Few would have expected the Omega x Swatch Moonswatch to create such a furor both in and out of watch fandom when it was released in 2022, yet in just a few years, it has become one of the most desirable watches today due to its initial scarcity, dual brand recognition, and attractive price. Thankfully, it's much easier to buy a Moonswatch than when it was first released, including online, and the days of needing to pay scalpers for one through eBay are happily over. The Moonswatch takes its name and design from the classic Omega Speedmaster, also known as the Moonwatch, due to it being the first watch on the moon. Unlike the Omega Speedmaster, it's made of bioceramic (which feels a lot like plastic), doesn't have a sapphire crystal, has a quartz movement, is only water resistant to 30 meters, and most definitely hasn't been to the moon. None of this matters, though, as there's so much to like about the Moonswatch, from how it bridges the divide between normal people and watch fans, how it's practically guaranteed to stir up some kind of emotion, and that there's almost certainly a color scheme or design feature that will appeal. Just don't expect it to have the best build quality, or for it to feel anywhere near as expensive as its price suggests. Some also complain about the Velcro strap, but the branding looks great, and it's perfect to throw on your wrist when you're in a hurry. Once it's on, it's so light you barely know it's there. A rubber alternative strap is available if you do hate the Velcro, though. Even if you haven't heard of any other brands and watches on our list, I bet you have heard of the Omega x Swatch Moonswatch, but don't pass it off as just clever marketing. It's a Swatch at heart, and that makes it a fun and affordable gateway into watch ownership. Justin Kelly appointed new Garda commissioner
Justin Kelly will become the new Garda commissioner on September 1, Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan has announced. Mr Kelly will replace Drew Harris, who is to retire after seven years as commissioner. Mr Kelly is currently a deputy commissioner and has been appointed for five years. Mr O'Callaghan said: 'The role of Garda commissioner is one of the most challenging and impactful leadership positions in Ireland's public service and the appointment process was suitably rigorous. 'I am satisfied that Justin Kelly is both qualified and particularly well suited to the role of commissioner, given his extensive leadership experience over the last 30 years in some of the most challenging issues facing An Garda Siochana, including national security, domestic and sexual violence, and organised crime. 'I know Justin is fully committed to providing a high-visibility, highly trusted policing service to the public.' The selection process identified 14 candidates and included two interviews and a presentation. Mr Kelly was selected as the preferred candidate. Mr Harris will continue to lead the force until September, when he will retire after 41 years of service to policing across the island.

He held a bilateral with Sir Keir at the South Ayrshire course on Monday, where he also held a lengthy press conference. There, the President spoke of his "great love" for Scotland and said he wanted to see the nation "thrive". He was asked about Mr Swinney's plan for a second vote on the constitution. The First Minister said on Monday that the precedent set by the [[SNP]]'s 2011 election victory, when they won an unprecedented majority in Holyrood, would break the "logjam". He said there should be a "legal referendum recognised by all" on Scottish independence if the [[SNP]] manages the same feat at next year's [[Holyrood]] election. "We demonstrated how we break the logjam in the past, by electing a majority of SNP MSPs in 2011, and that led to an independence referendum in 2014," he told reporters. He invited supporters of independence to back his party in the constituency vote and to "demand independence" in the regional vote. Asked about the First Minister's proposal, the President said he did not want to "get involved" in Britain's domestic politics. "We got enough politics of our own," he added. He also claimed he had correctly predicted the result of the 2014 referendum, and suggested there should be a sizeable gap between votes. He told journalists: "I do say that when they made that deal, somebody said that it was – and I remember this very distinctly, I said, 'Could they do this all the time?' – there was a little bit of a restriction, like 50 or 75 years before you could take another vote. Because, you know, a country can't go through that too much."
