Recap: LSU baseball starts regional with a win over Little Rock
LSU welcomed three teams into Baton Rouge this weekend for a regional at Alex Box Stadium. Dallas Baptist, Rhode Island, and Little Rock all entered the weekend with a shot to advance to a Super Regional. We had to wait after a lengthy weather delay, but LSU started its postseason off with a win over Little Rock.
Anthony Eyanson was chosen to make the first start of the tournament instead of Kade Anderson. Eyanson and Anderson have been 1A and 1B all year for the Tigers, so either pitcher would be able to get the job done. The Tigers got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning as Jake Brown hit an RBI single to give LSU a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the second inning, Jared Jones hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.
Eyason kept the Trojans off the board, and the lead remained 2-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning when Danny Dickinson hit a solo shot to left field to increase the lead to 3-0. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Tigers doubled their lead as Derek Curiel hit an RBI double and Dickinson hit a two-run homer to extend the lead to 6-0 for the Tigers.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Michael Braswell III hit an RBI double to increase the lead to 7-0. In the top of the eighth inning, Eyanson remained in the game. However, after retiring the first two hitters of the inning, he was pulled from the game as DJ Primeaux entered to pitch. Eyanson's day finished after 7.2 innings. He gave up zero runs on five hits, seven strikeouts, and one walk.
Mavrick Rizy entered to pitch in the top of the ninth inning as he looked to close out the victory. Rizy got two strikeouts and a groundout to end the game. With the Tigers finishing the game before 10:34 PM, Dallas Baptist and Rhode Island will play their game on Friday night. LSU will face the winner of that game tomorrow at a time to be determined.

Three LSU baseball players who need to step up in super regional against West Virginia Thanks to strategic moves from head coach Jay Johnson, LSU baseball advanced to the 2025 NCAA Tournament super regionals. Johnson switched one of his best hitters out of the two-hole and plugged in Ethan Frey, the team's hottest bat as of late, for the Tigers' rubber match against Little Rock in the regional round. The result yielded four hits, four RBI, and two walks from Frey. In addition to consistent at-bats from leadoff hitter Derek Curiel and Steven Milam, LSU knocked off the Trojans and earned the right to host West Virginia in the Baton Rouge Super Regional. At the plate and on the mound, multiple Tigers continued hot streaks at the right time. But who needs to step up their game in order for LSU to clinch a berth in the College World Series? These are the three LSU players who must improve their performances in the super regional. Jared Jones Jones underperformed this far in the postseason. He went five for 20 in the Baton Rouge Regional, including an 0-5 showing with three strikeouts against Dallas Baptist. Johnson moved the slugger to sixth in the lineup after he occupied the two-hole much of the year. With a trip to Omaha on the line, Jones needs to find his way out of his first large slump of the season. West Virginia's pitching staff, also seemingly hitting a low, gave up a combined 14 runs over the last two games of the Clemson Regional. Jake Brown Often the middle man of the lineup, Brown went quietly through the regional. He batted .250 with just one extra base hit, which followed a hitless SEC Tournament. Brown's slump follows a six-game hit streak to end the regular season, and he experienced some streakiness throughout the conference slate. He must channel the confidence he felt during the South Carolina and Arkansas series in mid-May. Zac Cowan Cowan can go nowhere but up after his postseason showing so far. Over his last 6.2 innings, his ERA is 14.85. In a start Monday against Little Rock, he exited in the second inning after allowing four earned runs on three hits and two walks. For most of the regular season, Cowan was the SEC's best reliever. He may have been out of his element on Monday and experiencing command issues as of late in his first postseason with LSU. The talent is still there and must come through if the Tigers need to keep a game within reach during the super regional.

CBS Sports decides what Clemson football must do to be successful in 2025 The start of the 2025 college football season is 79 days away -- and 86 days until the Clemson Tigers host LSU in Death Valley at Memorial Stadium on Aug. 30. As we count down the days until then, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is holding his annual summer camp, offensive line coach Matt Luke is busy lighting things up on the recruiting trail with the 2026 signing class, and the Tigers have landed their first official commitment for 2027. All great news, but what about the 2025 season? Clemson has a stacked roster that is looking to build off a 10-win campaign that included an ACC championship and a trip to the College Football Playoff. The biggest concern the Tigers have is not at quarterback; not after Cade Klubnik's meteoric rise in 2024 (3,639 passing yards, 36 TDs, six INTs). It's not at wide receiver, either. The Tigers have bonafide studs in senior Antonio Williams, plus young sensations Bryant Wesco and T.J. Moore at the position. The defense is anchored up front by linemen T.J. Parker and Peter Woods, and Avieon Terrell shores things up in the secondary. The consensus is that the Tigers' biggest question mark heading into the 2025 season is at running back, where they'll have to replace senior Phil Mafah. On Thursday, CBS Sports' Brad Crawford wrote about one area every team in his post-spring top 25 must address to be successful in 2025. For Clemson, it's finding comfort in the run game. Crawford said: "Find comfort in run game: Tabbed by a few to be college football's top team this fall, Clemson is loaded on both sides with perhaps its best roster since Dabo Swinney's last national championship team. That said, the Tigers are inexperienced in the backfield with freshman Gideon Davidson, third-year sophomore Jay Haynes and redshirt freshman David Eziomume expected to share the load at running back after Phil Mafah's departure. This will be a pass-happy team with Cade Klubnik, but offensive coordinator Garrett Riley needs to be able to breathe easy in short-yardage situations, too." Mafah rushed 216 times for 1,115 yards (5.2 AVG) and eight touchdowns a season ago. It's the second straight year that Clemson will have to replace its starting tailback from the previous season after Mafah took over for the versatile Will Shipley after 2023. Clemson and LSU will meet in prime time at 7:30 p.m. ET on Aug. 30. The game will be televised on ABC. Rijo and Arkansas softball knocked out of NCAA Tournament by Ole Miss
FAYETTEVILLE, A.R. (WETM) – A great season has come to an end for one local grad. (Photo Courtesy: Arkansas Razorbacks Athletics) Corning's Atalyia Rijo and the Arkansas Razorbacks softball team had their Women's College World Series dreams dashed, on Sunday. While hosting a Super Regional, Arkansas fell in the decisive 3rd game to Ole Miss 7-4. After an outstanding start to the NCAA Tournament, Rijo was held without a hit for the 2nd-straight game. Prior to Saturday's win, the standout junior had gone 10 for 14, with 4 runs, 4 RBI, 1 home run, and 13 total bases. Advertisement Despite the Razorbacks falling short of their 1st Women's College World Series appearance, the season will stand as a career best for Rijo. The Hawks grad closes out the year with career highs in hits (50), runs (28), RBI (38), doubles (10), triples (2), home runs (6), walks (13), and total bases (82).
