In the area of Messinia, west of Athens, residents of the Kryoneri and Sellas villages were also told to leave. These sites were on a list of Greek regions on high alert for wildfires due to record-breaking temperatures and strong winds due on Saturday. Tourism is a key earner in Greece, and the fires have hit since the start of the peak summer holiday season early in July. He said all agencies under his ministry including the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), Kuching Water Board, Sibu Water Board, and Laku Management Sdn Bhd have been instructed to continuously monitor water sources as part of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure stable and reliable supply for consumers. 'This is part of our ministry's standard operating procedure (SOP) to ensure water supply sources are regularly monitored to maintain service stability and reliability for consumers,' he told a press conference after officiating the Petronas Powering Knowledge: MLNG Bestari Outreach Programme at SMK Sebuyau today. Julaihi said his ministry is also working closely with the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and stands ready to provide water supply assistance if necessary, although the situation remains under control for now. 'All water treatment plants across Sarawak are operating well and capable of meeting demand,' he said, while noting that disruptions may only occur in cases such as pipeline leaks, either due to aging infrastructure or third-party damage. MetMalaysia issues level one hot weather alert for Sabah, Sarawak areas
KUALA LUMPUR: Eight areas, four each in Sabah and Sarawak, have recorded level one (alert) hot weather conditions as of 4pm on Friday (July 25). The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), in a Facebook update on the hot weather status, said that the four areas in Sabah were Kota Marudu, Beluran, Telupid and Sandakan. Meanwhile, the four areas in Sarawak were Sibu, Marudi, Telang Usan and Limbang. According to MetMalaysia, the level one heatwave alert is issued when the daily maximum temperature in an area reaches between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days.
