CM promises support for RDT amid FCRA concerns
Amaravathi: MLAs from the erstwhile Anantapur district have urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to take immediate steps to resolve the ongoing Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) issue affecting the Rural Development Trust (RDT). The organisation, which has been instrumental in providing healthcare and development services in rural areas of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, has seen its foreign funding halted due to the cancellation of its FCRA registration by the Central government.
MLAs Kalva Srinivasulu, Paritala Sunitha, Bandaru Sravani, Alimineni Surendra Babu, and Daggupati Venkateswara Prasad met the Chief Minister at the Secretariat and submitted a memorandum seeking his intervention. They highlighted that RDT's work in remote villages is heavily dependent on foreign donations and that the recent restrictions have disrupted essential services. The Centre reportedly revoked the registration over allegations that funds were being used for purposes outside the approved scope of the organisation. The MLAs stated that depositing funds into local contribution accounts has become problematic, impacting ongoing projects. They also noted that the Trust is actively seeking the renewal of its FCRA licence.
Chief Minister Naidu assured the delegation that he would bring the matter to the attention of the Central government and take necessary steps to support the Trust's reinstatement. RDT's work has long been regarded as vital to underdeveloped areas, and the MLAs stressed that resolving the issue promptly is crucial for the continuation of services to the needy.

Focus is on enhancing diagnostic equipment in government hospitals, says Health Minister
The TDP-led NDA government in the State has evolved an action plan aimed at infusing a sense of discipline among doctors, bringing a change in their conduct towards patients and enhancing diagnostic equipment in government hospitals, according to Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav. Addressing the media in Vijayawada on Saturday (June 7, 2025), the Minister took a jibe at the YSRCP, and said the NDA did not consider people who voted against them as 'back stabbers'. 'We try to fulfil the promises made to the people. We have worked with accountability and responsibility,' he said. Giving an account of the changes in the Primary Health sector, the Minister said, in recognition of the State's efforts in improving the implementation of the Centrally-sponsored schemes at the village level, the Centre sanctioned ₹100 crore for the State towards performance incentive. 'This is not a small thing. During the past five years, the Centre did not give any such incentive,' the Minister said, adding the present government secured funds, to the tune of ₹1,065 crore, from the Centre for construction of 3,318 buildings of Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs in the State. At present, many were being run in rented spaces. Pointing out that timely and reliable diagnostic confirmation of diseases was the first step in ensuring healthcare for all, he said the government procured more than 3,200 diagnostic equipment in the past one year and decided to conduct 47 types of diagnostic tests at the doorstep of the people through the '104' service vehicles. Referring to the Tirumala laddu episode, the Minister said the government was focussing on opening drug testing laboratories in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Kurnool. New labs had been sanctioned for Tirumala, Eluru and Ongole. In line with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's vision of digitising healthcare, the Minister said an MoU had been signed with the Bill Gates Foundation for setting up Digital Health Command and Care Centre, strengthening Telemedicine services, supply chain management for drugs and consumables. Giving numbers as 'stastical evidence' of the change brought in by the present government, he said the attendance of doctors and other medical staff had increased by about 7.42% to 14.20%, OP services increased by about 8%, In-Patient (IP) services saw an improvement of 4% to 17.61%, lab tests saw an increase of 7.20%. He added that various surveys had shown that the public perception regarding availability of doctors in Government General Hospitals, their attitude, supply of free medicines improved. Talking about further plans, the Minister said the universal health insurance of up to ₹25 lakh would be rolled out soon. During an interaction with the mediapersons, the Minister said the COVID situation was not alarming in the State and that there were no restrictions on gathering. 'We have N95 masks, oxygen cylinders, beds, wards ready. However, the situation is not alarming and there is nothing to worry,' he said, adding that only those with comorbidities need to be extra careful. Health Special Chief Secretary M.T. Krishna Babu and Commissioner G. Veerapandian were present.

Vijayawada marks Bakrid with prayers, festive spirit
1 2 Vijayawada: The city witnessed vibrant celebrations on the occasion of Eid-Al-Adha, also known as Bakrid, as thousands of Muslims gathered at major Eidgahs to offer prayers and participate in rituals with devotion and joy. Large congregations were seen at key prayer locations including the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium, Gymkhana Grounds, and Eidgahs in the old city. At the IGMC Stadium and Yanamalakuduru Eidgah alone, over 3,000 worshippers offered Namaz-e-Eid, marking the spirit of sacrifice and unity. Imams led the special prayers and delivered sermons explaining the significance of Eid-Al-Adha. "Bakrid is a festival that reminds us of the spirit of sacrifice and submission to the will of Allah. One must be willing to let go of worldly attachments and walk the spiritual path," they said. Special duas (prayers) were offered for peace, prosperity, and the well-being of the people of Andhra Pradesh and the nation. After prayers, Muslims embraced each other, exchanged greetings of "Eid Mubarak," and proceeded to perform the ritual of animal sacrifice, a key tradition of the festival. Families sacrificed goats and sheep as a symbol of devotion, sharing the meat with relatives, friends, and the poor. Voluntary organizations also stepped in to support underprivileged worshippers by distributing essentials such as rice, dal, and ghee after the prayers. Chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, his deputy Pawan Kalyan, HRD minister Nara Lokesh and opposition leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy extended their heartfelt Bakrid greetings to the Muslim community, wishing for harmony and inclusive progress. The city police made elaborate security arrangements, particularly in the old city and One Town areas, ensuring peaceful and smooth celebrations by deploying additional forces.
