2
Vijayawada: The city witnessed vibrant celebrations on the occasion of Eid-Al-Adha, also known as Bakrid, as thousands of Muslims gathered at major Eidgahs to offer prayers and participate in rituals with devotion and joy.
Large congregations were seen at key prayer locations including the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium, Gymkhana Grounds, and Eidgahs in the old city. At the IGMC Stadium and Yanamalakuduru Eidgah alone, over 3,000 worshippers offered Namaz-e-Eid, marking the spirit of sacrifice and unity.
Imams led the special prayers and delivered sermons explaining the significance of Eid-Al-Adha. "Bakrid is a festival that reminds us of the spirit of sacrifice and submission to the will of Allah.
One must be willing to let go of worldly attachments and walk the spiritual path," they said. Special duas (prayers) were offered for peace, prosperity, and the well-being of the people of Andhra Pradesh and the nation.
After prayers, Muslims embraced each other, exchanged greetings of "Eid Mubarak," and proceeded to perform the ritual of animal sacrifice, a key tradition of the festival. Families sacrificed goats and sheep as a symbol of devotion, sharing the meat with relatives, friends, and the poor.
Voluntary organizations also stepped in to support underprivileged worshippers by distributing essentials such as rice, dal, and ghee after the prayers.
Chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, his deputy Pawan Kalyan, HRD minister Nara Lokesh and opposition leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy extended their heartfelt Bakrid greetings to the Muslim community, wishing for harmony and inclusive progress.
The city police made elaborate security arrangements, particularly in the old city and One Town areas, ensuring peaceful and smooth celebrations by deploying additional forces.

Pakistan Army chief Munir rejects speculation over President Zardari's ouster
Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir dismissed rumours about President Asif Ali Zardari's removal as false, stressing unity between the government and the establishment. Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir has ruled out any change in the leadership, describing rumours about the removal of President Asif Ali Zardari as completely false and against both the government and the establishment, a media report said on Saturday. In July, social media reports began to circulate that President Zardari may be asked to step down and that the army chief would take over the top office. However, top government officials — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi — rejected such claims. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Suhail Warraich, a columnist for the Jang media group, claimed in an article published Saturday that the army chief had spoken to him in person on the matter during a recent meeting in Brussels. Munir briefly stayed in Belgium on his return from last week's visit to the United States. 'The talk started with politics, especially on rumours that there is some effort to change the president of Pakistan as well as the prime minister. Field Marshal Munir clearly said, during both the Brussels gathering and in his two-hour discussion with me, that the rumours about a change were completely false,' Warraich claimed in the column published in the Urdu daily Jang. 'There are elements behind this (rumour) who oppose both the government and the authorities and wish to create political anarchy,' the army chief was quoted as saying. The article claimed that Munir also outlined his ambitions in the Brussels gathering, saying that: 'God has made me protector of the country. I do not desire any position other than that.' 'On a question about politics, he [Munir] said that political reconciliation is possible only if there is a sincere apology,' the report read. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Although it was not clear who Munir was referring to, it can be inferred that he may have been referring to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf: and its incarcerated leader, Imran Khan. On foreign relations, Munir was said to have expressed confidence in maintaining equilibrium between the US and China. 'We will not sacrifice one friend for the other,' Munir was quoted as saying. The army chief also described President Donald Trump's efforts for peace as 'genuine', and said Pakistan had taken the lead in nominating him for the Nobel Peace Prize, which was then followed by other nations.

