Former cop handed 15 charges for alleged sex offences involving at least 6 boys
He allegedly targeted three boys in one day in April 2024.
Sharizal Shafi'ee's alleged offences involved three 14-year-old and three 15-year-old boys, and were allegedly committed while he was still with the Singapore Police Force.
The 40-year-old, who has since left the force, was handed 15 charges on July 25.
Court documents stated he was in a Jurong West flat on July 31, 2023, when he allegedly persuaded a 15-year-old boy to perform a sexual act over a video call via messaging platform Telegram.
Sharizal allegedly used his mobile phone to record the teenager doing so.
He was in the same flat on Aug 20, 2023, when he allegedly committed similar offences involving a 14-year-old boy.
Sharizal is said to have committed the same offences again with the same boy two days later.
He is accused of targeting a second 15-year-old boy twice in November 2023.
Similarly, Sharizal allegedly persuaded the teenager to perform a sexual act over a Telegram video call on Nov 12 and 17 that year.
After that, he purportedly used his mobile phone to record the teenager doing so on both occasions.
On April 18, 2024, he allegedly targeted three victims, first by allegedly committing similar offences against a third 15-year-old boy.
He is accused of attempting to procure an obscene act from a second 14-year-old boy along a pavement in Jurong West Avenue 1 that day.
Court documents stated Sharizal allegedly requested the teenager's help to adjust Sharizal's bra and asked the boy to follow him.
Court documents did not disclose why Sharizal was allegedly wearing the bra at the time. Sharizal allegedly did this so he could touch the boy in an obscene manner.
Sharizal allegedly struck again that day when he allegedly molested a third 14-year-old boy at a staircase landing of a Jurong West block of flats.
Responding to queries from The Straits Times, the police said they had removed Sharizal from front-line duties before he resigned on June 16, 2024.
A police spokesperson added: "Officers of the Singapore Police Force are expected to uphold the law and maintain the highest standards of conduct and integrity. We deal with officers who break the law seriously, including charging them in court.
"We are unable to comment further as court proceedings are ongoing."
Sharizal's case has been adjourned to Aug 22.
If convicted of molestation, he can be jailed for up to three years, fined, caned, or receive any combination of such punishments.
For each count of producing a sexually explicit video showing a minor, an offender can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined or caned.

Taking the stand on July 31, the third day of his trial, Koh Lee Hwa said he ended up having sex with the woman after she pulled him by the arm. Denying that he had raped her, Koh said the sexual encounter took slightly over 10 minutes, which he compared with the "standard" length of time for sex between him and his wife. "How could it happen so fast if it was rape?" he said through a Mandarin interpreter. The prosecution said Koh's testimony was "unbelievable" and contended that the woman did not do anything to suggest that she wanted intimacy from him. The Singapore permanent resident faces one count of rape, one count of sexual assault by penetration and two counts of outrage of modesty. The offences were allegedly committed between about 11.40am and 12.40pm on Aug 23, 2021. The woman, whose age has been redacted from court documents provided to the media, had earlier testified in private. She had engaged Koh to renovate her flat in 2015. Over the years, she contacted him for various works. On Aug 21, 2021, she asked him to repair the faulty light in the common toilet and the light switch in the kitchen. The next day, Koh repaired the light switch. On Aug 23, he returned with the necessary parts to fix the main circuit switchboard. Koh allegedly hugged the woman without her consent in the living room. Shocked, the woman pushed him away and went back to the bedroom, where she sent text messages to two friends to tell them about the hug. A few minutes later, Koh asked her to turn on all the switches in the flat to ensure that they were working. While they were outside the toilet in the master bedroom, Koh allegedly pushed her against the dressing table and hugged her. She tried to push him away and told him to let her go. But he allegedly raped her on the bed and did not stop even after she bit him. On July 31, Koh denied that he had hugged the woman in the living room. He said she pulled his right arm while they were outside the master bedroom toilet after checking the water heater. Koh said he asked her in Mandarin, "what do you want?", and she echoed the same words back at him. He said he then put his arms around her waist while she placed her hands on his shoulders, and they started kissing. "Things happened very quickly. The two of us landed on the bed," he said. Describing their acts, Koh said she made sounds indicating she was excited. When Justice Mavis Chionh asked if there was any conversation between them, Koh said there was none. Koh said that while they were having sex, the woman