Yoga is India's cultural treasure: Collector Lakshmisha
Several thousands of yoga lovers, students, government employees and others participated in the celebrations. Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) Special Chief Secretary G Jayalakshmi, Vijayawada city Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu, Joint Collector S Ilakkiya, DCP KGV Saritha, former minister Peetala Sujatha, APNGO State president A Vidyasagar, and others took part in Yoga Day celebrations. Collector Lakshmisha mentioned that for the past month, yoga sessions were held on Yoga Street in the city with the participation from various department officials, staff, voluntary organisations, the Yoga Association, yoga walkers' groups, ex-servicemen, and people from different sections of society. He said around 8,50,000 people were trained in the city and practiced yoga as per the common yoga protocol during the past one month. He emphasised the need for yoga to become a part of everyone's life. He further said yoga fosters mental calmness and leads to a happy and healthy life. He urged every employee to dedicate some time to yoga daily to boost immunity and improve blood circulation.
Commissioner of Police (CP) SV Rajasekhar Babu stated that in honor of International Yoga Day, yoga events were conducted for an entire month involving various themes and venues including on BRTS Road and other places like Kondapalli fort, Berm park etc. He said the NTR district set a world record with a floating yoga session on the Krishna River using watercraft. He urged everyone to incorporate yoga into their daily lives, adding that yoga helps relieve stress and brings mental peace.
Collector Dr G Lakshmisha presented certificates and mementos to yoga association members, who played key role in achieving the floating yoga world record and to district officials and staff who actively participated in the month-long yoga festival.
The month-long Yoga campaign conducted by NTR district administration and other associations ended on Saturday with a mega programme at IGMC stadium.

Drug dependents not to be kept with mentally ill patients in IGMC: Minister
Shimla: Colonel Dhani Ram Shandil (retd), the minister for health and family welfare, social justice and empowerment, and sainik welfare, on Tuesday said drug-dependent patients undergoing treatment at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, would not be kept with the mentally ill patients. The state govt is also building a separate de-addiction centre for women as the number of girls addicted to drugs is increasing every day in the state, said the minister. He said options would be explored to establish a de-addiction centre in the govt sector in Shimla so that drug addicts could get the right treatment. Strict action will be taken against those de-addiction centres where drug business is being carried out, the minister emphasised. Shandil was speaking after launching the trailer of 'The White Truth' – a web series against drug abuse – under the Yuva Bachao Abhiyan by the Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti at Bachat Bhawan here. The web series has seven episodes. It is based on people who have fallen prey to drug addiction. The minister said human life was precious and it should not be destroyed by consuming drugs. "Today, the drug business has spread everywhere. Drugs are reaching India from foreign countries through the borders. Security agencies are working, but it has to be done with more intensity," he said. The general public is supporting the anti-drug movement in the state and there is a need to work together to make Himachal drug-free, Shandil added. Shimla: Three test positive for scrub typhus at IGMC
Agency: Last Updated: August 11, 2025, 22:45 IST Representational image (Image: News18) Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 11 (ANI): Out of four suspected cases of scrub typhus tested at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) on Monday, three have returned positive, hospital authorities Rahul Rao, Medical Superintendent of IGMC, said in a brief press note issued to the media.'Today, four samples were tested for scrub typhus at our laboratory, and three have tested positive. Patients are under treatment and being closely monitored. We are taking all necessary precautions to prevent complications," he typhus, caused by the bite of infected chiggers (larval mites), is a seasonal vector-borne disease that often spikes during the monsoon months in Himachal Pradesh. Doctors have urged residents to remain alert, wear protective clothing, and seek immediate medical attention in case of high fever, chills, or unexplained to health experts, early detection and timely treatment can prevent serious complications such as respiratory distress or organ failure. IGMC has also issued an advisory for high-risk rural and hilly areas, asking people to avoid overgrown bushes and maintain hygiene around high-intensity fever is caused by the mites in the shrubs, which transmit the bacterial infection (Orientia tsutsugamushi). This fever caused many deaths of US army troops in the Southeast Asian region of Burma and Ceylon. This also caused many deaths in Europe during the 2nd World War. Scrub typhus is also known as 'Tsutsugamushi Triangle' because of its effect and extension as a common epidemic in the regions of northern Japan and eastern Russia, North and South Australia, Pakistan and Afghanistan in the another development, the Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today took a significant leap in the healthcare sector of the state, inaugurating the state's first robot-assisted surgical facility at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialities, Chamiana, Shimla. Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr (Col) Dhani Ram Shandil and Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, along with senior officials and doctors, were present at the facility opened with the first-ever robotic-assisted prostate cancer surgery in the state, performed by renowned urologist Dr Anand Kumar from Max Hospital, assisted by Dr Pamposh Raina. One dies of scrub typhus at IGMC,Shimla
A 34-year-old patient died of at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC), Shimla, officials said on Sunday. Scrub typhus is a disease that's spread to people through bite of a mite and is caused by a bacteria known as Orientia tsutsugamushi.
