Top priority being given for health, education, agriculture, housing in Andhra Pradesh
'Andhra Pradesh Government has taken up a project to construct 100 to 300 bedded multispecialty hospitals in all 175 Assembly Constituencies. About ₹233 crore is being spent for strengthening Primary, Urban and General Health Centres in the State,' Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said. He participated in the 79th Independence Day celebrations at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium in Vijayawada on Friday (August 15, 2025) and hoisted the Tricolour flag. He received the guard of honour from the armed contingents, police and NCC Battalions. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the top priority was being given for welfare and development, health, education and agriculture sectors. Government is planning to establish Yoga Adhyayana Parishad soon. 'Through Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF) ₹552 crore aid was extended to the patients. Digital Nerve Centres would be extended in all districts in the State in the next two years,' Mr. Naidu said. Government has distributed uniform kits to the students under Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishna Vidyarthi Mitra Scheme, at a cost of ₹953 crore. Every Saturday has been declared as 'No Bag Day' and GO.117 brought to merge schools has been terminated. 'Talliki Vandanam' scheme was being implemented by spending ₹10,000 crore and about 67 lakh students were benefited under the Scheme. Each student was given ₹15,000 and the amount was credited in the accounts of the mothers,' the Chief Minister said. As part of women development and empowerment, priority was being given for women in setting up industries. EAGLE, 164 Shakthi Teams and 300 Help Desks have been set up to check ganja (Cannabis) and drugs smuggling and provide protection for women. 'Stern action was being taken against those who post derogatory comments against women on social media platforms,' Mr. Naidu warned. Women can travel in all 'Palle Veluvu', Urtra Palle Velugu', City Ordinary, Express and Metro Express buses at free of charge under 'Stree Shakthi' Scheme, launched at a cost of ₹1,942 crore. 'The State Government was paying ₹1.79 lakh gratuity to Anganwadi Workers and ₹1.09 lakh to Anganwadi Helpers. Retirement age for ASHA workers was increased to 62 years,' he said. 'To fulfil the dream of owning a house, government is planning to allot three cents of land in rural areas and two cents in urban areas at free of cost for constructing houses. About three lakh houses which were completed would be distributed to the beneficiaries soon, and six lakh more houses will be distributed by the March, next year,' the Chief Minister said. Through 'NTR Bharosa Scheme', 64 lakh pensions were being disbursed to the eligible persons. For senior citizens ₹4,000, for specially challenged ₹6,000, ₹10,000 for dialysis patients and ₹15,000 for the patients, who were complete bed-ridden, was being given, Mr. Naidu explained. 'Centre has released ₹12,157 crore and by the end of 2027, Polavaram project will be completed. Government has decided to link Polavaram-Banakacharla project to provide water to Rayalaseema region,' the CM added in his speech. 'The excess water in Godavari will be diverted from Polavaram to Banakacharla. Only the water going waste into the sea would be diverted and no State would suffer due to the project. So, no one shall raise objection on the proposed project,' the Chief Minister said, clarifying the water issues with the neighbouring Telugu speaking State. Later, Mr. Naidu distributed first prize to 16th APSP Battalion, Visakhapatnam and 2nd APSP Battalion, Kurnool, which won prizes in the best armed contingents category, during the I-Day Celebrations. The Chief Minister also gave prizes to the tableaux of Sericulture (Silk work unit) and Women Development and Child Welfare Departments, which won first and second prizes during the celebrations. Mr. Naidu also praised Prime Minister Modi for his leadership and saluted the Armed Forces for showing their power and capabilities during 'Operation Sindoor.'

Independence Day fete: Police impose traffic restrictions in Vijayawada
VIJAYAWADA: In view of the 79th Independence Day celebrations at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) stadium, the Vijayawada city traffic police have imposed traffic restrictions and diversions on certain routes to avoid inconvenience to citizens on Friday. Vehicular traffic on Mahatma Gandhi (MG) Road and other routes across the city will be diverted from 7 am to 5 pm, with additional restrictions at Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) surroundings. According to a police release issued on Thursday, vehicles heading towards Benz Circle from the old police control room junction will be diverted via RTC Y Junction, Chuttugunta, Gunadala, and Ramavarapadu Ring junction. Similarly, vehicles entering MG Road from Benz Circle will be diverted through Fakeergudem, Skew Bridge, Nethaji Bridge, and PNBS. Traffic from Red Circle to RTA Office junction and Sikhamani Centre to the Veterinary Hospital junction will not be allowed from 7 am to 12 pm. RTC city buses from Y Junction to Benz Circle will be diverted via Eluru Road and Ramavarapadu Ring Road. Only vehicles with passes issued by the authorities will be allowed from Benz Circle to the DCP bungalow during the period. Police have also tightened restrictions at PNBS surroundings as Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will be attending the inaugural ceremony of the Stree Sakthi Scheme around 3 pm.

