Kristaps Porzingis says 'I feel great' after illness last season, ready to play for Latvia, Hawks
Porzingis told Latvia's Sports Studija he is feeling like himself again and is ready to play for his native Latvia in EuroBasket, then with the Hawks next season (hat tip Basketnews.com for the translation).
'I feel fantastic, to be honest. I took time to rest after the season. Something was lingering during the playoffs—I had fatigue, dizziness, even moments where I felt like I might faint. It wasn't great...
'In June, I fully rested and lowered the intensity. All of that has gone away. I haven't felt any of the playoff symptoms anymore. I feel great and ready to join the national team.'
Atlanta had a fantastic offseason and part of that was trading for Porzingis — the Hawks are betting on him to be the rim protector they have lacked, as well as a pick-and-pop partner for Trae Young — and he realizes how much Atlanta needs him to have a career season.
'I've always been a player who can fit into any system, but now I adapt faster. I read defenses better and make quicker decisions. That comes with experience.'
What matters most is he seems healthy and ready to bounce back from a rough season, one where he still averaged 19.5 points a game during the regular season. If Porzingis can do that efficiently again, the Hawks become a real threat in a down East.

Tim McGraw thrills crowd before MLB Speedway Classic
MLB tried something new, sort of new. The Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds were supposed to play a baseball game on a field inside Bristol Motor Speedway. Problem is that the weather didn't cooperate and it rained and rained until after two hours play was suspended with the Reds leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first. The game will be picked up on Sunday afternoon. The idea riffs off something college football has done but weather isn't usually a problem for that sport. What did take place was a pregame concert featuring Tim McGraw. That went off without a hitch. No word on whether the Speedway Classic will be renamed Field of Streams. MVP frontrunner Napheesa Collier leaves during Lynx's 53-point blowout win over Aces
LAS VEGAS — Minnesota Lynx forward and MVP frontrunner Napheesa Collier injured her right ankle and left the game during Saturday's 111-58 victory over the Las Vegas Aces. Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said it was too soon to assess the severity of her star player's injury. 'She was in the locker room with us, but as protocol, tomorrow or whatever chance we get, we'll continue to evaluate and examine images, all that good stuff,' Reeve said. Trailing the play in which Natisha Hiedeman drove the lane for a lay-up, Collier appeared to step on teammate Alanna Smith's left foot and immediately went down near Las Vegas' bench with the Lynx holding a 92-49 lead late in the third quarter. She attempted to stand, but sat back down on the court, writhing in pain, and was immediately surrounded by Aces starters A'ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, Jackie Young, NaLyssa Smith and Kierstan Bell, who all held towels to shield her from exposure. Collier's teammates, coaches and trainers eventually made their way to the opposite end of the court to tend to the 2025 All-Star MVP. The seventh-year pro left the court on her own and went straight to the locker room, moving slowly and walking gingerly while favoring her right ankle with a Lynx staffer under her arm. Collier did not return. The league-leading Lynx (24-5) are off until Tuesday, when they'll finish their two-game trip in Seattle. The 53-point victory in Las Vegas was the largest road win in WNBA history. Reeve wouldn't speculate if Collier would get an MRI in Las Vegas, travel with the team to Seattle, or return home to Minnesota. 'It's just way too early,' Reeve said. 'At this point in time, I don't know exactly what's happening.'

Sex toy-throwing fan arrested for disrupting WNBA game between Valkyries, Dream
The fan who threw a green sex toy onto the court during a WNBA game between the Golden State Valkyries and Atlanta Dream on Tuesday has been arrested, according to a league spokesperson. That person has not been identified publicly. 'The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans,' the spokesperson said. 'In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities.'