MIM slams NCERT changes, role of RSS
1 2 Hyderabad: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday said that the BJP govt at the Centre should include the book 'Muslims Against Partition' by Shamsul Islam in the NCERT-recommended syllabi. "This lie about partition is repeated time and again. At that time, not even 2–3% of Muslims had the right to vote. Only elitists such as zamindars and jagirdars were enfranchised. Even today, they (RSS and BJP) blame us (Muslims) for the partition of the country. How were we responsible for that? Those who fled, fled. Those who were loyal, stayed," he said. Responding to media queries regarding proposed changes to the NCERT syllabus concerning the partition of the country, he stated that the RSS was never part of India's freedom struggle and did not participate in the Quit India Movement, the Salt Satyagraha, or other agitations. "Why don't they include in the NCERT syllabus that the RSS hated freedom fighters more than the British did? The RSS always sided with the British. Let them teach students all of this as well. No, they only want to spread hatred against Muslims," Owaisi alleged. He claimed the RSS never participated in the independence movement. "The RSS's Hindutva ideology has always been contrary to the Constitution. It was wrong for the PM to praise an organisation that spreads hatred in the country," he asserted. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). India's partition happened due to ‘jugalbandi' of Hindu Mahasabha and Muslim League: Congress
The Congress said that as a special NCERT module to mark the 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' held Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the Congress and the then Viceroy Lord Mountbatten responsible for India's partition. The Congress also dubbed the RSS as 'the biggest villain' in the country's history, and said that the coming generations would not forgive them. New Delhi, Aug 16 (PTI) The Congress on Saturday alleged that the partition of India happened because of the 'jugalbandi' of the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League, as it accused the ruling BJP of interfering in institutions while trying to distort the country's history. Congress spokesperson and head of party's media and publicity department Pawan Khera said the book does not mention anything about the Hindu Mahasabha for forming coalition governments with the Muslim League and both propagating, in pre-partition days, that Hindus and Muslims cannot live together in one country. 'The partition happened because of the Hindu Mahasabha and Muslim League's 'jugalbandi'. If there is anyone which is the biggest villain in history, it is the RSS. Generations will not forgive them for the contribution,' Khera told reporters when asked about the NCERT book. 'The manner in which they are trying to interfere in institutions and are trying to distort the history, we would not sit quiet. Can they remove these pages of 1938, 1940 and of 1942?' he asked. The Congress leader said L K Advani had gone to the Mazar of Mohammad Ali Jinnah to pay his respects, as the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League were 'together in seeking partition'. Khera claimed that in 1938, the Hindu Mahasabha held its annual convention on the banks of Sabarmati in Gujarat, where it was clearly stated that Hindus and Muslims cannot stay together in one country. In 1940, he said, in its Lahore convention, the Muslim League took this forward and repeated this statement, but the NCERT module does not mention about them. 'When the Quit India Movement was launched in 1942, Congress leaders resigned from the provincial Assembly and took to the streets. At that time, the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League entered into a coalition and jointly formed governments in NWFP, Bengal and Sindh. 'Has the NCERT module written this that the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League formed joint coalition governments?' the Congress leader asked. 'Put that book in fire if all that which is history has been not been written in it,' Khera asserted. The NCERT module has also noted that post-Partition, Kashmir emerged as a new problem, which had never existed in India before and created a challenge for the country's foreign policy. It also flagged that some countries keep giving aid to Pakistan and exert pressure on India in the name of the Kashmir issue. 'India's Partition happened due to wrong ideas. The party of Indian Muslims, the Muslim League, held a conference in Lahore in 1940. Its leader, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, said that Hindus and Muslims belong to two different religious philosophies, social customs, and literatures,' the module said. In a section titled 'Culprits of Partition', the NCERT module said, 'Ultimately, on August 15, 1947, India was divided. But this was not the doing of any one person. There were three elements responsible for the Partition of India: Jinnah, who demanded it; second, the Congress, which accepted it; and third, Mountbatten, who implemented it. But Mountbatten proved to be guilty of a major blunder. 'He preponed the date for the transfer of power from June 1948 to August 1947. He persuaded everyone to agree to this. Because of this, complete preparations could not be made before the Partition. The demarcation of the Partition boundaries was also done hastily. For that, Sir Cyril Radcliffe was given only five weeks.' PTI SKC MNK MNK This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. ThePrint holds no responsibility for its content.
