Maoists kill civilian, surrendered cadre in Bijapur ahead of Amit Shah's visit
RAIPUR: Day ahead of UnionHome Minister Amit Shah's visit to Chhattisgarh, Maoists gave a grim reminder of the ongoing insurgency in Bastar region by killing two civilians on Saturday night in the Bijapur district.
The victims included a former Maoist commander who had recently surrendered to police.
Five armed Maoists entered Sendrambore and Ampur villages in Pamed region around 8 PM on June 21 and they targeted Veko Deva alias Sandeep, a former section commander of the Maoists' 2nd Company Platform Party Committee Member (PPCM) who had surrendered recently, and Sunnam Sammiah, a village committee member from Jaralli Revolutionary People's Committee (RPC).
Both were allegedly killed by strangulation, on suspicion of being police informers.
Initial reports suggest that the victims were strangled to death. The police have confirmed receiving information about the incident and dispatched teams for verification.
Bijapur SP Jitendra Yadav confirmed, 'We have received credible input. A team has been sent to the location to confirm the details.'
The killings took place in a sensitive area close to Telangana border, just 10 km from the Pamed police station and about seven km from Dharmavaram security camp, which came under attack last year by the Maoists' Battalion 1 of the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA).

This killing spree coming just days after three other civilians were slain in the same district is seen as a desperate attempt by the Maoists to assert presence amid their declining influence.

Man sentenced for 'rape' with minor wife acquitted
Bhopal: A division bench of the MP High Court acquitted a person sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by a POCSO court on charges of 'raping' his wife when she was a minor. Holding marriage with a minor as illegal and a physical relationship with the girl as rape, the trial court sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. Hearing his appeal, the division bench of the MP High Court, however, held that the girl was an adult and set aside the trial court order. The petition filed by the accused, belonging to Khandwa town of MP, said that he had a relationship with the girl in question and they eloped on May 18, 2020. They got married in a temple. The girl's father lodged a report about his missing daughter with the police. When the police recovered the girl, she was pregnant. During the trial against him in the POCSO court, the girl told the court that she was 20 years of age. She further said that her father demanded Rs 5 lakh from her husband to drop the complaint against him, and when he couldn't meet the demand, he lodged a police complaint against him. She further said in the court that she studied up to class V at a school and her age was ascertained from school records. Mathura man held for supplying drone to Naxals
Lucknow: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday arrested a key accused in a case related to a CPI (Maoist) conspiracy to revive its Northern Regional Bureau (NRB), which covers Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. The arrested accused, Vishal Singh, originally from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended from West Delhi. During a search of his residence, the NIA recovered multiple digital devices, including hard drives, pen drives, and mobile phones, along with other incriminating material. According to the NIA, Singh is an active member of the banned CPI (Maoist) and supplied a drone to the outfit's leaders in the Chhakarbanda/Panchrukhiya forest region of Bihar. He is also accused of providing technical training to cadres and participating in secret meetings with central committee members in Bihar's forested areas in 2019. The case registered in the NIA's Lucknow unit in 2023 pertains to a larger Maoist plan to reactivate its presence in North India through covert recruitment and support from urban operatives, including Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and front organisations posing as activists or student groups. These groups reportedly received funding from the outfit's Eastern Regional Bureau, mainly based in Jharkhand. In August 2024, the NIA earlier arrested Ajay Singhal alias Aman, the in-charge of the Maoists' State Organising Committee for Haryana and Punjab. Investigations in the case are still underway, said sources in the central agency.
