2 Ansonia men facing narcotics charges in Stratford
STRATFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Stratford police say two people were arrested during an investigation into the distribution of fentanyl and cocaine throughout town.
The Stratford Police Department's Narcotics, Vice and Intelligence Unit started investigating a specific person in January, based on a tip. They were informed the suspect was a street-level drug dealer that would sell narcotic substances to people throughout town.
Ansonia man gets 20 years in 2017 shooting death
On March 7, the NVI Unit executed four search and seizure warrants related to the investigation of William Pjura, 20, of Ansonia.
The search warrants applied to a residence in Ansonia, another residence in Shelton, a 2010 Cadillac and Pjura's person.
Police said the searches found about 42 grams of crack/cocaine, about 84 grams of fentanyl, a large assortment of oxycodone pills, a 2010 Cadillac CTS and $1,600 in cash.
Ansonia man arrested following child porn investigation
Pjura was subsequently charged with multiple narcotics offenses, including operation of an illegal drug factory and illegal possession of methadone/narcotics with intent to sell.
Pjura was held on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 17.
George Rich, 60, of Ansonia was also arrested during the execution of one of the search warrants.
He was charged with illegal possession of narcotics and illegally obtaining prescriptions.
Richard was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 17.

2 motorcycles collide with pickup truck in Waterbury
WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — Waterbury police say no life-threatening injuries were suffered when two motorcycles collided with a pickup truck on South Main Street Thursday evening. The crash happened in the area of Platts Mill Road around 6:21 p.m. The pickup truck initially fled the scene, but officers located it a short time later. $500K Fast Play lottery ticket sold in Ansonia Police said one of the motorcycles had a solo rider who was not injured. The other motorcycle had two adult riders- a male driver and female passenger. Both were transported to hospitals, the male with serious injuries and the female with non-life threatening injuries. San Diego authorities arrest 3 noncitizens allegedly involved in transporting more than $5M worth of meth
Federal and local authorities in San Diego arrested three men in the U.S. illegally – two from Mexico and one from El Salvador – after they allegedly transported nearly 8,000 pounds of methamphetamine worth more than $5 million earlier this week. The incident took place on Monday around 7 p.m. during a joint narcotics investigation in the South Bay region, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday evening. SDCSO detectives and U.S. Border Patrol agents observed three vehicles they believed were being loaded with bundles of drugs. A federal complaint filed by the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Southern District of California said the vehicles were being loaded in a parking lot on Otay Mesa Road. Two of those vehicles were driven toward a motel in San Ysidro, while the third vehicle went to a motel in Chula Vista, the sheriff's office said. All three drivers were ultimately arrested. They were identified by the Justice Department as 27-year-old Erick Omar Arriola, of El Salvador, and Mexican nationals Eugenio Lizama, 35, and Baltazar Rodriguez Reyes, 49. Arriola is a felon convicted of driving under the influence, battery of a spouse and false imprisonment, the DOJ said. When authorities searched their vehicles, they found a total of 61 bundles of methamphetamine, weighing more than 7,700 pounds and valued at around $5.5 million. "It was one of the biggest seizures of methamphetamine in 2025 in the Southern District of California, and the most significant so far by the new Homeland Security Task Force San Diego, which was recently established by the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security at the request of President Trump," the DOJ said. All three men were booked into the San Diego Central Jail and face charges related to conspiracy, transportation and possession of controlled substances for sales.

The race to find a thief: Berlin police investigating after Torch Run signs were stolen
BERLIN, Conn. (WTNH) — Anticipation and excitement surround the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics each year in Berlin. Year after year, students line the route in front of their school to cheer on the officers. Annual Special Olympics Torch Run begins in Connecticut This year, there was also disappointment. The signs, which usually line Veterans Way, were stolen sometime between Monday when they were placed there, and Wednesday, when Mark DePinto, the officer who organizes Berlin's leg of the run, realized they were gone. 'He works very hard for this to come out perfect and that was like a setback to him,' Carmen DePinto, Mark's wife, said. It was too late to replace the signs before Thursday's torch run. The signs show the businesses and organizations which support the torch run and the Special Olympics. DePinto's daughter Christine is one of the athletes. On the day of the race, she rides in the truck which leads the police officers through town. 'She gets excited to be part of it every year,' DePinto said. 'She gets so excited she don't even want to go to her job.' 'It's just… it's hard to understand why somebody would pull those signs out and take them for a cause as good as the Special Olympics,' Berlin Deputy Police Chief Drew Gallupe said. Berlin police have launched a full investigation and say whoever is responsible will face larceny charges. 'We're reviewing video from surrounding businesses and we would ask anyone that has information or saw someone taking the signs or knows who took them if they would call us at the Berlin Police Department,' Gallupe said. Berlin police say there were about a half a dozen signs stolen from Veterans Way and because of that, those businesses and organizations didn't get the recognition they deserve for supporting this worthy cause.
