2Summers takes us on a tour of Brixton

In that year, she experienced two summers, which lent itself to her calling her, now very popular blog, 2Summers. Through it, she allows others to see what enchanted her most about this city: Its people, food, culture, and art.
2Summers recently celebrated its 15th anniversary, and Mason grabbed at the opportunity to celebrate, as, due to Covid-19, she didn't get to celebrate her 10th anniversary. 'Today we're just going to do a walking tour around Brixton,' she said, together with her partner Thorsten Deckler, who led about 20 people through Brixton.
First on the tour was Frayznix Vintage Rack, a clothing store that sells thrift clothes and has managed to keep its old Victorian-style building. Next, they stopped at local mosaic artist, Bronwen Findlay's art space, to see what art her and her team were currently working on. They also visited one of the community's oldest homes, found along Fulham Road. Its owner has a chicken coop, and they support him through buying the eggs his chickens lay.
Another stop was at Dennis Dlomo's fitness club. 'Thorsten and I train with Dennis in the morning at Kingston Frost Park,' Mason told the tour group. Proceeds from ticket sales for the tour went towards buying new equipment for the club.
Mason first lived in Melville for 11 years, before finding a certain kind of intimate quality in Brixton she had not experienced anywhere else. 'It has smaller houses, which are closer to the street. There's always activity on the street, which makes it's easier for you to walk out and greet people, and there's also a lot of creatives. I'm part of that creative community, so it makes it easy to relate to people.'
She says her identity is tied to Johannesburg, and in that, more so to Brixton.

Rootin' tootin' fun at Poinsettia Park fête
POINSETTIA Park Retirement Centre was a hive of activity and buzzed with excitement and wild west-themed fun at the centre's annual fête earlier this month. Also read: Watch: 'Captain Hook' the seal recovering in Durban after bait-stealing ordeal Residents and community members volunteered their time and energy to make the fête an event to remember, dressing to the nines for a blast to the past. Line dancers, led by Dawn Mare, donning cowboy hats, plaid shirts and boots, danced to saloon-themed tunes. Various crafts, delicious foods, and bits and bobs were on sale on the day, and children enjoyed Western games while people socialised with family and friends. Wendy Lloyd, community services manager at Poinsettia Park Retirement Centre, said the centre raises funds throughout the year as it is an NPO. Lloyd added, 'Fundraising is a two-way street as many of our residents and staff enjoy having the opportunity to work together for a good cause. This is done by means of jumble sales and our big fundraiser for the year, our fête. It is our residents who come up with and vote for theme ideas for the annual fête. The funds raised are used for various projects deemed necessary after consultation with residents and management.' An example of this are the extra water tanks that have been installed at the centre. Lerato Kganyago speaks out after being followed by unknown men
Lerato said she laid a trap at a restaurant to catch the 'thugs'. Media personality Lerato Kganyago says she has allegedly been followed by 'thugs' for some time, adding that a police officer allegedly failed to intervene when she recently confronted one of the suspects. The Metro FM presenter said she had long been aware that she was being followed until she set a trap and managed to confront one of them. 'I bravely got out of the car by myself, which I don't advise, and confronted one of them… standing next to a uniformed police officer, who said nothing while this confrontation happened, and only walked away when they realised I had been recording all of them… I only did this because I knew I had 'invisible' security around me… They are thugs!' she added. She said she was tipped off by security at the venue, who informed her that she was being followed. 'I had captured each and every one of them — from when they walked in the door, where they sat, and when they all started moving as I made my way out!'
