Rajnath Singh to lead India delegation at SCO defence ministers' meeting in China
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will lead a high-level Indian delegation at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers' Meeting to be held at Qingdao, China from June 25 to 26, 2025, according to the official statement from the Ministry of Defence. Defence minister Rajnath Singh is expected to highlight India's continued commitment to the principles and mandate of the SCO.(PTI)
During the meeting, the Defence Ministers are expected to discuss a number of issues, including regional and international peace and security, counter-terrorism efforts and cooperation among the Ministries of Defence of SCO member states.
As per the release, the Defence Minister is expected to highlight India's continued commitment to the principles and mandate of the SCO, outline India's vision for achieving greater international peace and security, call for joint and consistent efforts to eliminate terrorism and extremism in the region, and stress on the need for greater trade, economic cooperation and connectivity within SCO.
He will also hold bilateral meetings with the Defence Ministers of some participating countries, including China and Russia, on the sidelines of the meeting.
India attaches special importance to SCO in promoting multi-lateralism, political, security, economic and people-to-people interactions in the region. SCO pursues its policy based on the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity of nations, non-interference in internal affairs, mutual respect, understanding and equality of all member states.
SCO is an inter-governmental organisation established in 2001. India became a full member in 2017 and assumed the rotating Chairmanship in 2023.
The SCO member countries include Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Belarus, besides India. China has assumed the Chair of the SCO for 2025 under the theme 'Upholding the Shanghai Spirit: SCO on the Move'.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has called for strong action against actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh and the makers of his upcoming Punjabi film Sardaar Ji 3 for featuring Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in the cast. The film body has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding that Dosanjh, along with producers Gunbir Singh Sidhu, Manmord Sidhu, and director Amar Hundal, be blacklisted from the Indian film industry. It also asked for their passports to be revoked and Indian citizenship cancelled. The move comes after the film's trailer revealed that Hania Aamir, known for her roles in Pakistani dramas, plays a part in the horror comedy. The film is set to release overseas only. FWICE issued a strong statement, saying: 'The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) expresses its strongest condemnation and absolute outrage against actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh, Gunbir Singh Sidhu, Manmord Sidhu and Director Amar Hundal who have brazenly insulted the Indian film industry and disrespected national sentiment by hiring Pakistani actress Ms. Hania Aamir for their upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3… We respectfully urge that their passports be revoked without delay, and that they be permanently barred from availing any rights, privileges, or representation associated with Indian citizenship and national identity." The film body called this casting choice 'a shameful betrayal of our country and its people," especially in the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack. They alleged that the inclusion of Aamir was in direct violation of their ban on Pakistani artists. FWICE further described Hania Aamir as a 'vocal propagandist against India," accusing her of mocking the Indian armed forces and defending acts of terrorism after Operation Sindoor. On Tuesday, FWICE also submitted appeals to the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), asking them to deny Sardaar Ji 3 a release certificate in India. India, South Africa sign pacts on submarine cooperation
India and South Africa signed two agreements in the domain of submarine cooperation during the 9th Joint Defence Committee (JDC) meeting held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Monday and Tuesday. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh led the Indian delegation to the meeting, during which he highlighted India's growing prowess in defence manufacturing and exports and reiterated India's commitment to strengthening relations with South Africa. Areas of mutual interest were discussed and the way forward for further strengthening India-South Africa relations were also identified at the meeting, a Defence Ministry statement said. 'The Defence Secretary recalled the historic relations with South Africa and expressed satisfaction on the significant progress made in bilateral defence cooperation,' it said. The South African side was headed by the acting Secretary for Defence, Dr Thobekile Gamede. The Ministry statement said the meeting began with remarks of the two co-chairs setting the agenda and providing a broad guidance to the two sub-committees that report to the JDC. The two sub-committees on Defence Policy and Military Cooperation; and Defence Acquisition, Production, Research and Development reported the outcome of the discussions to the JDC.
