Van Poortvliet's last minute try seals dramatic series win for England in Argentina
Argentina led 17-14 at half-time and despite heavy England pressure in their 22, George Ford's penalty was the only points scored in the first 39 minutes of the second period until Van Poortvliet scampered over from a fine break by Guy Pepper.
Centre Seb Atkinson and full-back Freddie Steward scored tries as England, without a host of regular players who are on tour with the British & Irish Lions in Australia, completed a memorable series win.
England had lost hooker and co-captain Jamie George on the morning of the game after he was called into the Lions squad.
Centre Lucio Cinti and wing Ignacio Mendy scored tries for Argentina, who had to weather heavy England pressure in the second half and could not see the game out for at least a draw.
Argentina No 8 Pablo Matera did become the most capped player in his country's history in his 111th appearance, though it was marked with a second-half yellow card.
The tourists made a fast start and had a try inside four minutes. Ford's pinpoint crossfield kick was plucked form the air by Tom Roebuck, who fed debutant Luke Northmore before the latter put fellow centre Atkinson in for the score.
England were reduced to 14 players when Ben Curry was penalised for a high tackle and after Santiago Carreras landed a penalty for the home side, they hit back with a try.
Scrum-half Simón Benítez Cruz managed to hold on to a loose ball and following his darting run, he released Cinti to dot down.

England showed excellent handling skills to score their second try as they moved the ball first one way and then the next, pulling Argentina defenders into a narrow formation and allowing Steward to canter over in the left corner.
Argentina scored their second try on the stroke of half-time as Steward failed to deal with a chip over the England backline as the ball nicked the post and fell kindly for Mendy to dot down for a 17-14 lead.
Ford's penalty was reward for heavy English pressure early in the second half as he levelled the score. Argentina were having difficulty with their exits from their own 22, which meant they were constantly under pressure, and it tolled as Pepper broke and fed Van Poortvliet to snatch victory at the death.

‘The dog ate my passport': All Blacks rookie sorts pet's mess to rescue debut
Leroy Carter was still coming to terms with his inclusion in the All Blacks squad to play in Argentina in the opening rounds of the Rugby Championship when he made the shocking discovery. 'The dog ate my passport.' The utility back with the Hamilton-based Chiefs was one of four uncapped players included in Scott Robertson's Championship squad. The phone call from Robertson informing him of his selection had come as a massive surprise. Carter was rushing to get things together for the squad's assembly and departure when he realised the family dog had intercepted his passport. 'I got my passport out to take a photo to send to the [team] manager and I just left it on my bedside table,' Carter said. 'My partner went to the gym and left my dog home alone and it's gone down the hallway, jumped on the bed and just chewed up the passport and my teeth aligners. 'It was a bit of a shambles yesterday. I was trying to get an emergency one but I think it's all [sorted] now. I thought it would happen to me, something like that, so no point getting stressed about it.' The All Blacks squad leaves on Friday to play Argentina in Cordoba on 17 August and Buenos Aires a week later in the first two rounds of the Rugby Championship which also includes Australia and South Africa.

Ireland coach Steenson coy on post-World Cup future
Gareth Steenson says he is unsure of his future with the Ireland women's team beyond the World Cup. The former Exeter Chiefs fly-half has been working as the team's kicking coach under Scott Bemand for the past year alongside his duties as City of Armagh's backs coach. But with Johnny Sexton having started his full-time position with the Irish Rugby Football Union - which will include work in both the men's and women's programmes - on 1 August, Steenson was coy on what the future holds for him beyond the World Cup in England. "My future is I'm involved with going to the World Cup, so post-that it will be a matter of seeing where we are post-World Cup really," said the 41-year-old, who won a European Cup and two Premiership titles during his 12-year spell with the Chiefs."I've been fortunate since I moved back home a year ago, to work with the pathway, work with the Sevens and right across that kicking regime."I've been very lucky since the Six Nations, doing a little bit more with the backs, a bit more work in that area, looking at strike plays and stuff like that. "I've been very fortunate to be part of the growth piece as well, so all the focus has been getting to this World Cup and now that we're on the brink of it it's been really exciting."When asked if his and Sexton's roles will overlap, Steenson said: "Again, I know my role. My role is being in with the girls, I've been in here a year, and how that looks going forward...I've been working with these girls for the last year or so."We'll see when Johnny comes back."
