Jets rookie TE Mason Taylor sidelined by high-ankle sprain
Jets second-round pick Mason Taylor won't be making his preseason debut this week. Taylor has been out of practice the last couple of days and head coach Aaron Glenn told reporters at a Tuesday press conference that the rookie is dealing with a high-ankle sprain. Glenn said that Taylor is out for at least a week as a result of the injury. Glenn also said that defensive tackle Byron Cowart has an ankle injury. Cowart was carted off at Tuesday's practice and edge rusher Will McDonald left the session with back spasms. Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor has missed practice with a knee injury, but Glenn said that the team does not believe that it is a serious issue.

Jorge Costa, who captained FC Porto to Champions League title, dead at 53
FC Porto legend Jorge Costa has died after suffering cardiac arrest on Tuesday. He was 53 years old. Costa played the majority of his professional career with the Portuguese side making 251 appearances between 1990-2005. He served as club captain and won 24 trophies, including eight league titles and the 2003 UEFA Cup and 2004 Champions League. The defender also made 50 appearances for Portugal's senior team and represented his country at Euro 2000 and the 2002 World Cup. Costa played for four other clubs — Penafiel, Maritimo, Charlton Athletic and Standard Liège — during his playing career. He would then move into management, guiding teams such as Braga, AEL Limassol and AVS, among many others. After his time at AVS ended last year, Costa returned to FC Porto to serve as the club's director of football. In a statement, FC Porto said it "expresses its deepest sadness and consternation at the passing of an inescapable figure in the club's history" and that "Jorge Costa's legacy will forever live on in the memory of all Porto fans. You will never be forgotten, Captain."

Seahawks OT Charles Cross returns to practice in limited capacity
Seattle Seahawks offensive tackle Charles Cross recently underwent surgery on a dislocated ring finger on his right hand. It was a bit of a surprise, but the instant indication was that Cross would be ready for Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers. The latest update delivered more positive news regarding his status. Cross returned to Seahawks practice during Monday's training camp session, according to various local reports. The former Mississippi State standout was seen doing individual work. Cross' three fingers were heavily wrapped together, and he did not participate in any physical team drills. The Seahawks' regular-season opener versus the San Francisco 49ers at Lumen Field is more than a month away. That offers Cross ample time to get healthy.
