He said the content of the prayer recited in front of the crowd not only contained unfounded accusations against the country's leadership but was also divisive among Muslims.
'The content of the prayer is deeply concerning as it could incite extremism and radicalism among the public,' he said in a statement posted on his social media today.
He said prayer was a powerful link between man and Allah, as well as a means of seeking mercy, forgiveness, and strength to face life's trials.
As such, he urged the public to remain vigilant against any party that did not respect the status of prayer from the perspective of Islamic law and who used it narrowly for personal or group interests.
Meanwhile, the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) also voiced concern over several incidents during the assembly.
Its director-general, Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Mohamed Azam Mohamed Adil, said the institute viewed seriously the acts of reciting Qunut Nazilah targeting national leaders, spreading sodomy allegations without evidence, and displaying symbolic effigies of leaders being caned — all of which were deemed to have violated Islamic ethics and decorum.
'Prayer is a noble act of worship and should be performed with wisdom and sincerity, free from emotional influence or political interest,' he said.
He also explained that spreading sodomy allegations without four male witnesses of just character constituted the offence of 'qazaf', which is strictly forbidden in Islam, while mocking a person's dignity through symbolic insults clearly undermined the values of Malaysian decency.

97% of teacher placements done, aligning with needs
A TOTAL of 97% of newly trained teachers have been successfully placed with the cooperation of the Education Services Commission (SPP), says Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek (pic). 'Our priority is always the pupils. Every child deserves access to quality education,' she said in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, adding that the ministry remains committed to ensuring adequate teacher distribution nationwide. 'Achieving a 97% placement rate is a reflection of our strong collaboration with SPP and we will continue to ensure sufficient teacher distribution nationwide.' She added that placements are made based on actual school needs and subject demand, in line with national education priorities. Fadhlina reiterated that priority is given to candidates from Sabah, Sarawak and Orang Asli communities, especially for placements near their hometowns. 'To support rural education development, the ministry created special pathways for Sabah, Sarawak and Penan candidates starting at the Institut Pendidikan Guru Malaysia (IPGM) level, enabling them to return and serve their communities.' For the current year, Fadhlina said placements for IPGM graduates are scheduled for September, subject to the outcome of interviews conducted by SPP. 'In 2024, all 5,256 IPGM graduates from the Bachelor of Education programme received placements across the country. 'For 2025, the process will begin this September following the conclusion of interviews.' Fadhlina also said the ministry is addressing the imbalance in subject specialisation, which has led to an oversupply in certain areas and shortages in others. 'We are expanding subject clusters and refining our matching process to ensure graduates are placed according to their academic and pedagogical training,' she said. In line with these efforts, she said the ministry has introduced structured training for graduates without formal education degrees who are recruited under the Contract of Service (COS) scheme. 'These COS teachers will undergo a one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Education (DPG) at IPGM before being placed in schools.' Fadhlina added that teacher recruitment is no longer limited to IPGM or public universities. 'We are now opening opportunities to high-potential graduates from private Malaysian institutions and even foreign universities,' she said, adding that these candidates must still meet the ministry's qualification criteria. The ministry has also expanded pre-service teacher pathways to include those who completed Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM), Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) and matriculation programmes, to allow them to enrol in education training schemes. 'This ensures a broader and more inclusive talent pool to meet future demands,' she said. Fadhlina stressed that while applicants may indicate location preferences, all final placements are ultimately determined by school-level vacancies and subject requirements. 'The core of our placement process is the national education agenda. 'It is not about convenience – it is about fulfilling our duty to ensure that every classroom has a qualified teacher.'

