NDA govt improved medical services in State: Yadav
Guntur: Minister for Medical and Health Satya Kumar Yadav said the coalition government streamlined the medical services at the government hospitals in the State during the last one year. He addressed the media in Amaravati on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, he explained how the coalition government improved the medical services at the government general hospitals in the State.
He said outpatient numbers increased at the GGHs and the State was moving towards 'Arogya Andhra Pradesh.' Infrastructural facilities have been improved. There is rise in accountability in medical staff.
He said the Centre released Rs 100 crore prize for implementing the 30 schemes of National Health Mission in the State during the year 2024-2025.
He further said that the government increased the capacity of diagnostic centres in the GGHs to render better services. The Health Minister said the coalition government was planning to conduct medical tests at the doorsteps of the patients through 104 vehicles.
Special Chief Scretary (Medical and Health) M T Krishna Babu was also present.

'New lease on life': IVRI makes history with successful indigenous hip transplant for dogs in India; reduces cost to Rs 30K
BAREILLY: The scientists at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) achieved a milestone by successfully performing the first hip transplant surgery using indigenous technology in the country. This hip transplant is notable for being entirely developed with local technology. Until now, artificial hips for dogs were not available in India and had to be imported, costing at least Rs 5 lakhs. For nearly three years, IVRI scientists, Dr Rohit Kumar and his team, conducted a comprehensive study to develop not only a cemented hip suitable for Indian dogs but also the necessary instruments. Dr Kumar and his team took on this challenge, initially seeking insights from renowned human orthopaedic surgeon Dr Alok Singh. With technical assistance from Dr Singh and Bareilly Medicare Firm's Yogesh Saxena and Devesh Saxena, Life Ortho Care in Gujarat helped in developing the artificial hip and its instruments for dogs. Dr Rohit Kumar mentioned that the developed hip is quite affordable, allowing dog owners in the country to receive excellent treatment at a lower cost in the future. Saw many surgeries in humans, developed all the dimensions on our own by taking multiple x-rays of the dogs. The cost of implant during the experimentation phase is between 25k-30k and even after commercialisation, the cost of hip replacement surgery would be very affordable. The best thing about it is that everything is developed and manufactured in India.' The technical design and dimensions were assigned to Dr T Sai Kumar for MVSc research and Dr Kamlesh Kumar for PhD research. This work was carried out under the AINP-DIMSCA (All India Network Programme on Diagnostic Imaging for Surgical Conditions in Animals) project by the team of Dr Rohit Kumar, Dr Amarpal, Dr A C Saxena, and Dr AM Pawde. Dr Amarpal said, 'This is the first time such a study was systematically conducted in the country, with the first surgery performed in Dehradun, the second in Bareilly, and the third on a police dog in Sambhal, giving them a new lease on life." On this achievement, IVRI's Director Dr Triveni Dutt lauded the collective efforts of the entire team and encouraged making this technology available to dog owners nationwide and transferring it to the industry as soon as possible.

Tamil Nadu health secretary directs official to oversee construction of Pentland government hospital
VELLORE: Principal Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Health and Family Welfare Department, Dr Senthilkumar, on Saturday directed officials to ensure the timely completion of construction work on the upcoming Rs 150-crore multi-specialty block at Pentland Government Hospital in Vellore by 15 June. The hospital, which is nearing completion within the existing Pentland Hospital premises, is slated for inauguration by Chief Minister M K Stalin. Final touches are being executed in preparation for the inauguration. To review progress, Dr Senthilkumar inspected the construction site, accompanied by senior officials from the health department. He examined the quality of materials, adherence to the sanctioned building plan, and pace of ongoing work. Civil works must be completed by mid-June, he instructed, following which the installation of medical equipment will begin.

PGI's multi-level parking in Chandigarh 80% ready, to start operation in July
PGIMER, Chandigarh, is all set to get a new multi-level parking facility next month, built at a cost of about Rs 50 crore. This much-awaited parking, located near the New OPD, aims to ease the growing traffic and parking problems on the campus. The PGI Standing Finance Committee had approved the project in 2015 for a second multi-level parking facility near the New OPD. However, due to multiple delays over the past 10 years, the project couldn't move forward. According to Pankaj Rai, Deputy Director, Administration, PGI, around 80% of the construction work on the multi-level parking will be completed by July, and the facility will become operational, and the remaining work is expected to be completed by November. Considering the increase in patient load and the number of vehicles, the project will provide significant relief to patients and visitors visiting PGI, saving them time. The multi-level parking will eventually have space for over 900 cars, but initially, about 550 cars can be parked by July. The new parking structure is being built over approximately 26,000 square metres of land and will have six floors and one basement. Due to delays over the years, the demand for parking has continued to increase. PGI's New OPD registers more than 10,000 patients daily, many of whom are accompanied by one or two attendants. As a result, around 20,000 vehicles now enter the PGI campus each day. Due to the shortage of parking space, people often park at the Sector 11 market, outside PGI gates, open grounds near the Advanced Cardiac Centre etc. Earlier, PGI was planning on increasing the frequency of its free shuttle service and e-rickshaws to reduce congestion in the institute's parking lots, but as per a security guard, people don't use these services. The existing and designated parking facilities and spaces at PGI are not enough, as the institute struggles with a massive crowd and traffic. PGI currently has a total of 5,505 car parking spaces, including both permanent and temporary. There are 3,753 permanent parking slots, 72 temporary slots in front of the NINE (Nursing College), 180 temporary slots behind the dental block, and 1,500 temporary slots near the swimming pool, with 3,446 parking slots for scooters and bikes. On paper, parking appears to be enough — but the ground reality is different. Every day, heavy traffic, patient vehicles, and staff cars overwhelm the system. It's common to see attendants and visitors driving around in circles looking for a free spot. The new multi-level parking is expected to ease this pressure. Since PGI cannot stop vehicles from entering, many patients are too ill to walk, the only solution lies in expanding and managing parking facilities efficiently. PGI officials say they are working on traffic control and smart parking strategies, with a one-way system for traffic introduced during peak hours.
