Can You Wear Black to a Wedding? A Celebrity Stylist Weighs In originally appeared on Parade.
It's officially wedding season, meaning that it's time to get all of your wedding guest outfits in order. Of course, part of that process is deciding what color palette you want for each look. Certain colors are obvious no-nos—after all, we all know it's a major faux pas to wear white to a ceremony. But can you wear black to a ? When it comes to major gatherings, this reliable neutral is far more synonymous with funerals.Still, black is one of the chicest, most readily available hues in anyone's closet. Who's to say that it doesn't have a place on your loved one's special day? Then there are other factors that you have to take into account no matter what color your ensemble is. For instance, what accessories are you planning to wear, and could they provide a welcome pop of color? On the other hand, where is the ceremony and reception you are attending and at what time? After all, a morning garden wedding sets a much different tone than, say, a post-vows cocktail hour on a warm summer evening. So we wanted to find out: Is it okay to wear a to a wedding? Celebrity stylist Robyn Victoria Fernandes, who has worked with the likes of Tinashe and Indya Moore, shares her thoughts with us to help answer that question once and for all.Related:
Even if wearing black to a wedding isn't the standard, that doesn't mean that you can't consider doing so in certain contexts.'While wearing black to a wedding is not the norm, nor does it scream, 'I'm so happy for the happy couple,' I do think there's a time and place for it,' Fernandes says. 'And it can be done chicly.'Related:
Fernandes recommends saving your chic black ensembles for evening weddings and receptions, 'especially when the dress code is black tie.''When going all in on all black, keep it fun and festive, not over the top,' she says. 'Let's keep the ruffles and tiered dresses in the '90s. I'm thinking long column dresses with interesting details. Or cocktail chic—above the knee or knee length with a nice neckline, or better yet, strapless.'Related:
Sure, black is an easy color for most of us to wear. Still, there is a time and place for it when it comes to weddings.'Please refrain from wearing black to an outdoor or garden wedding,' Fernandes says. 'Try not to take the easy way out. Pick a color!'
If you choose to wear all black to a ceremony, Fernandes says that accessories are the place to add a pop of color—such as a statement shoe—to lighten the overall mood.'Colorful jewelry can also act as a point of interest, whether it be a necklace or earrings,' she notes. 'Think rich jewel tones like citrine, ruby or amethyst.'Related:
Fernandes recommends treating a wedding 'as a celebration, not a party.'In other words, leave your mini dresses in the closet and opt for simple floor-length dresses or dresses that land a few inches above the knee. If you opt for a pantsuit, make sure to dress it up with satin or by sporting a suit with embroidered material.'Remember when wearing black to a wedding, you want to keep it chic and classy,' she says.
If you're headed to an outdoor evening reception that is 'indoors or on a fancy rooftop,' Fernandes says you're good to wear all black.'Even your warm summer weddings, you could get away with it, too!' she adds.Up Next:Robyn Victoria Fernandes, celebrity stylist who has worked with the likes of Tinashe and Indya Moore

Savannah Guthrie Wonders ‘What Are Veneers' When Asked Whether She Has a Set of Her Own
Even the most famous journalists can get stumped with a surprise question. While celebrating the launch of 's Joy 101 app in New York City last month, faced an unexpected inquiry from a Parade reporter curious to know if the Today show coanchor has veneers. "What is that, like, braces?" Guthrie, 53, replied. 'I did Invisalign. What are veneers?' Veneers are described as coverings that fit over the front surfaces of your teeth. They can help make one's teeth look bigger, straighter, brighter or remove any space in between teeth. Savannah Guthrie Talks 'Today' Legacy, Motherhood and Hoda Kotb's Exit When the reporter suggested that Guthrie would know if she had them, the NBC journalist agreed and clarified that she didn't have a set of her own. 'OK, I guess no. No, I don't have veneers,' she joked. 'I probably need them. Whatever they are. I gotta go, getting veneers.' These days, Guthrie has other priorities in her life besides those of the dental variety, including bringing the news to millions of Americans via Today and striving to be a good mom to daughter Vale, 10, and son Charley, 8. 'I try really hard to be not just a calm mom, but a joyful mom and a fun mom,' she exclusively told Us Weekly in May at Kotb's launch party. 'But I'm also a real mom, so that means at about 8 on a Sunday night, I'm like, 'Let's go.'' If Guthrie comes close to reaching a breaking point while parenting, she tries to use it as a reminder for her kids that everyone has different emotions at different times. 'They need to see that we're human too,' she explained of moms. 'I don't think that we're supposed to present to them a stoic figure that's not real life. I don't think that's sending them the lesson. I think they need to know that mom and dad, we're human too. We're doing our best, but let's cooperate and get along. I try to strike that balance.' Savannah Guthrie Woke Up Missing a Tooth After a 'Today' Christmas Party One thing that made Guthrie smile recently was having the opportunity to reunite with her friend in the morning. Last month, Kotb, 60, returned to the Today show to hang out with her TV family and give fans an update on her post-morning show life. 'She's our family. This is home for her,' Guthrie gushed to Us. 'It always will be home for her. It was just wonderful to have her there. But it's just exciting for our friends on the plaza to get to see her and everybody wants to know, how are you doing? All the things I've asked her over the last few months. We talk. We've had breakfast. We call. … Our viewers wanted to know that too.'

Country Star Allegedly Kills Woman In Car Accident
Country Star Allegedly Kills Woman In Car Accident originally appeared on Parade. Country singer Conner Smith was involved in a fatal car accident in Nashville over the weekend, allegedly striking and killing a woman walking in a crosswalk. According to a release shared by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Smith, 24, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on Sunday, June 8 when he hit Dorothy Dobbins, 77, as she crossed the road inside a marked crosswalk. Dobbins was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she later died. A source says that the incident was an accident, and that Smith was not under the influence or distracted by his phone. 'The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian,' the release said. 'He showed no signs of impairment.' The investigation is ongoing and, at this time, there are no charges against Smith, according to police. Sources on the scene claim law enforcement released Smith right away as there were no signs of impairment. In a statement to People Magazine, Smith's attorney confirmed the country singer was 'involved in a car accident that tragically claimed a life.' 'His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins' family during this incredibly difficult time,' the statement said. 'Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.' The accident took place on the last day of the annual CMA Fest, a four-day festival in Nashville that brings country music's biggest stars together for special concerts, collaborations and events. During the fest on Sunday, Smith performed with close friend Dylan Marlowe. The day before, he stopped by Lainey Wilson's Bell Bottoms Up in Nashville to perform at Big Machine Label Group's CMA Fest event. Smith is signed to Big Machine Records' Valory label, and released his debut album Smoky Mountains last year. He's opened for Luke Bryan on tour, and was nominated for New Male Artist of the Year at the 2024 ACM Awards.