bit him in excitement. He said he pushed her to stop her because he did not want his family to know he had an affair. Koh said that after sex, when he told her he was leaving, she uttered the word "money" and he replied "don't have". He said he was confused about whether she was asking him for money or referring to the amount that she owed him for the repair job. Koh said the woman could be jealous of him because she saw the gold chain he was wearing. When the judge asked what this had to do with the incident, he said it was just his view. Deputy Public Prosecutor Emily Koh sought to poke holes in the man's claims in cross-examination, pointing to the messages that the woman had sent to her friends. The man insisted that he did not hug her, saying he was a "righteous and upright person". The prosecutor contended that the alleged victim did not grab his arm, noting that the woman had never expressed romantic or sexual interest in him. Koh disagreed. He said the two of them "were in the mood" and that the woman was trying to "entice" him by pulling his arm. ICA inspector admits to soliciting sex acts from six foreign men as bribes
An Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) inspector obtained bribes in the form of sex acts from six men in exchange for helping them with their short-term visit pass (STVP) applications so they could remain in Singapore. Kannan Morice Rajagopal Jayaram, 55, who committed the offences between 2022 and 2023, pleaded guilty on July 28 to three corruption charges, each involving an Indian national. The three men were between 25 and 30 years old at the time. Another three similar charges involving three other men will be considered during the Singaporean's sentencing. In a statement in 2023, ICA said that Kannan has been suspended from service since April that year. The Straits Times has reached out to the agency to find out if he is still working for it. Deputy public prosecutors Bryan Wong and Benjamin Low stated in court documents that Kannan joined ICA in 1996 and became a team leader at ICA's Visit Pass Unit in 2018. He rose through the ranks and became an inspector in 2021. As a team leader, he was responsible for overseeing a team of around 10 ICA officers who reported to him. Among other things, these officers were tasked with processing foreigners' applications to extend their STVPs. While there were ICA guidelines, Kannan's subordinates also had the discretion to grant or reject STVP extensions if there were sufficient reasons to do so. However, they would usually consult him whenever they encountered difficulties with such applications. In turn, Kannan had the discretion to grant any STVP extension application that his team handled. There were also times when he manned walk-in counters at the ICA headquarters, the court heard. One of the men he targeted was a 26-year-old Indian national, referred to as V3 in court documents. V3 had arrived in Singapore in March 2022 as he wanted to study hospitality management here. He was issued a student pass (STP) in mid-2022, but it was only valid until September that year. As such, he had to repeatedly apply for STVP extensions at ICA headquarters until he could obtain a fresh STP. On Nov 16, 2022, he went to the headquarters and Kannan attended to him. The pair exchanged contact details and Kannan later contacted him via WhatsApp, asking to meet up. However, V3 declined to do so as he was in school at the time. He later received an official e-mail from ICA on Dec 24, 2022, informing him that his STVP extension application had been rejected. As his STVP was due to expire two days later, he panicked and called Kannan to ask for his help with the extension. Kannan then told V3 to bring his immigration documents and meet him at the void deck of a Housing Board block of flats near Kallang MRT station that day. V3 did as he was told and followed Kannan home. While there, Kannan instructed V3 to submit an STVP extension application via the ICA website. After that, Kannan submitted V3's passport number to his ICA subordinate. He also instructed the subordinate to approve V3's latest STVP extension application and grant the younger man an STVP for a duration of two weeks. The officer did as she was told and at around noon that day, V3 received an official e-mail from ICA informing him that his latest STVP extension application had been approved. The prosecutors said: "He thanked the accused for his help... Thereafter, the accused requested that V3 kiss him, to which V3 declined as he was not sexually attracted to the accused. "The accused persisted in his demands for sexual acts from V3, to which the latter eventually acceded to as he was grateful to the accused for his help in granting his STVP extension application." V3 was also afraid that Kannan would cancel his STVP if he turned down his advances. The two men then went to Kannan's bedroom and the older man performed sexual acts on V3. The court heard that Kannan also committed similar offences involving five other foreign men. Court documents did not state how his crimes came to light, but he was later charged in court in 2023. His mitigation and sentencing are expected to take place on Aug 18.
