Driver of stolen vehicle in Sudbury clocked at 170 km/h on Falconbridge Rd.
A 30-year-old man is facing numerous charges, including driving while suspended and violating probation, after leading Sudbury police on a chase in a stolen SUV on Saturday.
Police were alerted to the case when a 911 caller at 10:45 a.m. said a red SUV was being driven aggressively on the Kingsway.
'Further information provided was that this vehicle had struck another vehicle on the side of the road and fled the area,' police said in a news release Monday.
Five minutes later, another caller said the same vehicle was now on Falconbridge Road heading to Garson.
Cornered him in Falconbridge
'Witnesses described the vehicle to be travelling at 170 km/h and was being driven in the oncoming lane,' police said.
'Officers located the vehicle in Garson. The driver continued to drive through stop signs and drove to a private property in Falconbridge.'
Sudbury police were able to block him in and prevent him from driving away.
'Officers directed the driver to exit the vehicle; however, the driver refused,' the news release said.
'The driver was removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest. Through the investigation, it was determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen from the downtown core earlier in the day.'
The 30-year-old suspect, who has no fixed address, has been charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, three counts of violating probation, one count of failing to comply with a release order, driving while suspended, and three counts of driving through a stop sign.
He appeared in weekend bail court, police said, and was released.

Hamilton Police Service investigating shooting at short-term rental in Flamborough
An address in Flamborough was photographed on July 7, 2025 as Hamilton Police Service investigates a shooting. (Dave Pettitt/CTV News) At least one person has been seriously hurt in a shooting in Flamborough. The Hamilton Police Service was called to a party at a short-term rental property on Highway 6 near Concession Road 6 West on Sunday around 3:20 a.m. Police said one person was taken to hospital with serious injuries. 'They are currently in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries,' Det. Const. Dan Jaworski, a member of the Hamilton Police Service's shooting response team, told CTV News on Monday. Police have not released any suspect information. They believe approximately 200 to 300 people were at the event at the property. 'We've had very little cooperation with members of the public who were in attendance at this event. At this time, we're asking for anybody who was there to contact us – contact the shooting response team of the Hamilton Police Service to provide that information. At this point, we unfortunately don't have the ability to provide any suspect description or vehicle description,' Jaworski said. People who live nearby were also asked to check their video surveillance systems for any unusual activity on Sunday morning. Previous fatal shooting investigation at same address This was not the first time police were called to the Flamborough address. In June 2024, officers began investigating the fatal shooting of a 45-year-old man, later identified as Tobenna Obiaga. He was found on the shoulder of Highway 6 in a bullet-riddled Mercedez Benz. Investigators later discovered multiple shots had been fired at a house party at the short-term rental property. Four to five people were believed to be involved, and multiple injuries were reported. No link between the shooting Police do not believe the current investigation has any relation to last year's incident, but are concerned about the use of guns in both cases. 'Anybody who's using these firearms in the commission of an offence is not concerned, or they're not taking the time to consider, what's going to happen once they pull the trigger,' Jaworski said. The rental property no longer appears on major rental property sites. Police said they want to work with community partners to try and prevent similar situations in the future. 'Whether it's beyond enforcement action, we're certainly considering all of our options to ensure that our community members feel safe and that this doesn't happen again,' Jaworski said.
