President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared June 6, 2025 a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid'l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.
Marcos signed Proclamation No. 911 on May 21.
Eid'l Adha is one of the two important holidays in the Muslim calendar, the other being Eid'l Fitr, which marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
During Eid'l Adha, Muslims slaughter sheep, goats, cows, and camels to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son on Allah's command. — VBL, GMA Integrated News

Ombudsman fines Gwen Garcia P30,000 for indirect contempt

The Office of the Ombudsman has imposed a fine of P30,000 on outgoing Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia after finding her guilty of indirect contempt. In a copy of the order posted by GMA Integrated News' Joseph Morong, the Ombudsman said Garcia refused to step down as governor despite a preventive suspension order issued by the office on April 23 and received by Garcia on April 29. BREAKING: Ombudsman rules outgoing Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia guilty of indirect for defying Ombudsman suspension order; fines P30,000 @gmanews @24orasgma — Joseph Morong ???????? (@Joseph_Morong) June 13, 2025 "Despite implementation thereof and its immediately executory nature, you have willfully and openly refused to step down from your position as Governor," it read. The Ombudsman's suspension stemmed from allegations that Garcia granted a special permit to Shalom Construction, Inc. on May 14, 2024 without an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) or a Certificate of Non-Coverage (CNC) issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) or prior study/consultation with other relevant government agencies. GMA News Online has requested comment from Garcia regarding the matter, but she has yet to respond as of posting time. Garcia previously said her legal team would challenge the suspension. She had also said the issuance of a special permit to Shalom Construction, Inc. was approved by the Provincial Board, which earlier declared the entire Province of Cebu under a state of calamity due to acute water shortage. Garcia lost in the recent gubernatorial race to her closest poll rival Pam Baricuatro. She has filed an election protest with the Commission on Elections (Comelec). — VDV, GMA Integrated News

Palace says Marcos not against wage hike

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. is not against wage hike, Malacañang clarified Friday. At a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro was asked for reaction on the statement made by Kabataan party-list that it was Marcos who ''killed'' the proposed measure to raise the salary of workers as he favors the ''rich boys club.'' ''Diktador ba ang Pangulong Marcos Jr.? Hindi naman po. Hayaan na lang po muna natin ang usapin na 'yan sa Kongreso at ang Pangulo naman po ay hindi tutol sa increased wage hike dahil ito po naman ay makakabuti sa mga manggagawa,'' Castro said. (Is President Marcos Jr. a dictator? He's not. Let's leave the discussion to the Congress. The President is not against wage hike since this is good for our workers.) However, Castro said there is a process that must be followed in increasing the wage of workers. With 171 yes votes, zero no votes, and one abstention, the House of Representatives last week approved on third and final reading the proposed measure granting a P200 increase in the daily minimum wage for workers in the private sector. The House version of the legislated wage hike offered a higher increase than the P100 approved by the Senate. The House and the Senate will have to reconcile the differences at the bicameral conference committee before transmitting the enrolled bill to Malacañang. But since the 19th Congress has adjourned sine die, the bill will have to be refiled in the 20th Congress. Marcos will look into the economic implications of the proposed increase in the minimum wage for workers, Castro earlier said. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
