The flight from Berlin landed safely in Memmingen, about 115 km (70 miles) west of Munich, after bad weather prompted the pilot to initiate the emergency landing, Bavaria police said in a statement.
Among the injured were a woman who sustained a head injury, her two-year-old toddler who suffered bruises, and a 59-year-old woman complaining of back pain, police said. All three were treated in hospital, while other injuries were treated at the scene.
Ryanair said in a statement on Thursday that the flight's captain had requested medical assistance ahead of landing.
The airline, which apologized to those affected, said it provided a bus service from Memmingen to Milan late on Wednesday as well as a replacement flight early on Thursday. — Reuters

Over 300 people dead in Pakistan after heavy rains, floods
Residents attend the funeral of the victims of a cloudburst that triggered heavy rains and flooding in Naryan Behak village on the outskirts of Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistani-administered Kashmir, August 15, 2025. REUTERS/Naseer ud Din PESHAWAR, Pakistan — More than 300 people are dead in northwest Pakistan after two days of intense rains and floods, local officials said on Saturday. Rescue efforts and clearing of blocked roads were ongoing with the release of emergency funds, they said, adding that the heavy rains would continue until August 21. Cloud bursts, flash floods, lightning strikes, landslides, and the collapse of buildings caused the most deadly spell of this year's monsoon season. By early Saturday, 307 were confirmed dead, with more people missing, in the hills and mountains of the region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority. Not only Pakistan but also parts of neighboring India and Nepal have been hit hard by heavy rains, flooding and other rain-related incidents over the past week. Buner district, a three-and-a-half hour drive north from Pakistan's capital Islamabad in normal times, was among the country's worst-hit, with 184 killed and widespread damage to infrastructure, crops and orchards, local officials said. A cloud burst, fallen trees and flash floods swept away people and possessions. People, including women and children, remained trapped by floodwaters in some areas of Buner, with 93 bodies recovered. In another area, Shangla, the collapse of the roof of a building due to the downpour caused many of the 34 deaths, said the provincial Chief Secretary, Shahab Ali Shah. He said that local officials had been dispatched to the flooded areas to supervise relief operations and assess the damage. Medical camps, he said, were being established for the flood victims, along with arrangements for families who lost their homes to be provided with cooked meals. Shah said that heavy machinery would be deployed to clear and restore roads. Ishaq Dar, the deputy prime minister and foreign minister, said that civilian and military teams were carrying out rescue and relief operations, while the prime minister had chaired an emergency meeting.\ 'Our hearts go out to the families who have lost loved ones, to those who are injured, and many whose homes and livelihoods have been swept away,' Dar said in a statement on social media. On Friday, a rescue helicopter had crashed, due to bad weather, killing the five crew members. — Reuters

Brief La Niña expected in fall 2025 before ENSO neutral returns, says US CPC
A brief period of La Niña conditions is favored in the fall and early winter 2025-26 before reverting to El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) neutral, the US Climate Prediction Center said on Thursday. The US weather forecaster added that ENSO-neutral conditions are most likely in the late Northern Hemisphere summer of 2025, with a 56% chance during August to October. La Niña is part of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) climatic cycle, which affects water temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean. La Niña results in cooler water temperatures, increasing the chances of floods and droughts, which can impact crops. When ENSO is neutral, water temperatures stay around the average level, leading to more stable weather and potentially better crop yields. "The ENSO neutral typically results in a drier central/southern US Plains in winter, so this will likely affect the new winter wheat crop there," said Donald Keeney, agricultural meteorologist at Vaisala Weather. "However, it is a bit more favorable for South America. This should result in increased plantings and favorable conditions, at least early in the season, for both central/northern Brazil and Argentina," he added. Meanwhile, Japan's weather bureau said this week that there was a 60% chance that the La Niña phenomenon would not occur and normal weather patterns would continue towards the Northern Hemisphere winter. — Reuters

Sudden rainstorm in Indian Kashmir leaves 17 dead, scores missing
A woman covered in mud is evacuated from Chasoti town in Indian Kashmir on Aug. 14, 2025, after a sudden heavy downpour hit the area, washing away several people. At least 17 are dead and more are missing. Reuters video SRINAGAR, India — At least 17 people were feared dead and more missing following sudden, heavy rain in Indian Kashmir, an official said on Thursday. The disaster occurred in Chasoti town of Kishtwar district, a stopover point on a popular pilgrimage route. It comes a little over a week after a heavy flood and mudslide engulfed an entire village in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand. The flood washed away a community kitchen and a security post set up in the village, said the official, who declined to be named because he was not authorized to speak to the media about the incident. "A large number of pilgrims had gathered for lunch and they were washed away. Scores of people as of now are missing," the official said. "The news is grim and accurate, verified information from the area hit by the cloudburst is slow in arriving," Omar Abdullah, the chief minister of India's federal territory of Jammu and Kashmir, said in a post on X. Television footage showed pilgrims crying in fear as water flooded the village. The disaster occurred at 11.30 am local time, Ramesh Kumar, the divisional commissioner of Kishtwar district, told news agency ANI, adding that local police and disaster response officials had reached the scene. "Army, air force teams have also been activated. Search and rescue operations are underway," Kumar said. A cloudburst, according to the Indian Meteorological Department, is a sudden, intense downpour of over 100 mm (4 inches) of rain in just one hour that can trigger sudden floods, landslides, and devastation, especially in mountainous regions during the monsoon. The local weather office in Srinagar predicted intense showers for several regions in Kashmir on Thursday, including Kishtwar, asking residents to stay away from loose structures, electric poles and old trees as there was a possibility of mudslides and flash floods. — Reuters
