Walking Dead Star Kelley Mack's Death Was Very Unexpected

On Tuesday, the sad news broke that actor Kelley Mack had died at the age of 33 — just seven months after being diagnosed with glioma of the central nervous system, which is a type of cancer. Kelley's sister confirmed that she had died on Saturday in an emotional Instagram post that was shared to her profile. 'It is with indelible sadness that we are announcing the passing of our dear Kelley. Such a bright, fervent light has transitioned to the beyond, where we all eventually must go,' the post began. 'Kelley passed peacefully on Saturday evening with her loving mother Kristen and steadfast aunt Karen present.' 'Kelley has already come to many of her loved ones in the form of various butterflies 🦋 ❤️. She will be missed by so many to depths that words cannot express,' the post went on. 'She would want you all to know how much she loves you. And as her sister, I want you all to know how brave that tough SOB was, especially when she decided to make the leap to be reunited with God. I'm so fucking proud of her.' And now, Kelley's reps have confirmed that the star's death was a complete shock, and that she'd been auditioning as recently as June. The rep told People that they were 'totally surprised' by Kelley's death, adding: 'We had no idea the turn it took and it was very unexpected.' TMZ was the first to report this, with this publication also stating that Kelley had a 'nice recovery' after undergoing treatment for glioma in February before relapsing shortly before her death. She is said to have told her team she needed to take a break from auditioning in early July. Kelley shared her cancer diagnosis with her Instagram followers on Jan. 3, where she explained that she started suffering 'persistent lower back pain' in September. She added: 'A few weeks later, I had neuropathic itching in my right quad. And then, the shooting pains in my legs and back began, which resulted in me having to sleep in a recliner for a month because laying down was too painful. On Thanksgiving Eve, I had emergency MRIs done at the hospital, which revealed an abnormal mass in my spinal cord. Fast forward to now - I have been diagnosed with #diffusemidlineglioma, an extremely rare type of #astrocytoma #cancer. Due to the biopsy surgery on my spinal cord, I have lost the use of my right leg and most of my left leg, so I now get around with a walker and a wheelchair.' "I am determined and know that this will eventually be a short chapter in my long book," she poignantly added at the time. "The positivity, love and prayers that are being sent my way already is overwhelming and I feel it all. Thank you so much ❤️❤️" On March 14, Kelley revealed that she had finished proton radiation treatment and been undergoing physical therapy. She wrote: 'Overall, this journey has not been easy, but things are getting better — improvements are tough to see when you're in the thick of it.' And on March 26, the star shared a video of herself proudly walking up some stairs with assistance, saying that 'it's a big deal' for her. Kelley was best known for playing Addy in Season 9 of The Walking Dead, starring in five episodes between 2018 and 2019. The show's director and other stars are among those to have paid tribute to Kelley since news of her death broke. Kelley also played Penelope Jacobs in Chicago Med, and appeared in 9-1-1. A recognition and remembrance of Kelley's life will be held in her home state of Ohio on Aug. 16, and her family are also planning a celebration of life in Los Angeles for Kelley's friends and colleagues in the area.

