Groundstaff Threatens To Lodge Complaint Against Gambhir For Abusive Rant: Report
Last Updated: Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir had a heated exchange with pitch curator at The Oval. Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak intervened as and the ground staff threatened to complain. Indian men's cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir was involved in a heated exchange with pitch curator Lee Fortis at The Oval on Tuesday. Indian reporters at the scene suggest that The Oval's ground staff have threatened to lodge a complaint against the Team India head coach. WATCH: What Happened Between Gautam Gambhir And The Pitch Curator? As per reports, Gambhir looked visibly upset and was seen pointing fingers as batting coach Sitanshu Kotak had to intervene. He, too, went on to have an animated discussion with Fortis. As per visuals, Sitanshu Kotak was also seen speaking to ECB representative and the Surrey media manager. Reports indicate that the confrontation occurred in the nets when Indian bowlers were marking their run-up areas. Known for his intense on-field persona, Gambhir was seen shouting at Fortis in full public view. The exact cause of the dispute remains unclear. Gambhir was reportedly heard telling the curator, 'You don't tell me what to do". The specific issue remains unclear, but it clearly agitated Gambhir, who did not hesitate to express his displeasure. Fortis was later seen in a lengthy conversation with Kotak, likely explaining his position. Initially, the pitch curator walked away from Gambhir to speak with Kotak. However, Gambhir continued to voice his opinion, pointing fingers and confronting Fortis. Eventually, Fortis and Gambhir separated, with Gambhir returning to oversee the training session. Despite the confrontation at the nets, Gambhir remained focused on the task ahead. Speaking at the event, he acknowledged the high stakes of the final Test: 'Both teams have thrown a lot of punches and have fought for every inch. We have got one more week to go, one final push to make and one more opportunity to make our country and people out here proud." The fifth and final Test between India and England gets underway on Thursday (31 July) as Shubman Gill's team will have a chance to level the five-match series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which the hosts lead 2-1. view comments First Published: July 29, 2025, 16:14 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Gautam Gambhir's massive fight with Oval curator: ‘You don't tell us what we need to do'
The final Test of the India-England series just got spicier. Two days before the series deciding game, Indian coach Gautam Gambhir got in an argument with the Oval curator Lee Fortis. It is understood that the altercation was about the access of the playing area given to the Indian players. While there was no official reaction on the incident from either the Indian team or the Surrey Cricket County, the host, Gambhir seemed to be exchanging angry words with the curator who had allegedly questioned the presence of Indian players and coaches in a certain area of the ground. This comes after the Indian team fought with their backs to the wall against England and salvage a draw from the jaws of defeat at Old Trafford. That Test too had ended with words exchanged between England captain Ben Stokes and Indian batters like Ravindra Jadeja as the England captain tried to end the game early, apparently to 'protect his frontline bowlers'. On Tuesday, in scenes captured by India's travelling media contingent, Gambhir can be seen gesticulating and confronting the Oval chief curator Lee Fortis. In one clip, Gambhir can be heard pointing a finger at the curator and shouting 'You don't tell us what ne need to do'. India reached London on Monday and had their first training session on Tuesday. After having drawn the fourth Test at Old Trafford, India have a chance… — Press Trust of India (@PTI_News) July 29, 2025 The fifth Test could decide the fate of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy with England currently leading the series 2-1. If Shubman Gill's India manage to win the Oval Test, they could tie the series.

IND vs ENG: Arshdeep Singh all set to make his Test debut at The Oval
Manchester: India's Arshdeep Singh during a practice session ahead of the fourth test cricket match between India and England, at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground, in Manchester. (PTI Photo/R Senthilkumar) (PTI07_22_2025_000376B) India are very likely to hand a Test debut to Arshdeep Singh in the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The seamer has recovered from the hand injury which needed stitches and bowled at full tilt in the optional net session today. It is understood that the management had him in the plans for the last two Tests, but his injury made him unavailable in Manchester. With Arshdeep very likely to get into the XI, India's bowling combination is set to be rejigged once again. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep are likely to be the other two seamers, and a late call could be taken, if needed, on Jasprit Bumrah. "Playing red-ball cricket for the country is the ultimate dream of any cricketer. The same is with Arshdeep," Arshdeep's childhood coach Jaswant Rai tells " Wo pak chuka hai (He is ripe now). He should get a chance to play with the red ball. He can bring the balance that India has been looking for so long. India vs England, The Oval Test: Arshdeep Singh is fit and available for selection "He has patiently done the hard yards, and I might sound biased, but he deserves the Test cap. If not in England, then where?" With his incredible skill to swing the ball both ways and his dexterity to hit the 6m length consistently, Arshdeep Singh is arguably the best of his type India has had since Zaheer Khan. Only time will tell how well he is going to do at the Oval, but one thing is certain—he won't have a jersey fear. Poll Do you believe Arshdeep Singh will perform well on his Test debut? Yes, he will excel No, he will struggle It's too early to tell The 25-year-old has already played 63 T20Is and nine ODIs, and is a World Cup winner. Arshdeep was one of India's heroes in the T20 World Cup, the tournament's joint-leading wicket-taker with 17 dismissals to his name. It was he who bowled the 19th over in their famous T20 World Cup victory and kept things tight, conceding just 4 runs to strangle the South Africans in the final. " Asli pressure toh paanch din waala hota hai (Real pressure is playing in the five-day game)," he told in Ahmedabad, when asked about the pressure of an IPL final. Even before the selection for the England tour, his eyes were set, and in the past one month, he has worked hard on his bowling with bowling coach Morne Morkel keeping a close eye.
