Snack company unveils major update to popular nut bars: 'Fundamentally reimagining'

Yahoo13-06-2025
Kind Snacks, known for its popular nut bars, has launched a new curbside recyclable paper wrapper to replace its old plastic packaging, Packaging World recently reported.
According to the Kind Snack website, this new sustainable paper packaging can be found on the brand's Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt single bars in select Whole Food Markets in Arizona, Southern California, Connecticut, Louisiana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, and Texas. This release comes as a six-month campaign, running from May to October.
Kind Snacks' test campaign allows the brand to understand more about executing a recyclable paper program at scale, creating a "kinder choice on the shelf and at the bin," reads the Kind Snack website. This pilot also helps the brand gauge consumer feedback on how to improve paper packaging iterations, designed by Kind's technical packaging partner, Printpack, going forward.
Consumers can now throw the nut bar's paper wrappers directly into the recycling bin instead of the trash. In the past, paper coated with food or grease was not accepted for recycling. Kind Snacks assures, however, that these paper snack wrappers can be recycled curbside, with all other household paper items.
The brand's new sustainable packaging helps reduce the global use of plastic, which is made using dirty fossil fuels that release harmful planet-warming gases into the atmosphere. Plastic also deteriorates into harmful microplastics that have serious consequences on human health. Cutting back on plastic use can protect human health while reducing the amount of harmful gas pollution created by burning fossil fuels in plastic production.
Kind has been a subsidiary of Mars since 2020, and it remains to be seen if these practices could rub off on the parent company. Either way, leading brands in various industries are finding ways to cut back on plastic use.
A global packaging brand, Smurfit Westrock, recently launched an all-paper stretch wrap to replace polyethylene stretch wrap used on shipping pallets. Target recently launched the Frugal Bottle — a line of wine packaged in recycled paperboard and a food-grade pouch.
Speaking on Kind Snacks' new paper packaging, per Packaging World, Sandra Lewis, principal packaging adviser at Whole Foods Markets, said: "They're fundamentally reimagining how snack foods can be packaged."
"We're proud to continue to lead the industry with bold, forward-thinking and innovative solutions, not just for our packaging, but across our entire product portfolio," said Osher Hoberman, chief marketing officer of Kind North America, per Packaging World.

Trader Joe's New Deli Sandwich Chips Are A Must-Try

Unfortunately for my bank account, the Snack Masters™ at Trader Joe's have done it again, and this time, they're tackling the chip aisle. In case you're not the kind of person who religiously follows every Trader Joe's account in existence (it's me; I'm that kind of person), then you might not know that TJ's has released some fan favorite chips over the past couple of years. There are the Carolina Gold Style BBQ Chips that have now gained a cult following. One redditor on the r/TraderJoes subreddit even deemed them "the greatest achievement of human culture in the 21st century." Another redditor described the flavor of these as "honey mustard with a kick." If you've never had Carolina BBQ, it's more focused on vinegar and mustard-y flavors than other styles of BBQ. Then we have the seasonal Patio Potato Chips that made a grand return after a small hiatus. According to the TJ's website, these are a combo of "Sea Salt & Vinegar, Delicious Dill, Homestyle Ketchup, and Smokin' Sweet BBQ" flavored chips. All of these chips walked so that the brand new Deli Sandwich Style Potato Chips ($2.99) could run. While the side of the bag gives a vague flavor description of "kettle cooked potato chips seasoned with flavors of the deli" (amazing, thanks!), the TJ's website explains that they have "a suite of seasonings that evoke notes of smoky ham, dilly pickle, sharp cheese, and zesty mustard." A heads up: These do contain dairy for all my vegan and/or dairy-intolerant friends out there. With that flavor combo, it's unsurprising that folks mention that they kind of taste like a Cubano (a pressed sandwich packed with sliced ham, roasted pork, melted Swiss, dill pickles, and mustard). A review by Sporked gave them an 8.5/10 and described the main flavor as "mustard seed and pickle brine." Something tells me if you're into the vinegar-y taste of the Carolina BBQ chips, you'll probably dig these. Natasha Fischer of @traderjoeslist said the flavor is similar to when you get "the works" on an Italian sub. To me, "the works" includes a heavy douse of red wine vinegar, so this checks out. If that wasn't enough to help you piece together the flavor of these, as one redditor put it, "To me, they tasted exactly like when you're served a plate with a pastrami sandwich and a big ol' pickle spear, both of which have leaked into the potato chips. Except, not soggy. Pretty good!" TL;DR: Trader Joe's knocked it out of the park again with an ~adventurous~ chip flavor, and I can't wait to see what those little snack rascals come up with next. (While we're on the subject of delis, may I suggest a bacon, egg, and cheese chip?) Have you tried the Deli Sandwich Potato Chips? Let us know what you think! The candy-maker has created 9,000 jobs over the last five years with its investments, according to a new report. The maker of popular candies and gum, including M&M's and Milky Way, is investing $6 billion in U.S. factories. The Wall Street Journal reports that $2 billion of the six will be invested in the next 18 months with a focus on scaling new businesses, including building a new factory for Nature's Bakery. Breville's new brewer comes in 4 chic new colors, and I can't decide which I love the most

It's a well-known fact that Breville makes some of the best coffee makers on the market, but while most of these are espresso machines, it's also in the business of making drip brewers. And its newest addition, the Luxe Brewer, joined Breville's premium line-up in May offering the "next generation" of one-touch filter coffee at home. And I'm pleased to reveal that while it's only been on the market for a few months, it's just been released in four new eye-catching colors. Sea Salt, Olive Tapenade, Black Truffle and Damson Blue are now available, meaning you can choose between a soft neutral shade, earthy green, deep charcoal or rich tone blue. All for the same $319.95 price at unless you opt for the thermal carafe, in which case it's $349.95. The Luxe Brewer is the follow-up to Breville's Precision Brewer with so much more to offer. A revamped interface, removable water reservoir and Auto Start feature are just some of the reasons this drip coffee maker is flying to the top of my 'to buy' list. And now, it's available in four different colors; Sea Salt, Olive Tapenade, Black Truffle or Damson Blue. And I can't decide which one I love the most. Breville is one of the many brands embracing a pop of color in the kitchen. When I discovered Breville's brass accents range recently, I was immediately obsessed. And now, it's brought those four new colors to the Luxe Brewer. It's a serious trend right now across kitchen appliances. For coffee makers, the Fellow Aiden released in Matte White and Moccamaster introduced a new calming Ocean colorway are both wonderful options. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. But, it doesn't stop at coffee, Ninja dropped a pink model of its popular Ninja Crispi air fryer, alongside Mint and Periwinkle and KitchenAid announced their color of the year, Butter Yellow. After choosing a dark matte gray for my kitchen cabinets a few years ago, I've been desperately searching for colors to add a vibrant pop to my cooking space. I toyed with a bright tile backsplash, considered some colorful chairs round the kitchen island, but I realized the answer lay in my pick of appliances. For the Luxe Brewer, I'm lured in by the Olive Tapenade or Damson Blue for their sleek and stylish looks. But, I still feel like they could be bolder. While I'm holding out hope for those Butter Yellows and Pinks to make it to the coffee world, I'll be sure to see what earthy green looks like on my kitchen moodboard.