And Just Like That: Carrie Rewrites Her Love Story's Final Chapter Ahead of Next Week's Series Finale

With Aidan back in Virginia and Duncan back in London, Carrie couldn't help but wonder if her love story had reached its final page this week on And Just Like That. It's Thanksgiving, and Carrie orders a bunch of pies from a salty local baker — hi, Jackie Hoffman! — before taking a nostalgic stroll down her old street. She runs into Lisette, the girl who bought her old apartment, and Lisette invites her to a pre-Thanksgiving party at her old place. Carrie isn't sure… but from the wistful way she looks at her old stoop, we're thinking she'll take any excuse to come back. She has one question, though: Where's the last chapter? Carrie says she turned in the full book, and the editor doesn't love the idea of ending with the woman alone: 'I'm a happy ending gal.' Carrie doesn't think the woman ending up alone is that tragic — and she's not just speaking for her character here — but the editor insists: 'In 1846, when this takes place, a woman alone would be a tragedy.' Carrie complains to Miranda and Charlotte that her editor wants her to add an epilogue, 'something that makes the reader feel good at the end.' Carrie likes the ending as it is, though, and she doesn't know what a new ending would even look like. She gets another jolt when Seema tells her that the owners of the apartment below her want to know if Carrie wants to buy it. Duncan is gone, after all, and he's not renewing his lease. Carrie says she doesn't need any more space — and then she confesses: 'Why am I so upset right now?' She kind of thought Duncan might come back, and without Aidan, the house feels empty: 'I bought it with a plan, and it didn't happen.' So she goes to Lisette's party, eager to see her old apartment again. But it's not like she remembered: Lisette added a wall so she could bring in a roommate, and Carrie marvels at how different the place looks. Lisette admits she hates living alone, and asks Carrie if she's ever scared of what might happen to her in that big house all alone. 'I'm more scared of what's already happened to me,' Carrie quips, and she heads back to that big empty house, sitting down to write an epilogue for her book. In it, the woman finds a letter inviting her to a party where she could meet a handsome widower: 'The woman folded the paper, intrigued.' So maybe Carrie's story isn't over yet after all. Elsewhere in the episode: * Miranda stepped over all kinds of boundaries by inviting Brady's baby mama Mia to Thanksgiving dinner… and not even telling him! Brady was furious, of course, and demanded that Miranda call Mia and uninvite her. He referred to Mia as 'some random girl I got pregnant,' too, so we're probably not getting a happy ending here, either. (Sorry, Carrie's editor.) * Charlotte's child Rock starred in a school production of Thoroughly Modern Millie, and they brought down the house tap-dancing in a glittery red dress — and Charlotte got emotional mourning the idea of the traditional feminine daughter she always pictured Rock becoming. Carrie took a picture of Rock on stage and sent it to Charlotte… but Charlotte ended up tearfully deleting it. * Seema and Adam kept getting closer with some frisky shower sex, and they even said 'I love you' to each other! They'll be spending Thanksgiving together, too, with Adam's sister. * Speaking of relationship milestones: Giuseppe got down on one knee in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room and proposed to Anthony, who happily said yes. Anthony later confessed to some jitters to Carrie, though. He felt like he had to say yes, he told her, and she could relate, after she said yes to Aidan's proposal all those years ago. (Remember that, Sex and the City fans?) * Lisa's husband Herbert was still sulking after his election loss, and he even started working from home to avoid people giving him pitying looks. Lisa tried to give him a pep talk, but he just waved her off. Hmmm… we hope he didn't just send her running into the arms of that hunky editor of hers, Marion. * Harry didn't want to go to Miranda's for Thanksgiving, and he later admitted to Charlotte why: When he was diagnosed with cancer, he kept telling himself to 'just make it to Thanksgiving,' picturing a perfect holiday at home with his family. So Charlotte promised to give him just that. Does that mean, though, that we won't see Charlotte with Carrie and Miranda in next week's series finale? Say it ain't so! Carrie's Future Is Uncertain in the Penultimate Episode of 'And Just Like That'

