'When BOUNCE Cornubia opened its doors in 2017, we held back over 200 square meters of space, reserving it for something truly special for our KZN community. Now, that vision has come to life,' said Nicolle Weir, COO of BOUNCE.

Netflix's 'KPop Demon Hunters' soundtrack tops Billboard charts
The animated film KPop Demon Hunters has taken the music world by storm with its breakout hit Golden . The song recently claimed the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This song, performed by the fictional K-pop girl group Huntr/x, blends Korean and English lyrics. It has become a symbol of this summer's musical breakthrough. The track's success marks several milestones: it is the first number one in America by a female K-pop act and the first such hit outside of BTS's influence, according to Slate . Golden has racked up nearly 32 million streams in a single week, an impressive feat that reflects the growing impact of K-pop globally. As Korean co-director Maggie Kang explained, the film cleverly integrates music into its storyline rather than using it as mere filler. The movie tracks the adventures of Huntr/x's members, who moonlight as demon hunters protecting humanity. Alongside Golden , the film's soundtrack has produced multiple hit tracks. The fictional rival boy band Saja Boys' song Your Idol also reached the top ten on the Hot 100. The album itself has climbed to number two on the Billboard 200 chart. This success forms a virtuous cycle with streaming, viewership of the movie on Netflix, and music consumption driving each other. Ejae, one of the real artists providing vocals for Huntr/x and co-writing Golden , said, 'It feels like I'm riding a wave for the first time and a massive swell just hit.' Netflix's KPop Demon Hunters has become its fourth most-watched film. There are talks underway for possible sequels, aiming to replicate the runaway success of Disney's Frozen. The song's inspiring anthem, 'We're goin' up, up, up!', carries a message of empowerment and unity that resonates universally. As Martin Talbot, CEO of the UK Official Charts, put it, 'this summer belongs to K-pop's stars.' They are increasingly challenging established norms and expanding their reach far beyond Asia. The rise of Huntr/x and Golden is proof that new, imaginative forms of pop can unite diverse audiences, even in challenging times. This is a story of musical innovation, global collaboration, and unexpected triumph born from animated imagination. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Also read: Walking the Talk pushes forward with bold plans One of the bands competing in the rock and roll event, Kismet, played a teaser event at Seadoone Mall on August 2. The band is made up of mostly Grade Nine learners. Another band set to perform, The Golden Super Hawks, provided all the sound for the teaser event and let the young rockers build excitement for the upcoming battle of the bands. Organiser and teacher at the school, Abbygail Scott, said the event follows the success of last year's concert, Melodies and Memories. This time it grew to include a battle of the bands competition for fledgling bands. She said that the line-up on the day, from 14:00 onwards, includes The Golden Super Hawks, Kith & Kin, Sweetwater Rock Band and You First. Opening for the learners' competition is Amethyst All Girl Cover Band at 11:00, and Free Your Minds will play after the competition. There will be a variety of vendors selling their crafts and wares. Those interested in attending are encouraged to bring a picnic basket. You can pre-purchase tickets on the Karri application or at the school's finance office for R40. Holy Rosary hosts concert for Teddy Bear Foundation
Daniella Govender (11) and Nicholas van Niekerk (14) were among the young performers who took centre stage at the Voices for Teddies concert held at Holy Rosary School recently. The event, part of the school's Mandela Month celebrations, aimed to raise funds for the Teddy Bear Foundation for Abused Children. Daniella, who has been preparing for months, said, 'I was a bit nervous to perform but also excited because I know it's for a good cause. It feels good knowing it's all going towards charity.' ALSO READ: Holy Rosary School hosts powerful concert to support abused children She believes it is important for young people to get involved in community outreach and charity events, as it helps others their age who are in need. Daniella performed Vivaldi's Concerto in A Minor (First Movement), a piece she has been perfecting over the past eight months. 'I practised for about two hours a day from December through to August,' she explained. 'I hope the audience feels it was a great performance and that they spent their money well.' For Daniella, music is more than just notes and rhythms. 'It helps me express my emotions. Whatever I'm feeling, I put into my music.' Fourteen-year-old Nicholas van Niekerk, a Grade Eight learner at St Benedict's College, brought powerful energy to the stage with his drum performance during a band rendition of Don't Stop Me Now by Queen. ALSO READ: Faith and music unite gospel lovers at Emperors Palace concert 'I love playing drums because it lets me express myself in ways other instruments don't,' said Nicholas. 'There's also a sense of brotherhood when you play in a band. You challenge each other, try out new things and have fun together.' Nicholas was proud to be part of a concert that supported a greater cause. 'I just wanted to help the less fortunate. Everyone gets a slice of cake in life, but some people get smaller slices, and they deserve more. 'Sometimes you've got to step in and help, because life limits some people in ways they don't deserve,' he said.
