro Neto if need be. COVER FOR COLWILL Levi Colwill's ACL injury suffered in their first training session back in pre-season was devastating news for Chelsea given how crucial he was to their last campaign. They are considering whether they need to make a move for a central defender this month, but Josh Acheampong was used as the left-sided centre back here. It is an important position under Maresca as that player is expected to shuffle across when the left back inverts into midfield. Acheampong, 19, performed well, with Aaron Anselmino, 20, replacing him late on. Jorrel Hato can also be used as a left-sided centre back as well as a left back, which is where the £37m signing from Ajax played here after replacing Cucurella at half-time. MIDFIELD MEN HERE TO HELP There was no Romeo Lavia in the Chelsea squad after he picked up yet another injury during the Club World Cup and last season saw a heavy reliance on Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez in midfield. They needed help for the next campaign and they now have that in Dario Essugo and Andrey Santos, the 21-year-old Brazilian who last season enjoyed an excellent loan with their sister club Strasbourg in France. Santos' return for the forthcoming season is a big reason why Chelsea allowed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to leave for Everton in a £25million permanent move this week. Chelsea marked their return to action following last month's Club World Cup triumph with a 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in their penultimate pre-season outing. In a lop-sided match at Stamford Bridge, the Blues made an early breakthrough in the first half when Estevao found the net on 18 minutes.
