MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Wednesday marks the third day of the murder trial for the man charged with killing his ex-girlfriend, an Ansonia mother.
Christine Holloway's body was found in her home on Dec. 2, 2019, after she failed to show up at the daycare where she worked and where her 1-year-old daughter Vanessa also went each day. Vanessa has been missing since the killing.
Day 2: Jury in Jose Morales trial hears about 'red stuff' and letter found in donation bin
Jose Morales, 48, pleaded not guilty to the murder charge. He told police he was high on PCP as he saw men running towards the door of Holloway's Ansonia home, then he was punched in the face as he tried to call 911.
On Tuesday, workers from the nonprofit Community Crusade for Children- known as Kiducation during that time- said they found a Diaper Genie and other items covered in 'red stuff' in a clothing donation bin two days after Holloway's body was found.
A supervisor with Kiducation said she immediately called police when was found a letter addressed to Holloway in the bags.
Day 1: Trial begins for man accused of killing Christine Holloway
The jury was also shown graphic images. On Monday, they saw body camera footage of the welfare check police conducted when Holloway didn't show up to work. It was during their visit to her home they found the crime scene.
Since Monday, several law enforcement officials have testified about the day and the condition of the home and Holloway's body when they found it.
The trial is expected to last about a month.

Bullets, graffiti hinder restoration work on historic Michigan lighthouse
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A northern Michigan group is working to restore a historic lighthouse. Now, they're not only fighting Mother Nature and Father Time, but an alleged vandal, as well. Erin Griebe, the chairperson of the , says volunteers first noticed bullet holes in the lamp room last fall. 'That's very expensive glass to replace. It's all custom because this is a very old historic building, and once the integrity of the glass is disrupted with bullet holes, you have to make those repairs,' Griebe . Volunteers made those repairs but noticed new ones a few weeks ago. Frankfort Police Chief Mark Ketz said it's clear this is not an 'isolated incident.' In addition to the bullet holes, the lighthouse has long been a target of graffiti. 'It's just years and years of build up and paint and, you know, if we're going to spend all this money, donated money to entirely clean this down to the bare metal and then restore it to pristine condition, is this just going to happen again?' Ketz said. The restoration project was estimated to cost $1.1 million in 2022. Griebe already knows the costs will surpass that estimate and wants to avoid any other unnecessary work. 2 motorcycles collide with pickup truck in Waterbury
WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — Waterbury police say no life-threatening injuries were suffered when two motorcycles collided with a pickup truck on South Main Street Thursday evening. The crash happened in the area of Platts Mill Road around 6:21 p.m. The pickup truck initially fled the scene, but officers located it a short time later. $500K Fast Play lottery ticket sold in Ansonia Police said one of the motorcycles had a solo rider who was not injured. The other motorcycle had two adult riders- a male driver and female passenger. Both were transported to hospitals, the male with serious injuries and the female with non-life threatening injuries. Rochester community unites in support as search for missing 5-year-old continues
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – The search for 5-year-old Zy'Jae St. Pierre continued along the Genesee River for a fifth day Thursday. The young boy fell from the Andrews Street bridge Sunday afternoon, according to Rochester police. Earlier this week, police deemed their efforts a recovery mission. Search efforts continue for 5-year-old who fell in the Genesee River, declared 'recovery operation' In an update Thursday afternoon, the Rochester Police Department shared they were still unable to locate St. Pierre despite ongoing efforts. The department credited assistance from RG&E in helping to control and redirect the river during the search, including lowering the water level between the Andrews St. bridge and High Falls. Police say St. Pierre was walking with his mother, who was pushing another child in a stroller, when he ran ahead of her. Witnesses said he climbed the railing, and before his mother could reach him, he fell over. Police say she ran along the waterway and was unable to reach the boy before he left her sight. Balloons, candles, and toys now line the span of the bridge. News 8's Natalie Kucko spoke to community members there, who are continuing to show their support for the family. 'They were very happy. It was a very happy family. He used to go outside and play, things like that. He was a very good little boy. Good memories. It's devastating,' said Nichelle Beale, a former neighbor of the family. 'I want him to be found and I want justice. I want the family to be at peace, and to know where he is and not to wonder every night.' Outside Rochester City Hall Thursday, community members shared a call on the city in the wake of this tragedy. 'We're calling for the city of Rochester to put up a higher gate on not just that bridge, but any bridge, whether it's over water, or a highway. We want to prevent this tragedy from every happening again to any family. There's no words to express what they're going through,' said Marquita Ladd, a Rochester resident. News 8 spoke with Rochester Mayor Malik Evans for his response to those concerns. 'I think it's admirable the community is concerned about families' safety and that's what this is about — and we'll go back and look to see if there's anything that can be done from preventing a tragedy in the future. Right now, the focus is to make sure the family has what they need. But more importantly, the recovery is what we're focusing on right now and we will continue to be focused on that until we get some closure for this family,' said Evans. At this time, community members like Beale continue to visit Andrews Street to reflect. 'It hurts. Because if it was my child, I'd be hurt, too. I wouldn't know what to do,' Beale said, 'Embrace your kids every day and let them know you love them every day.' The Rochester Police Department plans to resume search efforts Friday morning. The department continues to ask for awareness from local boaters and fishermen in an effort to locate St. Pierre. Two GoFundMe accounts have been created to assist the family during this time.
