Under-18 national squad eye Asian Cup semis spot
KUALA LUMPUR: The newly formed Under-18 national hockey team have been given a semi-final target in the Under-18 Asian Cup from July 3-13 at Dazhou National Hockey Training Centre in China.
The squad comprising young talents from schools across the country, were announced by the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) yesterday.
Billed as RM9.73 for the 1st month then RM13.90 thereafters.

Billed as RM103.60 for the 1st year then RM148 thereafters.

No target for Malaysia in Madurai and Chennai
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) has not set any target for the Junior World Cup (JWC) in Madurai and Chennai, India, from Nov 29-Dec 10. Malaysia are drawn in Group E with the Netherlands, England and Austria in the 24-team JWC. MHC president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said that is because there is no long term training programme to prepare the current national junior team for this. "More than 10 years ago we had a four-year training programme and also had money to prepare a good team which finished fourth in the JWC under coach K. Dharmaraj (in New Delhi in 2013). But for the 2027 JWC, the MHC plans to have a well prepared team. "We need to plan long term for the juniors for the 2027 JWC. Nor Saiful Zaini will be in charge of the Under-18 team for 2027. "We are going to keep the players for the next two years and we are also going to look for more talent for the 2027 JWC." Meanwhile, Nor Saiful said his team have a semi-finals target in the boys' Under-18 Asia Cup in Dazhou, China. Malaysia are drawn in Group B with Japan, Taiwan, Uzbekistan, Indonesia and Kazakhstan while Group A comprises Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong.

PETALING JAYA: National hockey team head coach Sarjit Singh has the full backing of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) despite a poor sixth-place finish at the recent Nations Cup on home turf. The governing body believe Sarjit is still the right man for the job and the senior team are in good hands. MHC president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said the blame does not only fall on the head coach but the players need to take responsibility as well for failing to reach the semi-finals. "As president, I can see that the players can compete against any big team in the world. The team performed well, but because of some mistakes by players, we did not get the result we wanted. "This is not on the coach but the players as well. They play a role and in the end, they are the ones who will determine if we walk away with a win or a loss," said Subahan during a press conference yesterday.