A new course: Civil servants watching the live broadcast of the 13MP presentation by Anwar in Putrajaya. — Bernama KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will be the leading economy in South-East Asia with a high quality of life, if the targets set out in the 13th Malaysian Plan (13MP) are met. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who tabled the Plan in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, said it would prioritise three focal points – good governance, ensuring value creation in all economic sectors, and ensuring an inclusive development that raises the living standards of the people. The five-year plan, themed 'Melakar Semula Pembangunan' (Redesigning Development) will set the country's direction from next year until 2030 and includes strategies for both the young and the old. The initiatives include mandating children start pre-school at the age of five, and boosting TVET and STEM education. The mandatory retirement age of 60 will also be reviewed as Putrajaya aims to increase the participation of seniors in the labour market. Malaysia raised the retirement age to 60 in 2012 and there are proposals to raise it further to 65. Anwar said a total investment of RM611bil is required under the Plan, with RM430bil coming from Putrajaya. 'The remaining RM120bil will be from government-linked companies (GLC) and government-linked investment companies through direct domestic investments. 'Support from the private sector through the public-private-partnership will raise the remaining RM61bil,' Anwar said. Over the next five years, he said Putrajaya would channel RM227bil to the economic sector, and another RM133bil to the social sector, including RM67bil for education and RM40bil for healthcare. Anwar said RM51bil was allocated for the security sector and RM17bil for the administrative sector. 'This strategic distribution reflects the government's commitment to drive national development comprehensively,' said Anwar. In his speech, Anwar said the government has reduced new debt commitments from RM99bil in 2022 to RM92.6bil in 2023 and RM76.8bil last year. 'This achievement puts us on a solid track towards achieving the 3% fiscal deficit target by reducing new debt each year,' added Anwar. At the same time, Anwar said the foundations of the economy had to be re-examined to overcome weaknesses and address new trends. 'We need to boost economic growth by shifting to value creation in all economic sectors,' he said, adding that Malaysia cannot rely solely on the production of basic materials in the agricultural, industrial and service sectors. To ensure bumiputra companies are competitive internationally, Anwar said they will be given assistance to get listed on Bursa Malaysia. This includes organising business relay-races and providing support to bumiputra entrepreneurs with the aim of producing 10 companies worth over RM500mil. 'The Gate to Global programmes will be enhanced to increase bumiputra entrepreneurs' competitiveness at the global stage.' He added that Sabah and Sarawak bumiputra will also be strengthened by expanding business opportunities through the provision of commercial premises and access to financing, as well as entrepreneurial training and mentoring programmes. Good governance, Anwar said, is crucial to ensuring national wealth is distributed fairly and equitably. 'We will continue to strengthen integrity and accountability, improve the efficiency of public service delivery and strengthen fiscal management.' On value creation, Anwar said the main pillar would be digitalisation and advanced technologies, particularly artificial intelligence. 'Emphasis will be placed on the development of high-growth, high-value industries and high-value sectors,' he added. Anwar also said the people's living standards will be raised by intensifying efforts to help people cope with the rise in cost of living. Anwar said efforts to strengthen administration based on integrity and accountability are beginning to show results, with Malaysia jumping 11 places to 23rd in the World Competitiveness Index 2025. The 13MP will be debated for eight days in Parliament starting Monday.

New US tariff announcement expected today
PETALING JAYA: The new tariff rate imposed by the United States on Malaysian exports will be known today. US President Donald Trump, who had planned to announce the rate yesterday, will now do so today, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister had spoken on the phone with Trump at 6.50am yesterday, with the two leaders discussing various matters, including the tariffs and Asean. Anwar said they spoke frankly on the new tariff rates, in the spirit of free trade principles, as they had done after discussions led by the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry, the US Trade Representative, and the US Secretary of Commerce. 'After clarifications I provided, he decided to postpone the announcement until Friday. 'We pray the tariff rate will help and not burden our economy,' Anwar said when tabling the 13th Malaysia Plan in the Dewan Rakyat. Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, however cautioned that Malaysians must remain vigilant as consumer prices could rise if the tariff measures fall short of expectations. 'Prices of goods and other costs may rise if tariffs do not turn out as expected. 'That's why it is important to build domestic resilience. It's a strength we must develop,' added Anwar. Malaysia is seeking lower tariffs while maintaining measures that the United States deems as barriers, such as halal certification, foreign equity ownership and government procurement policies. Anwar also confirmed that Trump will attend the 47th Asean Summit in October. 'I said okay, Mr President. I will announce this in Parliament,' added Anwar. He said Trump had extended his congratulations on Malaysia's mediation in the Thailand-Cambodia conflict. 'This was due to the Asean consensus and the positive attitude of both countries, as well as the cooperation shown by the United States and China, specifically Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping,' added Anwar. Cambodia and Thailand agreed to an unconditional ceasefire following peace talks in Malaysia to end the fighting in disputed zones along their 800km border. At least 38 people have been killed in five days of clashes, with nearly 300,000 more displaced. On July 29, a special meeting, brokered by Anwar in his capacity as the current Asean Chair, was held at the Seri Perdana Complex in Putrajaya. Also in attendance were US Ambassador to Malaysia, Edgard Kagan, and Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing. The two South-East Asian neighbours have a long history of diplomatic rows over the 817km undemarcated stretch of shared border.