Tight security arranged for I-Day celebrations, traffic restrictions imposed
Police made elaborate security arrangements at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium, the venue for Independence Day celebrations in Vijayawada. Security has been stepped up at Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS), where Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will launch 'Free Bus for Women' in the State, on Friday. Police reviewed security at IGMC Stadium, as well as PNBS, with the officers of APSRTC and other officers and conducted rehearsals. Mr. Naidu will participate in the I-Day celebrations at the stadium, in which many VIPs will take part. Officers will monitor security through drones at IGMC and PNBS. Police imposed traffic restrictions on M. G. Road (Bandar Road) on Friday, in wake of the VIP movements. Krishna district Superintendent of Police R. Gangadhar Rao visited the police parade grounds and reviewed bandobust for Independence Day celebrations in Machilipatnam.

Yoga is India's cultural treasure: Collector Lakshmisha
Vijayawada: Yoga is the cultural treasure of India and daily yoga practice is essential for maintaining good health and well-being, said district Collector G Lakshmisha. He further stated that yoga fosters mental calmness and leads to a happy and healthy life, while addressing International yoga Day celebrations at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) stadium here on Saturday. Several thousands of yoga lovers, students, government employees and others participated in the celebrations. Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) Special Chief Secretary G Jayalakshmi, Vijayawada city Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu, Joint Collector S Ilakkiya, DCP KGV Saritha, former minister Peetala Sujatha, APNGO State president A Vidyasagar, and others took part in Yoga Day celebrations. Collector Lakshmisha mentioned that for the past month, yoga sessions were held on Yoga Street in the city with the participation from various department officials, staff, voluntary organisations, the Yoga Association, yoga walkers' groups, ex-servicemen, and people from different sections of society. He said around 8,50,000 people were trained in the city and practiced yoga as per the common yoga protocol during the past one month. He emphasised the need for yoga to become a part of everyone's life. He further said yoga fosters mental calmness and leads to a happy and healthy life. He urged every employee to dedicate some time to yoga daily to boost immunity and improve blood circulation. Commissioner of Police (CP) SV Rajasekhar Babu stated that in honor of International Yoga Day, yoga events were conducted for an entire month involving various themes and venues including on BRTS Road and other places like Kondapalli fort, Berm park etc. He said the NTR district set a world record with a floating yoga session on the Krishna River using watercraft. He urged everyone to incorporate yoga into their daily lives, adding that yoga helps relieve stress and brings mental peace. Collector Dr G Lakshmisha presented certificates and mementos to yoga association members, who played key role in achieving the floating yoga world record and to district officials and staff who actively participated in the month-long yoga festival. The month-long Yoga campaign conducted by NTR district administration and other associations ended on Saturday with a mega programme at IGMC stadium.

Yoga practice should not end with month-long campaign, Collector tells people
The month-long 'Yogandhra' campaign, which began on May 21 and culminated with the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations on Saturday, was launched to encourage the public to incorporate yoga in their daily lives, said NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha. Speaking at the Yoga Day celebrations at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium in Vijayawada, the Collector said that while thousands of people participated every day in the programme in the district, the practice should not end with the campaign. 'The month-long celebration should only be a beginning for the public, not the end,' he added. According to the district officials, around 5,000 people participated in the programme. Chief Commissioner of Land Administration G. Jayalakshmi, Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu, Joint Collector S. Ilakkiya and others were also present. In the past month, the administration organised yoga programmes in the city streets, tourist destinations, historical sites and also on the Krishna river, the Collector said. Around 8,50,000 people in 5,454 places within the limits of 605 village/ward secretariats took part in the yoga programmes, the Collector added. Yoga is a gift that nature has bestowed upon us to remain mentally and physically fit, the Collector said, while listing out the benefits of practising it every day. Later, he congratulated the members of Yoga Association on their role in the Floating Yoga programme held recently. The programme had received wide admiration. On Saturday, around 200 people performed yoga in the Krishna river in an event organised by the Aqua Devils Swimming Association. In Krishna district, the programme was organised on the premises of Sri Viswasanthi Educational Institutions in Vuyyuru. Along with District Collector D.K. Balaji, Penamaluru MLA Bode Prasad, Machilipatnam MP Vallabhaneni Balashowry, APSRTC Chairman K. Narayana Rao, and Superintendent of Police (SP) R. Gangadhar Rao also took part. A green carpet was laid on the ground for the students and officials to perform yoga. Later, breakfast was arranged for those who took part in the programme. Medical camps were also set up. Cultural programmes and an award ceremony followed, where yoga instructors and students were felicitated.