Spoilers below. The latest episode of And Just Like That… hits a little different today, knowing that the series is coming to an end in a week's time. It's possible that, at the time the show was being written or filmed, the team didn't know that this would be the final season. But it's unfortunate that the penultimate episode of an iconic franchise that just can't die has to be this bland. At just half an hour, it makes me wonder whether events were split between this and next week's finale, rather than crammed into one supersized episode. But once the credits began rolling on season 3, episode 11, I caught myself saying aloud, 'That's it?' After Carrie finally gets together with her neighbor and writing partner Duncan in the previous episode, he's nowhere to be found. The show jumps ahead to Thanksgiving, as Carrie is ordering pies at her favorite bakery for the dinner Miranda is hosting. The errand has brought her back to her old neighborhood, which leads her to stroll down her old street and run into Lisette, the stylish jewelry designer who now lives in Carrie's old apartment. Carrie jokes that she wants her place back, but the closest she'll get to moving in again (for now) is an invite to a party with Lisette and her friends. Carrie's future is a little up in the air at this point. That's clear in the semi-autobiographical historical novel she hands in. Her publisher loves it, but believes it's missing a final chapter. Carrie's protagonist, 'the woman,' ends the story alone after the love of her life dies. That might be normal in 2025, but it would've been a tragedy in 1846, when the story is set. So now Carrie must write an epilogue that 'makes the reader feel good' and reflects her own journey, too. Will she end the series with a new love interest or continue to fly solo? Will she stay in her new apartment, move back, or find a new place that's just right? Anthony also finds himself facing a big question. While shopping at Bergdorf's, Giuseppe gets down on one knee and proposes in the dressing room. Anthony tearfully says yes. It seems like happily ever after for the bread-baking duo, but Anthony later reveals that he's having second thoughts. He only accepted the proposal because he can't say no to Giuseppe. Given their age gap, Anthony doesn't know if he's supposed to 'marry him or mommy him.' Speaking of moms, Miranda is excited to host Thanksgiving, and gets a little too eager and invites Mia, the mother of Brady's child (played by Ella Stiller, Ben Stiller's daughter). After last week's disastrous encounter at the hair salon, it's surprising Miranda still wants to forge a relationship with this woman—and Brady is understandably angry at her for inviting Mia behind his back. Seema is also fretting about her Thanksgiving plans. She's set to meet Adam's sister—a big step in their relationship—on the holiday, although Adam tries to downplay the event. (He doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving.) Meanwhile, Harry's also in his feels and doesn't want to go to Miranda's dinner. He reveals to Charlotte that when he was first diagnosed with cancer, one thing he kept telling himself was that he wanted to 'make it to Thanksgiving,' and now that it's finally here, he wants to be able to celebrate it with his family in a more intimate way. Charlotte hears him out and wonders why he didn't tell her sooner. Besides, Charlotte is more concerned about her child Rock's school production of Thoroughly Modern Millie. Rock is playing the titular role in the musical, and the first time Charlotte sees them in full costume—makeup, wig, and all—she's overcome with emotion. Rock is wearing blush and a bright red flapper dress as they step out of the bathroom. They appear before Charlotte in a glowy haze, walking in slow motion. Charlotte later tells her friends that she thought Rock looked so grown-up and 'pretty' in that moment, but she didn't know if she's allowed to say that to her nonbinary kid. The night of the play, Charlotte watches Rock sing and dance in awe. (For what it's worth, Rock makes a great theater kid!) Notably, the number they're shown performing is 'Forget About the Boy,' which mirrors Charlotte's own desire to forget about Rock's nonbinary identity. I get that Charlotte probably dreamed of having another daughter, but it feels a little weird to see her impose this feminine identity on her child, wishing they were something they aren't. After everything both Rock and Charlotte have gone through the past three seasons, shouldn't Charlotte be a more supportive parent by now? Herbert is grieving too, as he's reminded of his election loss with every parent he faces at the school. Well-wishers try to comfort him for losing to a 'community activist in bad shoes.' (Interesting timing as this season coincides with another high-profile New York election.) When Carrie gets to Lisette's place, she realizes some changes have been made. There is a wall splitting the unit in half (so much for the renovation Aidan did all those years ago), with Lisette living on one side and her roommate in the other. This isn't the home she once knew. This episode makes clear that Carrie's new apartment in Gramercy is now too big for her. She initially got it hoping to start a life with Aidan, but that didn't work out. And now Duncan has, rather unceremoniously, moved out of the basement unit too—off to resume his life in London. Seema mentions that Carrie should buy the bottom-floor unit because Duncan is not coming back, and she'll get more for it when she resells the full property. Carrie isn't sure she's ready for that yet. But it's not like she's going to move back to her old place, which is now unrecognizable. So she keeps writing. There are a lot of loose ends waiting to be tied up in the finale, like: Seema meeting Adam's family; whether Charlotte finally comes to terms with Rock's identity; whether Miranda, Brady, and Mia form a new family unit; and whether Lisa makes any lifestyle changes to embrace better work-life balance. Most of all, the ending of And Just Like That... will reveal 'the woman''s fate, and Carrie's own.
